Desi,

You and your professor have a right to your opinions. I just think it is unfair to compare ISB with IIM on the criterion of reputation because it is still in its infancy. However, it is modelled after all the good international schools. There are a lot of schools in the US that accept very few MBA applicants without workex, including Harvard and Stanford (2%). I do not know anyother reputed school apart from the IIMs that take three-fourths of their class without work experience. I would imagine anyone to intuitively embrace the IIMs over the ISB, but remember the ISB has not yet created the name for itself. It is only been here for 6 years or so. But the way it chooses its applicants, it is set to become a favourite of most people just like the other international schools it follows in style. Just as you, I have a right to my opinion, which is that I prefer the ISB over the IIMA.

Bilated happy birthday!

Thanks for your bilated wishes... Check my earlier posts... All I am saying is if you want to blow your trumpet saying ISB rules you will have to atleast wait for a few years... thats all

I will be 20 in 2 months, so I will satisfy that criterion soon too. I did not know that age was such a big concern for so many people.

How is that Wharton and Kellogg are partners with ISB, not the IIMs. And President Bush visited the ISB, not the IIM. And the ISB grads have a higher average salary. HOW?

well well our friend from videsh is getting very worked up i can see....not here2 compare but hust ans a few things...

just cos IIMs take freshers they r not worth it....suprising since just a yr back the ISB director said that wanna start recruiting freshers cos that will bring diversity 2 the class and cos of their min work ex criteria they aint attracting the best minds in india.......and FYI IIMs dont have 3/4th freshers ...its a far more balanced mixed....freshers r taken in india cos thats wht the industry demands...remember bschools supply wht the industry wants...each country has its own way of working...

now for the pt that ISB has many criterais while IIMs have only CAT...im fed up of ppl who have no idea wht so ever abt the admission process making such comments....Cat is as imp a criteria as gmat is...its a cutoff and a good score doesnt guarantee u a place...the persons whole profile is looked in2..thats why ull have 98% in A and 100% not getting in............... most of the top schools and even ISB have a min GMAT score ......and well abt ISB ( im as informed abt this as ur abt IIMs) its said that they dont turn down a person who has a score above 750 in Gmat.....

1 of the most imp considerations abt ISB is ths cost factor ...its way2 high and the biggest road block....

DG made a statement that most ISB ppl r those who havent got in2 IIM's and u come out all gun blazing agsnt it...well how many ISB gards do u know? i do know quiet a few and they all have tried their hand at CAT and as per them most of their batchmates have also....those few who havnet r the 1's who have decided rather late in their life 2 do an MBA and dont wanna invest 2 yrs in2 it..........

pls do a more complete research b4 u start making statements...

and our country needs both the IIMs and ISB 2 do well and make a mark for themselves in the world arena....both have their own unique style and thats good cos it gives all types of students an opportunity2 choose the college which suits them the most....let both flourish and hope the govt doesnt ruin neither( the govt can very well push in reservations in ISB also)...

Re: Why ISB will beat IIMs - 06-05-2006, 05:34 AM

oh...
I generally donot reply to many post ..but just want my friend serial killer to answer me.
how come u think that IIMA does reject students with 100% percentile scores and ISB takes in anybody with GMAT score of above 750.?

The MBA schools provide only that much that the market demands....If the market prefer freshers then schools provide freshers...perhaps IIMA PGPX students never thought that Indian market needed only freshers. dude imitation is the best form of flattery. IIM PGPX makes us feel much better.

ISB is costly... But do we need subsidised education for people aspiring to settle outside India (morality??)..and let me tell u...every student of ISB is offered eduation loans without any hassles...so how shud fees make a big differnece.
Yes sir most students at ISB have tried their hand at CAT before comming to ISB...OK the avg work ex of class of 2006 is ~ 5 years, so when many of my friends had passed out of college, ISB was just not their or only 1 yr old. Do u mean to say they shud never have tried their hand at CAT (which was the only entrance route for MBA in india at that time)...get some logic going boss...
the only point to which I agree is that india needs IIMs and ISB.
I respect that U have got into a very good institue...but think before u write.

The average work-ex in ISB is far more than that of IIMs. Still the average salary is just 2 lacs more. I guess u need to compare the average salary of ISB with avg salary of people who got lateral placements in IIMs.It would be a better indicator.
