had taken CAT last year n got a 90percentile. is it prudent to b apping this year with the same score.or..do i take the CAT again this year.(this would again put my appl in the second cycle).plus will things get bad if i resign my job rit now(32months wrkex) is it like they prefer ppl who are working currently as that shows that they are balanced bw their work n their ultimate goal n stuff..

Hey Krithi,

90 percentile is a decent score. but if you can take CAT this year its good and this year its going to be one cycle of the inreviews. You have good experience and it doesn't matter that u quit your job n then start preparing.

I think it doesnt matter in the interview about the stuff you are talking. If you are working currently or had worked earlier, its the same thing

Why you want to quit your job. You are getting good experience.

If by any chance, you are not able to clear then u have your job in hand.think about it. My best wishes are with u.

Thanks
Nitin Prabhakar

I second Nitin on that....
just an add on: 90 pile was a pretty decent score, but we dunno if it is enough to be in. As mentionned earlier in the thread, we wud be normalizing ur scores against the highest score, decide a cut-off and then give the calls.... so we dunno untill the scores are with us.

Krithi,

My advice as an alum of Great Lakes will be to take CAT again and try to score as high as possible. Also, if you can take the risk of leaving the job for CAT prep, it's well and good. Just make sure that if you do not get through will you able to secure another job. If you are in IT industry there is every chance that you will be able to secure job again, given, companies are recruiting in thousands and market scene is that it will be the scene for at least a couple of years. My gut feeling is that 90 percentile may not be enough this year, that also, a year old. This is based on seeing the interview boards of Great Lakes closely last year. A decent score is always a plus. Hope it helps.

Hi Viguu,

There is nothing like dual specialization in Great Lakes. There are 20 courses that you need to do. You are allowed to take one major (11 courses) and one minor (5 courses) and rest of the courses (4) you can take depending on your interest. For example you can take operations as major and finance as minor and then take other courses from marketing or HR.

Thanks
Nitin Prabhakar

Re: Great Lakes Admission Queries - 08-08-2006, 12:43 PM

Just to clarify me once again. We have 20 courses.
Say, I want to take finance as major, then i have to take 11 course (out of 20) and 4 other minor subject (remaining 9 from 20) .

Suppose if I want to take HR as major then i have to take another 11 course (for major) and 4 other minor subject.

In total, 30 courses (15+15) needs to be completed if dual specialization is required.

PL. correct me if my understanding is not correct.

Rgds,
Viguu
