Hello All,
After the highs and lows, the tensions and break downs, we have all come to embrace relief. Our Seniors proved themselves and we are all proud of them.

With their dream jobs in hand and a demanding corporate life ahead, the class of 2008 is making the most of its time in GIM.

All of them are now busy exploring the beaches of Goa. A lot of them have gone back home and the others are getting ready to do the same.

Last night we all had a great experience. Mukhur and Mallika had pulled out their six strings and were strumming songs; with all of us sitting around them singing along. The happiness and content was visible in each one of them. Nikhil was on a high and was was taking a lead in continuing the songs to their next stanzas. Debojit was unable to hold himself back and was swaying on the rhythms of old and new numbers sung in chorus.
Anant, Vaibhav, Rabbi, Varun, Dhruv, (the list goes on) ..... were all adding zest to the atmosphere. As they all went on to sing ' yeh dosti hum nahin...' there was an emotionally charged atmosphere surrounding the participants.
Although there is a lot of time still left, we are all sure of making the most of these 3 months to come.
Best of Luck PGP2's.

Ankit Khandelwal

My post from the GIM admission queries thread

Hi ...

The work on the placement report is on.. The initial draft is ready, while the detailed statistics are being worked on, like the graphs, distribution etc.Right now the student PR cell of our college is organizing a press conference where the details regarding placements are being made public.

Pls find attached the placement report, here you can find information regarding Max, Min, Average, Median salaries , as well as the number of offers etc.

We are very happy with the way the placements turned out this year ... just vindicates what we have been maintaining all along .. GIM is a special place ... GIM is the place to be ... GIM rocks ...

There is no Institute in India where you get such a combination of academics and fun ..... not to mention studying at one of the most beautiful places in India in a heritage building ...

For an Institute which never worked the BSchool rankings ... to be still regarded as an Institute of substance goes onto prove that Ethics are not a thing of the past !

I can talk nonstop for days about GIM, Infact each and every GIMian is so passionate about GIM, its an emotion which no BSchool junta can ever have ... We live and dream GIM.. We work we play ..we slog and get what we want ... We care two hoots for people who go by "rankings" or "average salaries" coz we know we could have beaten most of the other schools had we followed their method of calculating average salaries ...

let me give you guys.... the applicants I mean an Idea as to how an average salary is calculated in many Indian Bschools...

Suppose if I had 3 offers ... of 6lacs , 7 lacs and 10 lacs .... and I took the salary of 6 lacs .. logically speaking the saalry that should be considered for calculating the average salary of the whole batch should include 6 lacs of mine as we do in GIM ...
But it is not so .... it is taken as average of all 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the salary that I take is 10 then obviously 10 is taken

Now its up to you guys to take a call .. I can bet that after a few weeks when the other BSchools release their Placement reports, their "average salaries" would be higher than ours and we are least bothered .. as we know we stick by what we know is right.. those who value it will join GIM ... and for those who dont .. please delude yourself

When I was on the other side , I also used to go by the placement figures .. the Famous bschool rankings but having joined GIM ... I know what the reality is ....

The complete report with all other details will be out really soon, as the people making the report are very busy with the conferences and other activities .. I think by tommorrow the report should be out ..

PaGaLGuY.com made its first MBA hire in Aristo Bhupal from GIM

Aristo had worked as a summer intern for developing the PaGaLGuY B-school Rankings. We gave him a PPO for the kickass work. Look forward to him joining

Cheers,
For the information of everyone, Aristo had worked on two projects at PaGaLGuY, one of which was the PG community perception rankings. Some of the best biggest names in the industry had to go back empty handed, even as the placecomm tried their level best to convince companies to NOT visit the campus as the students had already accepted offers. A big gun offered product manager profile for a CTC of 8 lacs and was searching for candidates in the last few hours!!! At GIM, the students are offered nothing less than Management Trainee positions. Hence we are assured that wherever the students go, they are treated at par with the best! Many companies which were not allowed to recruit because they used to offer Executive Trainee positions to GIM graduates have started taking the students for Management Trainee profiles in big numbers!

Frankly the kind of rise in the faith in GIM brand is visible everywhere: from the number of applications to XAT cut-offs and industry interface and now in the placements.
The lowest salary, by any means one of the most important parameters stood at 5.5 Lakhs and number of offers hit a stellar 194 for the 120 students. I can assure you that these figures could have been easily better had the students sat for companies and compromised on profiles! But no, they surely were wise enough to chose profiles of their choice in the choicest of sectors and firms over higher paying jobs.

But over and above the hoopla and big numbers was the kind of camaradrie that the GIM seniors brandished throughout the process... In some emotionally charged moments, they could be seen laughing, crying with happiness, cracking jokes, frantically trying to console each other and boosting morale of everyone! It feels great to be a part of such a fantastic family.

Another fantastic job was accomplished when most company representatives (even when they were not able to recruit as many students as they wanted to) left the place with satisfaction and a smile on the face, clearly a testimony to the kind of arrangements that GIM student fraternity had made for the process. Yeah the whole process was arranged and managed by students. Its a learning experience which shall go a long way, though here the students are kinda prepared for such stuff... what with the grand events that we've organied in the past, including Samriddhi and Castalia to name a few!

However, this is just a beginning... way to go GIM, we're already going places and gladly enough.. we have time at hand!

Re: Life@GIM (Goa Institute of Management ) - 29-12-2007, 12:29 AM

Hey Rounak,
Last year's cut off was 90 percentile for GIM. Now, i cannot gurantee that this year would be the same because cut-offs change every year. Secondly, nobody in GIM is of 'extra ordinary' capability or are super humans. So my dear friend there will always be high chances of getting through if u make a sincere effort as hard work always pays off.

ALL THE BEST!!
