Finally I have got down to writing the post I've been longing to write since many days. Yes guys,I've reached Goa Institute of Management......A Paradise in true sense. Its been an amazing experience so far for me. We landed at Karmali station in a group of 5 people(me with my 5 suitcases!!!) and the most remarkable thing that we noticed was the calmness and soothing feeling that this place has. GIM is at a place called Ribandar that is just 4 kms from Panajim, capital of Goa. The river Mandovi flows by the length of the college, thats another privilege that I never had when in mumbai(oh yes I had a canal running across the length of my society in Chembur....breeding wid mosquitoes

)
We hired a cab from the karmali station to our college. As soon as we landed at the place, initially the small size of this beautiful campus was something that struck us. But now with almost 2 weeks here I have realised the advantages of a small and well-connected Campus. You have everything that you require within arms reach. There is a bank, postoffice, gym, football court, basketball court, tennis room, laundry and wat not!!. Once inside I took on the challenging task of selecting a good room for myself(though I would have preferred a room overlooking the Mandovi....dat was already selected by the senior batch). Initially I thought of taking a double seater room in OT, i.e. the boys hostel(btw OT stands for Operation Theatre....d college was previously a 350 yr old hospital built during Portugese times) but eventually selected a 3 seater room (OT 217 A)since its one of the largest rooms in the entire college.
In all there are 4 hostels at GIM viz
Operation theatre(OT)

Most of the guys stay at OT. Initial few days at the college and I was already in love with the place. There is an island across Mandovi river called as Divar Island thats approachable through ferry from the college, and its free of cost. Also the best part is that most of the beaches are near from the college and may take anywhere between 15 mins to an hour....depending on which part of Goa u wish to go to. When we all landed at the college it was an immediate bonding as each one knew what it took to be here or not to be here and was proud of the fact. It made me happy about the conviction that I had in my decision and standing by it. There are 2 doctors, one of whom is a neurosurgeon in my batch. Also one of the highlighted facts of this year is the male female ratio, which is almost 1:1 for our batch, which I suppose must be one of the highest in the country for B-schools.!!
Lectures have started and we have some very good lecturers for marketing and law, finance is yet to be taken. Already assignments have started raining and my body clock has adjusted such that 4 hrs of sleep seems bliss. Sleeping before 4 nowadays is sleeping early!! Yesterday there was a General body meeting of the junior and senior batch where the clubs for various discipline were presented viz,
SOFIA(Finance)
MECCA(Marketing)
I3(Industry Institute Interface)
Razzmatazz(Culture Club)
Kshitij(literary Club)
Ribandar Talks
PRAYAS
TOUCHE
Hriday
In all it was an interesting session and after that it was announced that we need to ask out people from our senior batch for a date before the freshers......hmmm!! dat was like a big shock nd den this has been a tradition of GIM since years and the senior girls or guys cannot refuse. This is simply done in order to know ur seniors better. There are lots of intro sessions that go on before the freshers party or the mid-summers,which helps in getting to know ppl from ur batch as well as senior batch.
With so many days gone by I just realised that its almost 2 weeks since I am here and it feels like I have been to be here forever.
There are lots of things to do over here and so little time.....u start enjoying late nite outs, group assignments, case studies, chai at Casa De cha, Gene's and wat not.
Am a bit late in posting but must say jha sahab, nitiksh and doc have been doing a good job by keeping d thread alive.....
