One of the best posts I've seen in some time!

Re: Why ISB will beat IIMs - 06-11-2007, 07:26 PM

For every Dhirubhai Ambani there are a 1000 other folks with the "risk taking" ability whose businesses have been wiped out within 2 years. I seriously am sick of seeing the same old "You dont need an MBA to make money" gyan. That is something every B-skool student knows and appreciates

The reason *most* people go to a B-skool in India is to make themselves more employable - no two ways about it.

Now that we have this straight, the simple question is "Which B-skool will make me more employable?". Thats why B-skool comparisons creep in and we have the B vs C and the I vs K debates all around the year. It is very easy to wash away all this under the garb of "In the end it doesnt really matter" but hell to every single aspirant out there it does matter, matters equally to B-skoolers who will defend their instis, thats part of the game (as long as no misleading info is given out).

All other points in vipul's post are bang on.

The whole comparision is bogus.
IIMs ( at least A,C and L) have addressed the need for management education for experienced candidated. Look at the selected candidates( yours truly included) profiles and "measurable indexes" like GMAT. I bet they are the BEST IN THE WORLD. Show me a BSchool running a program with an average GMAT of 731... ya ya ya - Indians tend to get higher GMAT scores.Whats the average at ISB?
How many ISB students will trade their seats for seats in IIMA/B/C/L?
How many IIMA/B/C/L students will trade their seats for seats in ISB?

Only PGPX/PGPEX/IIMC one year course can be compared to ISB course,if you will. And by no parameters are IIMs behind ISB. Check out the placement stats of PGPX1 and PGPEX1( not yet out in public domain).

ISB has its merits and is doing good too - all the best to them. We need more ISBs and IIMs.
However there can be no pact between Lion and Men.

Re: Why ISB will beat IIMs - 07-12-2007, 04:42 PM

i just fail to understand how can ISB be better than iim ????
1)look at the fees in iim which is just 4 lacs vs ISB 18 lacs which many many many exceptionally people cant give so they will only go to a IIM
2) IIM have people mainly below 25yr vs isb with arnd 28+ but still isb cant place its people at better profiles than iim

its as simple as that..
only global faculty is not all that matters. indian professors are not bad at all trust me

The FT ranking conveniently excludes all schools that do not have a minimum work experience requirement - thus all IIMs are excluded. ISB has a minimum work experience requirement and is included in the FT but ISB ignores its own requirement to take freshers to fill its leftover seats. ISB seems to have counted its foreign guest faculty, high GMAT average score and only the few foreign offers that naturally means a higher average to make it up the ranks.

hey u dont hv to groan at me !!
m just an aspirant ok and those views are no way directed at you!!
also yr information is factually incorrect........ie to fit yr reasoning u fabricated the facts.
now i'm Mr Nobody as yet now but even then i can say that its a very bad idea to put forward yr set of arguments.

Re: Why ISB will beat IIMs - 04-06-2008, 11:22 PM

Mr Eric Segal - as an aspirant you need to check out what your ISB does inside. Here are some facts from inside ISB. Let some ISB ppl deny it!

1) ISB clearly states that work experience is a requirement to apply to ISB.
2) ISB does take freshers with or without high GMAT scores.
3) These freshers have a really tough time getting jobs on campus.
4) ISB qualified for the FT ranking only because work experience is a must.
5) The FT ranking requires your salary increase pre-MBA to post-MBA. No experience candidates in ISB if they get a job show infinity salary increase
6) All the IIMs did not qualify for FT ranking even though about two thirds have more than two years experience in the IIMs - FT said that it was because IIMs do not state work experience as a requirement - the formula will not work.
7) ISB used only its few foreign placements with dollar salary for calculation.
FT has been taken for a ride - Eric Segal is taken for a ride too!

I am not a fool to get into this ISB ride!!

hmmm.....the iim,isb debate looks set to go on for quite a while. but the attitude should never be of comparison between the two. these are two of india's finest b-schools making the nation proud. in such a scenario, instead of competing, the attitude should be one of complimenting each other.

ppl enough of deciding which one is better.rather aim at showing that INDIAN B-SCHOOLS are a force to be reckoned with....mess with one and you mess with the team!!!
