hey saloni
well do u really think that a person from biotechnology background shud go for MBA biotech only???
i think the biotech n pharma industry needs more of MBA's from finance n marketing n international business rather than MBA biotech...
moreover if u r from a top 30 MBA institutes of india...gettin into any pharma or biotech company is easier than havin a MBA biotehc from a not so good coll's(which infact r not good even at the normal MBA courses)
what ya say????
nway i hav got my first MBA call from NIRMA-ahmedabad....waitin for more on the way

Cool Re: Future Of Mba Biotechnology Aspirants - 19-03-2006, 09:40 AM

hey.i am a student of bsc chem and just got into siib.i had considered 2 options earlier mba(biotech) from pumba and mba(pharma) from nmims.i understand u want to stay within your field and still do an mba(like i wanted to).But then i realised that i was limiting myself in a field that is actually known for its ability to expand your boundaries.mba biotech from pumba and mba(pharm) from nmims get you good placements no doubt but you will ALways be in competition from other mba grads who have no science backgrnd whtsoever. infact domino's(believe it or not it has one of the largest research centres in da country) has managers for their research center without any science backgrnd.a better option would be to do an mba wid specialisation in marketing or hr (finance is not really valued in the field u are interested in) along with a clinical research programme from icri(these programmes are recognised and offrd parttime every where) and then aim for a pharma company.hope i helped you out.cya.tc

icri offers one yr part time course(sunday only for pple who work and are pursuing studies) which can also be taken full time in 6 months.they claim to have 100% placements with 20000 as starting salary which might well be true cos there r hardly nebody in dis field in india.since this is a mba thread i'd also like to add tht icri also offers 2 yr fulltime diploma in clinical research along with an mba but needless to say it isnt worth money or time.by the way maddy if ur frnd is in mumbai itll be better to go for the clinical research course from bombay school of pharmacy.

Re: Future Of Mba Biotechnology Aspirants - 19-03-2006, 12:16 PM

hey i am doing btech biotechnology. now in final semister.
i want to pursue mba too. i was in same dillemma as u people. some of my friends and some experianced souls suggested me to do mba biotech.
but i beleive an mba from a reputed institute would give u better oppurtuniy to work for top pharma and biotech companies.
many pharma giants such as reddys, ranbaxy, wockhardt etc have mbas with marketing,hr and finance background.
in todays competitive market it is quality of your mba degree that matters.
so if your interested in manegerial career( be it any company or any field)
pursue any mba from top institute.
