Stanford Business School News Letter

Headlines - New Research Center Named for Srinivasan - Stanford GSB

STANFORD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS — India’s Great Lakes Institute of Management has created the Kotler-Srinivasan Centre for Research in Marketing to develop knowledge in marketing, focusing on research in India and its global role. The center is named for Professor Philip Kotler, S. C. Johnson & Son Distinguished Professor of International Marketing of the Kellogg School of Management, and V. Seenu Srinivasan, the Adams Distinguished Professor of Management at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Great Lakes Institute, located in Chennai (formerly Madras) in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, announced creation of the new center in July 2006.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Bala Balachandran, founder and honorary dean of the school, said, "Given the natural core competencies and expertise on hand, we at Great Lakes have decided to make marketing our focus.” The research center will focus on marketing and sales research in India and will help transfer global concepts to local needs. Professor Srinivasan will act

Hello,
I'm taking the CAT and other exams this year for the 3rd time, and honestly, i have givn up hope. i dnt thnk i wl get into n e gr8 b-skool like IIMs.

Wot is the cutoff for Great Lakes?.

wot is the placement scene like? this year must be really gud with the booming economy. and how were lateral placements last year? Could you give me names of any big names who hv confirmed this year?

i hv 4 yrs of work-ex. so wot chances do i hv? also, wot about freshers. my sis is also taking the CAT this year, so how wud u rate the placement scene for a fresher?

I am shwetha and have 2.5 years of ex in SATYAM. would like to know if the cutoffs of GMAT and CAT be different for people with more no of work ex or would it remain the same for everyone. I have taken my GMAT and am very keen on knowing the prioriyt being given to GMAT score and work ex.

hi i understand ur concerns... as mentionned previously we at this stage cannot comment on the cu-offs as admission wud be on a relative basis... we are looking at a batch composition of >= 2yrs of work ex and very less(unless very very exceptional fresher).. pls browse thru Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai and revert with specific queries ...

Hi Swetha,
the cut-off wud most likely remain same given the fact that we are looking at a batch composition of 2yrs work x and more...

Juntaaa and Juntiiii,
Hope u guys had a rocking cat....
The great news is that Great Lakes is having the annual festival L'Attitude 13 05 early Jan... and again a stricterrrr deadline - we have only 45 days to prepare for it... we have some litll big plans for it... the first of it was putting the website for it... the flash presentation would be up and running on the website by 20th Nov(dats the deadline v are working with... !) and as usual Great Lakers are waking nights for this as well in addition to the normal presentations and case studies...... a lot of things wud happen... we gonna rock..... just keeping u ppl updated... its really hotting up... this is just another challenge in another form....

hi guys,

m havin 3 yrs exp in HR field , m lookin forward to apply this year , jus got a query about specialisation i.e whether HR specialisation is being offered or not , if yes then how many ppl have opted for , whts the placement scenario looks like. also is ther single or dual specialisation.

guys kindly help me out as im plng to apply as early as possible

hr is offered as a spl.... but there is not many ppl here who took it up... ppl who have hr experience uptill 8 yrs are there... i cn tell u the placement scenario only after our placements are over.... we have single specialization(1 major + 1 minor)... pls download the brochure and hav a look at it

Can you pls let me know how much weightage is given to the analytical writing in the GMAT during the evaluation and shortlisting phase.
