Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 02-07-2008, 10:56 AM

Arrey Doctor Saheb,

Welcome to the thread and the Pagals family as a whole.

As you know I have done B Com...(Rendering me bekaam), and M Com (My roomie now knows this fact better than his own name as I remind him every 7 minutes or so)...I have learnt a principle called the principle of Empathy.

Empathy refers to the ability to sincerely see and feel what the other person might be experiencing. To put yourself in other persons shoes and understand his predicament. So when I put myself i your shoes, I not only have empathy....but sympathy, because whe it comes to analytical minds....the story of your room does not end with Bouncer, there is our resident accounts Guru Anish Sir also. You will not believe but often we drop into your room just for our daily fix of debate on everything ranging from Politix to governance to films to music (he he he he) to gender issues to what not.....and considering that the room itself is situated in Admin which is God Knows how many centuries old.....We are seriously considering cutting down on the heated discussions to ensure the safety of the walls!!!

Life has been a roller coaster ride as you very rightly mentioned in your Comm period speech (Yes we saw it). It is punctuated by feverish activities to periods of shameless Timepass.....one moment I am fully drenched in water singing Punjabi songs in front of the LH...Other moment i am in a crisp formal shirt making a presentation of business ethics in front of 57 people and an industry representative.....We had an amazing POM presentaion yesterday. Got the Top grade in the class...and we celebrated in Genes....and then made it back to the PLacecomm GBM in the nick of time!!!

Health has kept up till now. We have begun to gobble on the aawla that my roomie has and the resource is now depleting like world oil reserves. Very soon we will be in the market looking out to aquire some more. Locating a tree in the vicinity of GIM too is an option.

Aur main kya likhoon.....I hope you are not overburdened by ur CR duties. Arrey bhai jab MBBS niptaa diya toh mba vemba kya cheez hai...

Lekin Post karte rehna. Aur agar Bouncer aapko tang kare to batana, I have got Jayantilal to keep him under check!!!

aris bhai...

Tell you something.. one of the things.. I'm missing most is "THE BULLET" in the parking near the Jaggus.. Seniors sitting near morgue stairs.. gossiping a whole lot from the falling market to the best place to see in goa.. to the next days assignment...

But the tradition is still there.. the legacy continues.. we are following from where you people had left.. and trying to reach to your benchmarks..

About Campus.. The volley ball season and the football season is back.. Quad has finally become alive with the roars and cheers for respective teams.. The ips "CS On" "Start the server" keep on going rounds in the campus..

The "Midnight summers" has been planned for this friday and we looking forward to some scintillating performance by the Juniors..

Assignments are piling up.. and for me even weekends have become full time working days.. and the real fun begins.. so its 24X7 these days for me.. if you sum up the assignments, classes, group meetings, late night bike rides to panjim and especially Fidalgo..

The Freshers party will happen most probably on Sunday.. and it will be time to hit THE FLOOR...

But one thing is for sure, aris bhai.. we are missing you people a lot..

cheers

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 03-07-2008, 10:09 PM

Finally I have got down to writing the post I've been longing to write since many days. Yes guys,I've reached Goa Institute of Management......A Paradise in true sense. Its been an amazing experience so far for me. We landed at Karmali station in a group of 5 people(me with my 5 suitcases!!!) and the most remarkable thing that we noticed was the calmness and soothing feeling that this place has. GIM is at a place called Ribandar that is just 4 kms from Panajim, capital of Goa. The river Mandovi flows by the length of the college, thats another privilege that I never had when in mumbai(oh yes I had a canal running across the length of my society in Chembur....breeding wid mosquitoes )

We hired a cab from the karmali station to our college. As soon as we landed at the place, initially the small size of this beautiful campus was something that struck us. But now with almost 2 weeks here I have realised the advantages of a small and well-connected Campus. You have everything that you require within arms reach. There is a bank, postoffice, gym, football court, basketball court, tennis room, laundry and wat not!!. Once inside I took on the challenging task of selecting a good room for myself(though I would have preferred a room overlooking the Mandovi....dat was already selected by the senior batch). Initially I thought of taking a double seater room in OT, i.e. the boys hostel(btw OT stands for Operation Theatre....d college was previously a 350 yr old hospital built during Portugese times) but eventually selected a 3 seater room (OT 217 A)since its one of the largest rooms in the entire college.

In all there are 4 hostels at GIM viz

Operation theatre(OT)
Admin
Morgue
Ladies Hostel:2gunfire:

Most of the guys stay at OT. Initial few days at the college and I was already in love with the place. There is an island across Mandovi river called as Divar Island thats approachable through ferry from the college, and its free of cost. Also the best part is that most of the beaches are near from the college and may take anywhere between 15 mins to an hour....depending on which part of Goa u wish to go to. When we all landed at the college it was an immediate bonding as each one knew what it took to be here or not to be here and was proud of the fact. It made me happy about the conviction that I had in my decision and standing by it. There are 2 doctors, one of whom is a neurosurgeon in my batch. Also one of the highlighted facts of this year is the male female ratio, which is almost 1:1 for our batch, which I suppose must be one of the highest in the country for B-schools.!!
Lectures have started and we have some very good lecturers for marketing and law, finance is yet to be taken. Already assignments have started raining and my body clock has adjusted such that 4 hrs of sleep seems bliss. Sleeping before 4 nowadays is sleeping early!! Yesterday there was a General body meeting of the junior and senior batch where the clubs for various discipline were presented viz,
SOFIA(Finance)
MECCA(Marketing)
I3(Industry Institute Interface)
Razzmatazz(Culture Club)
Kshitij(literary Club)
Ribandar Talks
PRAYAS
TOUCHE
Hriday

In all it was an interesting session and after that it was announced that we need to ask out people from our senior batch for a date before the freshers......hmmm!! dat was like a big shock nd den this has been a tradition of GIM since years and the senior girls or guys cannot refuse. This is simply done in order to know ur seniors better. There are lots of intro sessions that go on before the freshers party or the mid-summers,which helps in getting to know ppl from ur batch as well as senior batch.
With so many days gone by I just realised that its almost 2 weeks since I am here and it feels like I have been to be here forever.
There are lots of things to do over here and so little time.....u start enjoying late nite outs, group assignments, case studies, chai at Casa De cha, Gene's and wat not.

Am a bit late in posting but must say jha sahab, nitiksh and doc have been doing a good job by keeping d thread alive.....

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 04-07-2008, 01:56 AM

must say thanks to d seniors for d awesome bucket party........whoosh!! what a party ......u have to witness it to believe the craziness. We were thinking it would be some sort of game of water splashing on each other nd wat not .....but wat awaited us was nothing short of a surprise....All kinds of lliquor in one single bucket along with coke.... .....now dats a true definition of cocktail.....d amazing thing is being a part of the party staying up late till 3:30 am ....being totally zonked out and still being able to attend the MLR classes d next day with full CP.....i believe dats how u learn how to manage time well .

Today every single person from our batch is preparing literally hard for d mid summers nite that will be happening tomorrow. Each one is trying their best to juggle through loads of assignments and still be able to take out time to practice singing, dancing, mimicry, skits and wat not. I'm sure its going to be a helluva party tommorow. To back it up we have a freshers party this sunday at one of the best discs in Goa,Butter lounge. So we are living by d slogan "STUDY HARD and party harder" nd believe me when I say study hard in bold cos if u think dat ppl in Goa only part den u should be here to look at d other side as well....watsay nitiksh and jha sahab?:new_ukliam2:

Teri Mehfil mein Kismat Aazma kar Hum bhi Ddekhenge........
Well folks this is my very first post on PagalGuy so no grudges if I don't write correctly but the matter of the fact is that I am at Goa Institute of Management.........one of those places where you get just about everything........a perfect mix I must say.........Studies,Faculty,Infrastructure and the superior location called GOA!
As my worthy friends Akshay,Nicks,Doc and Jha Saab have iterated,I'd say it umpteen times that this place has some unique things to itself like its old world charm what with the heritage building and the river by its side.......not to foeget that on first look the place looks like as if it was a hill resort destination(Believe me,at night if you stand in the Admin bloc and look at the HT,it'd remind you of a hill top resort)
As for me,I live in one of the best places........hee hee that's ADMIN my friends.......stone's throw from Mess Hall(Where we don't eat, we actually create a mess)Class Halls and the Quad too.

I thank my stars all over again that I have this opportunity to be at a place so great as this institution and meet so many interesting people from so diverse backgrounds.........

I guess gotta go..........preparing for MIDSUMMER Night.........

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 04-07-2008, 10:34 AM

Hey Bagati..
We miss the place too dude...Gim is something that is still breathing inside US!!!

unfortunately its not a vacation that will get over and we will head to goa...neither it is Internship that after 2 months we wud b guided back...

So havta get used to it...

I miss morgue stairs like nething man....Morgue was the place to be in our batch!!!!(Coz of me living inside it).....I miss everything dude...specially the causeway..the quad and fidalgo and CCD..list is endless...

As I realise this time has passed us and we have done out time therefore my posts on this thread will go down and I may just become a silent reader to relive those days..

I shall leave this one by copy pasting a few lines that were circulated in PGP 06-08 batch mail......
"bas ek bar wapas lautne ka man karta hai

Aaj har wo din jeene ko man karta hai.

kuch buri batein jo ab acchi lagti hain

kuch batein jo kal ki hi batein lagti hain.

abki baar class attend karne ka man karta hai

Dopahar ki class mein aakhein band karne ko man karta hai.

Doston ke room ki wo baatein yaad aati hai

exam ke time pe wo hasi mazak yaad aati hai,

college ke saamne wali CASA ki chaai yaad aati hai

tab ki bekar lagne wali photos chehre pe hasi laati hai.

Apni galtiyon pe logon se daant khana yaad aata hai.

Par sabki galti dekhne ka ab bhi mann karta hai.

Ek aisi subah uthne ka mann karta hai

bas ek bar wapas lautne ka man karta hai.

bas ek bar aur wapas lautne ka man karta hai."

PS- I dont know where did these lines orginate from
(some previous batches dn ours I guess) but yes!!! they
really say wot everyone of us wants to say

Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul

Hi everyone...

Finally back on pagalguy after a long break...cant thank all the seniors enough, for the guidance they provided at those tensed times...the time when we all had no clue as to what we were were plunging into...

But seriously each and every word of what the seniors told about GIM is true...it is an amazing place...here its not just about theory but practical application of it...its not just about studies but also having fun while doing it...its a place of perfect balance...even our batch is perfectly balanced...for me being a fresher its a huge learning experince interacting with ppl with work ex and at the same time there are enough freshers out here too...so that i dont feel lost!!

Just wanna end my first post as a GIM student by thanking all you seniors...i know its a repetition...but without u guys i would have not taken such a wise decision to come here...so a big thanks again!!
