Puys,
This is my first post after joining DMS. Now it seems that i had never realised what being busy meant!
There are just so many opportunities of self development here, that it is impossible to remain unaffected by the electric ambience of DMS...
The various committees in DMS give an exposure that is unparalleled, ranging from placecom, alumni contacts, sports, cultural activities, industry and media interaction to ed board.
Regular classes frm 8 to 7 five days a week, language classes of choice Japanese/french/german/spanish), visiting faculty lectures from american univs, guest lectures, rostrums, seminars, online classes for topics as varied as healthcare, live paid projects from top notch companies....phew
If this doesnt give u a kick of a perfect b-school, i dunno what will.
'DMS Rocks' is almost an anthem here and we are living it!
So, Rock On DMS
IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME !

Hi All,
My First post in PG after joining DMS. I dunno where should I start about my experiences at DMS and also what all to cover of the innumerable things that have happened here since joining.
Off late, there was a guest lecture from India's secretary at the WTO. The lecture enlightened on a range of topics from advantages of a country at WTO, the Most Favoured Nations Concept, Agricultural Subsidies, Special Products at WTO, the Davos Round of Negotiations, etc. The 2 hour talk was really enriching and we learnt a lot about the WTO from an insiders' perspective.
As part of the Rostrum Series, the Industrial Interaction Committee(IIC) organized 'IT Rostrum' and 'General Management Rostrum'. In both the rostrums, distinguished guests from Top MNCs and Indian Companies such as Google, MindTree, Satyam, Airtel, Wipro, Kotak Mahindra, etc were invited. The guests discussed a whole gamut of issues from 'Challenges and Opportunities for India in times of Financial Turmoil', 'OPen Innovation - the Way Forward?', 'Mantra for General Management in India' and other stimulating topics.
The talks gave the students a real world perspective of the situation and challenges faced by the industries.
Since all the activities at DMS at conducted by student bodies, there was a selection procedure for various committees by the seniors. A typical process would include a task followed by an interview. The interview sessions were a fun event with some of the interviews starting at 4:00am.
The new committees have formed and are now set to take on the mantle from the seniors.
So long for the time-being. Will continue posting all the updates here at DMS and looking forward to greater contribution from other DMSites

hi mates,
y is this thread dead? Keep posting guys...
Jus a revival post...
Rajan Goyal, Director of RBI spoke in a guest lecture today. We were really amazed at the insight that he offered in the functioning of RBI. Plus the facts and info that we got was awesome. For example, the bank rate went to 140 in 1998 during the South Asian crisis...phew
I would appreciate if we keep posting such instances for the good of both students and aspirants.

Definitely this thread needs more posts considering the amazing life we are having as students of DMS IIT Delhi.
So folks just a few days back we had an opportunity to meet Mr. Bill Gates. Indian Institute of Technology has many great people visiting its campus, but it’s not every day that the richest man on earth is here. He was here for the launch of Microsoft dream Spark, a Microsoft initiative to provide free software to students for academic purpose. He spoke for around 45 mins, which was followed by a 25 min session of Q&A. Let me tell u folks, he was just amazing.
To add to what Sharang has said, it was great to learn about the Monetary policy in India from a person who is at the forefront of shaping it. His lecture mainly concentrated on operating procedures, intermediate targets and objectives of RBI. He explained to us concepts like Financial Stability, market regulation and exchange rates from a practical perspective. He also delved into history and told us the events that led to the current policies. Role of RBI cant be explained more clearly than the way he did.
Another guest faculty out here is Dr. Vinay Bharatram, CEO DCM Limited and Chairman, Sriram center for Industrial relations and Human resource. Marx, Keynes, Friedman, the famous economists and their theories explained in the simplest fashion. We anxiously await his lectures.
That’s all, for now. Major exams, starting from Friday . Life sometimes gets too hectic here, but we enjoy it.

Re: Life @ DMS, IIT Delhi -
19-08-2009, 09:45 PM
The day was 2nd Feb 2006, when I first time visited IIT Delhi to present a technical paper in the well known Tech Fest TRYST 2006. I was astonished by the IITD infrastructure, magnanimity of festival, kind of students, sponsors, speakers, faculties and what not. I wished “Kaash !! I was a part of this great institute”.
The day was 14th dec 2008, when the fate of over 35000 engineers of India was going to be decided. The day was exam date of one of the most prestigious management exam, JMET 2009, conducted by most prestigious institutes of India, the IITs. I found myself sweating over the JMET 2009 question paper.
The day was 16th April 2009, the wish was completed after 3 years when I got admission in Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi MBA programme. Suddenly I found drastic changes in my lifestyle. How ?? The life @ DMS IIT Delhi did that. Again How??? Here is the answer:
1. Classes start from 8 am in the morning and continue till 4 or 5 pm. But not at all tiring, all faculty members are genius in their field. Everyone has written books and published papers in leading journals. The pedagogy adopted by faculties is thought provoking and students gain from various dimensions. The course is designed keeping in view latest industry needs and standards. It has mix of classical and modern management thinking.
2. The sports facilities and those for extra curriculars is unmatched. In fact the facilities are so enticing, you will at most times feel a dearth of time to avail them. We have clubs for most activities including a Student Activity Centre (SAC) which you will hear a lot about in case you join DMS.
3. Department is fully air-conditioned and well connected with wifi. One can often find students doing assignments, discussing cases, reading books or newspapers in the department after classes are over.
4. There are 9 boys hostels and 2 girls hostels, although course is not compulsory residential but each student takes hostel and thats the MBA way, learning from peers late at night. There is mess in each hostel and class timings are scheduled such that u can go to hostels, have lunch and return comfortably. Each room in hostel is fitted with 24 hour LAN. Every hostel has TT room, Gym, Common room, library , badminton/basketball court.
5. IIT life teaches management in every walk of life for e.g. Kumaon Hostel at IIT Delhi has done a wonderful job by giving its customers (i.e. students) delightful living experience and taking care of environment. All the washbasins in the hostel are fitted with foot operated water taps. Students just need to press a well designed paddle which is fitted at strategic position at the bottom of basin. This has resulted in saving of water as students press the paddle only when they require water e.g. during brushing or during washing hands (when students are applying soap on their hands) water is not wasted at all. The result is delightful experience for students as it is more hygienic because students don’t need to touch the tap. Students don’t need to clean the tap, in case some soap is left over it. This saves time and ultimately saves water. Such small yet powerful ideas can lead to increase in operational efficiency as well as customer delight of any organization.
This is IIT way of teaching management to students.
6) There are stores inside the campus where everything for everyday consumption is available in appropriate prices. There is a Faculty Guest house which can be used to accommodate ur immediate family in case they decide to come visiting, for a very nominal charge. There is also hospital and banks (SBI and Canara) inside the campus.
7) There is Youth Cafe near hostels and you can find almost every meal from Indian to Chinese and Italian. Moreover IIT D location is too good, u can find many market places nearby.
Plenty of events are organised round the year, Confluences, Parivartan, Rendezvous, Tryst, Inter IIT sports, Inter Hostel sports and what not. We just had Mr. Tarun Tejpal at campus, delivering insights about Entrepreneurship.
9) And the final thing, PLACEMENTS. No one is afraid about placements here. The brand IIT, excellent faculty profile, knowledge and small batch size ensures everyone gets dream job. This has been proved by excellent placement record of DMS, even in recessionary time.
Well this is small glimpse of Life@DMS. I am looking forward for memorable 2 years ahead.
