Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 05-07-2008, 02:10 PM

Last Night was MidSummers 2008....And what a night it was...!! A total of 60+ performances, Dances, Singing, Acting, Mimicry, Poetry Reciting, Performances on Instruments and even PJ tellin....

The Junior batch put up a mindblowing performance....Had no idea u guys were so talented...some of the quality of the performances....MAN...U guys rocked it HARD!!!!

I have to thank everyone for the enthusiasm they put in especially even at 3 30 am when they patiently sat awaiting their turn and than put in their best efforts ........

Seniors....Rest Assured, GIM is in very safe hands if last night is anything to go by........

Freshers party coming up tom at Butter Lounge.......

@Aris....A lot of the guys in your batch are legends...Last night during Midsummers, was remembering the times when Anant Sandhu used to play and Iyer used to sing....Mukher's mimicry and guitar playing, Priyanka Thakur's dance, Nihit Bhansali walkin ard in OT at all times at night and several several others especially Chetan whose guidance in organising in really missed...U may have passed out of the college but every one of U is still a legend here and the legacy truly remains....
Hope every one of u guys make it down here for the alumni meet....And we hope that u never run out of enthusiasm in posting on PG...The same of course goes for ASPIRE as well as the other seniors who post on PG...

Cheers

Joyous revelry, a moment to rejoice,
240 students, but one common voice.
Youthful camaraderie, a glorious sight,
This, in a nutshell, was the Mid Summers Nite!:new_ukliam2:

If you're wondering just what it is that has trigerred the poetic instinct in me, u need just go back to the celebrations yesterday night. A beautifully coordinated and well attended affair that continued till 3:30 in the night (or is it morning?), the Mid Summers Nite brought together both the batches, senior and junior. The seniors provided the bonhomie and the juniors, encouraged by the charged environs, reciprocated by going FULL BLAST! Each performance was spectacular in it's own right, and with the seniors chipping in with their impromptus as well(our very own Rahul bhai, jigged in for a bhangra riot), it was fireworks, all around.

We had some breath taking performances in song and dance sequences. To add to that, the spoofs (with our very own Nitiksh as Laloo) added spice to the event. Acknowledging each of these would run into several pages, but one performance, which touched my heart the most was Sunder Anna on the violin (especially the piece on Maa from Taare Zameen Par).

For me, it turned out to be a specially memorable event, when I serenaded and then, balldanced with my wife to a romantic number belted out by my colleagues (Janki and Reuben). The rousing applause that my wife and I received is one memory that we will cherish all our lives. Thank you, Dear Seniors and all my buddies at GIM............

(A passing thought......if this is what happened in the closed confines of a simple hall at GIM, what would one expect at the Club party at Butter Lounge on Sunday?)

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 06-07-2008, 11:20 AM

hi guys,

How can u live and most importantly EAT when Casa is closed???

heard about allan d'souza becoming the director....he used to teach adman before Parulekar joined....It seems to be a good thing that happened to GIM...he should be bringing all his MICA experieces to GIM....

MSN is a special feature in GIM....juniors have always been traditionally calling it "ragging"...but it is not....u get closer to the other batchmates...both within and with the seniors....

MBA is a journey.....compare it with a train journey.....it has many stations which in GIM can be termed as events like MSN, Razzmatazz parties, Musica, Diwali, Holi, Placements etc. U spend each of them twice....once as juniors and finally as seniors....So make the most of this journey...this is like a once in a lifetime journey

And as Aris said, we are gonna land there either on the independence day or the nite before...

till then, keep rocking!!

PS: Jaane tu....rocks!!

smiles,

Tapan

Finally.. Got time to post.. GIM the most amazing thing is that after the MSN got over at 3:30 am.. People went to fidalgo as usual.. because no event in college is complete without a coffee at Fidalgo... The 5 FIS classes scheduled next day and a CONB class at 9:00 am in the morning didn't hamper the spirit of the GIMites and every one sat through the whole event...

I must say that our PGP1s put a great show.. Its amazing to see to the kind of talent our PGP1s have got.. Kudos to them...It was among the best show of talent and enthusiasm I have seen till now...

I think the total number of performances if I am not mistaken were at least 40 in number.. and thats actually huge.. I actually am amazed to think how our PGP1s would have taken time out of their schedules to prepare for the event..

Rest.. FIS classes are done.. its Party time at GIM.. Razmataaz has done a great job in getting one of the best discs in Goa for the Freshers night..

So its time to welcome our PGP1s formally in the GIM way.. But one thing for sure 2010 batch ROCKS..

@ Tapan read your blog, couldn't find time to post my comments.. But its really good

Hi All,

Finally with the efforts and initiative of Rahul and priceless contribution from our comrades this thread is rocking.

Talking of rocking....so is happening to my life here at GIM.

The other day we had Primeiro, the first event organised by Mecca -- the marketing inveterate (yet to find out the meaning of that word, its a new...I had ACED XAT vocab man!!!).

So the hopeless glutton that I am, I was savouring the mast paneer masala that the mess had whipped up that day. But soon I realised that the evnt was scheduled for 9 pm and I swaggered in, with a mouthful of paneer at 9;15. But nice and hospitable Mecca Core committee assigned me a group and the event began. The first round involved guessing a tagline through a dumb charade. I guessed the tagline and answered 3 subsequent questions correctly. Suddenly we were in the lead. We messed up in the second round and eventually were tied up with a team. Finally the tie was broken when Mecca threw us a ad film and to guess te brand. We were all stumped...but our team memeber Alok exploited an inherent weakness in the question. The observant soul saw the brand that had flashed for a nanosecond in the screen and we won. We were given 600 bucks which we decided to fund a party at genes. Thanks to entire mecca committee for making sure that i am not deprived of my fix of quizzing....probably my only vice.....

but how can any post be complete without the mention of midsummers night.

I had seen similar festivals beng held in my old college Podar so I could very well relate to the situation. My PGP1 friends were worried what if they goof up....I said guys just go and have fun...if you enjoy so will the audience.

I wanted to sing but I had done that Punjabi number thingy to death in the PD sessions with seniors...after all there is a limit to which you can make a fool of yourself and get away wid it.

So we decided to put up a play. Along with 5 friends we put up a play about a GIM guy who land s up in a leaking rooms....sleps in 8 30 lectures, falls in love...is cursed by his group....his babe runs away with a BIKER and finally....he gets into trouble with the SAC!!!

People were laughing...REALLY HARD....I dunno on our content or on US!!!!

The performances were absolutely scintillating. Mugdha Lakhkar sang the Barso Re song with her voice like a metalic flute. There were dances that simply blew you away. The hotel California and Sayyoni songs were simply awesome. Sunder played the violin like a pro (wonder what he's doin in GIM!!) and then there was a raucous dance on DIL DNACE MAARE and PUNJABIYAN DI SHAAN.

Our very own Gaurav Makol (proud owner of a new Enfeild on the Campus, which has helped retain the bullet look of the morgue gate) put his abscence of a date very succintly.

"MAHAVIR JAB NAAM SUNAVE...BHOOTNEEE PISHACHINEEE NIKAT NAHI AAVE!!!!"

We stayed back tilll the last performnace was done and I retired at 4. 4 hours later I was struggling in the MS lecture with bloodshot eyes trying to make head or tail of what the prof was saying. (Passed stats with 5 grace marks in FY BCom)

1 hour of sleep..and then IT rmedial with prof Sukhtankar...

2 hours of sleep....POM with Prof Amonkar...

Again 3 hours of sleep.....

By the time I realised anything it was evening...and there came an instant threat from my stomach that if dont put in anything it will resign. So I went and had a pizza in the mess.....

then again got down to studying MLR and finished all 250 odd sections with my roomie by 3 am in the night and got up today at 12 noon....

Now the next party and an all niter is already staring me in the face....

A senior very patronisingly told us that do not worry..even if you get so high that you can even get up..we will put you in the bus and bring you back.....No one will be left behind!!!! I am nothing if not worried!!!

I remember when good Doctor Fatima D'Sa had come to lecture us on ways to remain healthy, she said that one must not consume tobbacco or Alcohol....

The entire PGP1 erupted in such major applauese and raucous laughter as if they hadn't heard a better joke in the last decade!!! I cannot forget the expression on Dr D'Sa face...cos she knew that no amount of telling is gonna help anyway!!!

So this is how its going on. Life in fast forward. Its really satisfying to see this thread rock. We PGP1 PGites will sure try and keep past standards and iff possible in all humility...exceed them....

Till then I leave you with the words of our friend Rohit Vashisht aka Taaoo's words..

"sala pandrah din nahi hue yahan aa ke aur lagta hai 3 mahine sa yahin par hoon yaar!!!!"

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 07-07-2008, 04:47 AM

Yet another eventful day (or rather night) in Goa. Fresher's party at Butter's lounge was a scintilating experience, to say the least. Had loads of fun. Add to that the slogans of "Yes feddie yes" and "Go Rafa Go" - the epic finals of Wimbledon were but an icing on the cake, especially for Nadal fans like me,Makol,Niranjan. We hooligans went on shouting (and cheering) our favourites to such an extent that bouncers had to step in (by switching the TV off). And yes, the tradition of GIM was also carried forward, wherein the PGP1s asked out PGP2s for a date and what a time they would have had! The supply shortage on the side of the fairer sex saw more than 90 guys (including some of the best brains) claiming to be bajrang dal members (coz what cannot be cured has to be endured). Sunder won the Mr. Fresher crown (for his breathtaking performance on violin-mentioned by doctor sahib earlier) while Anushree got her Ms. Fresher crown for her dance number (proving her theory of "the best things in life come in small packages" dead right). Thereafter it was Fidalgo time and then back to the best hostel in GIM - Hill top. The music is still rocking in my ears and we have a class at 10:30 and an MLR assignment, before that, to be taken care of. So that's all for now. looking forward to more gr8 posts by jha ji.

Cheers

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 07-07-2008, 06:15 PM

Hi All..

Bhai Ashwini you have got SOME balls to go to Fidalgo after the party and then coming back an Posting despite knowing that you have a lecture at 10 30!!!

KUDOS TO OUR PRINCE OF THE HILLTOP...KILLER OF A MILLION MILLIPEDES AND OWNER OF AN INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH PEST KILLING HIT!! ASHWINI!!!!

So yesterday we had the much awaited freshers party. Even though it might sound like a "sour grapes thing" but I consciously avoided asking anyone out cos I really felt I could do without the baggage of a date...

So I started off from GIM on a rickety old bus accompanied by our very own Dr Ambuhuj and his lovely wife. Unfortunately his security officer Bouncer aka Nitiksh had taken the first bus so he had to endure my bakar bakar which ranged from asking him what happened if I ingested a chewing gum to me explaining him the dynamics of a date and how a date can get royally screwed up if you dont think on your feet!!!!

Once the bus was on the roll, I could not believe the shimmering beauty of the Panjim night. We were sitting right at the doorway and blast of cool wind gave us a feeling that was, to say the least.... unreal.....

After a 45 minute drive we reached the Disco butter Lounge near candolim. After a while I along with my quizzing partner friends hit a nearby dhaba for grub. For some strange reason I was the only guy who ordered Non veg and I pigged out and entire kadhai Chicken and many rotis.

Fed Like a hippo, we hit the dance floor at Butter Lounge and it was totally exhilirating.

Never had a realised that my quest for an MBA degree will land me up in a hepp Goa Discotheque. The feeling was very wierd.

So many good things are happening is quick succession that I am worried about when they'll go wrong. I often have this very strange feeling, a very real feeling that I am trapped in dream. A dream from which I will wake up and it'll all be gone in a wisp of smoke, this OT 8A room..my GIM ID, My fancy HP Laptop, my Mandovi ferry...I'll find myself in my bed in Mumbai, I will have to go to some office on rotten bus, get an apology of a salary and pass my days like a drab existant creature!!!

Even though I am reasonably sure its all real, I still feel that how close I might have been to losing it all...al over again. One slip in XAT, one fumble in GD PI and snap....NOTHING would have been there. So this cements my faith in god and hard work...

Coming back to the party, the crowd flitted between the dance flor and the bar outside. Drinks were reasonably priced and I downed....well....3 COKES!!!!

Then when we got tired be rested on the stone benches just outside the dance floor room and got back again. Bouncers came to us when we began singing outside the room...NON NOISE OUTSIDE!!!

After all the revelry the crowd crammed into cars and bikes and buses and we sang our way back to GIM by 4 am!!! The bus ride was simply awesome. I snuggled up on the backseat at stuck my head outta the window. I am not much of a biker, but the wind thru my hair reminded me of Doorstep travelling on Mumbai locals!!!It was anight to remember!!!

So this was the first magnificent offering of Razzmatazz and i am sure there will be many more!!!

The next morning I attended three lectures wrote and submitted an assignment and I have only now realised I have not eaten anything thru day which has gone by in a blur!!!!

Guys...I am really not bluffing when I say that I still feel I am trapped in that beautiful picture of GIM on the prospectus!!!!

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 08-07-2008, 12:52 AM

Here goes my 1st post in this thread......Since last 1 year, I have been reading wonderful experiences of all seniors on this thread and now I am here in GIM to post my own.Well,it has been 20 days since we have joined GIM but it feels like we have been here since ages.To be frank, when I was joining GIM I was quite apprehensive of whether I am making a right decision or not as I was leaving my 3 yr old well settled job, but now I when I look back I realize what a big mistake I would have made
in case I decided to go otherwise.

Well,I am enjoying every bit of my MBA Journey, the 'personality development sessions' by seniors, ferry ride to Diwar island, the scenic view of Mandovi River, cool breeze of Arabian sea from top of Dona Paula, the hospitality and helpful nature of the college staff, learned professors(my fav. being sarita Mam and Parulekar Sir) and above all my wonderful batchmates from so many diversified backgrounds and places. One gets to learn so much from them.

Time passes very fast in GIM...its already midnight as I am writing this post and I still have my marketing and OB assignments to complete.Catching a sleep of 8 hrs is a rare luxury. And then, there are group assignments to submit, project deadlines to be met...it simply pushes you to the limit. But, then there is loads and loads of fun also.On this Friday we had Midsummers night and our entire batch performed to its best(PGP1 rocks!!!)and then, yesterday we had Fresher's party in a disc called Butter Lounge where we all danced till 3 o'clock in the night and finally after having coffee in a restaurant returned back to campus at 5o'clock in the morning. And still, somehow managed to attend MLR lecture at 10:30 am next day.

On a serious note, I never thought that MBA can be so much of fun and at the same time be a great learning experience as well. And to put in words of our senior Darshika 'These 2 yrs in GIM will turn out to be best years of your lives'.Amen.
