Hi!!

Chinese is a compulsary credit course for all students. Exp. does not matter.

I was in the same batch with Kapil. Topic was, “The Ethical entrepreneur is a Myth”. All I can say about the GD is that it was a pretty mature discussion and every one got a chance to speak and others listened quietly.
My advice for GD is try not to make it a fish market, try to listen to others point and then discuss on those points rather than putting ur point about the topic. It is more of a Discussion that a debate.

Interview

Three fellows, and a Great Lake senior (mainly an observer, didn’t ask any question) . Lets mark the three persons as P1, P2 and P3 (with P1 on left, P2 center and P3 right)

At this moment I would like to put my profile as the interviewers mainly concentrated on this

Work Exp: 3 years with Larsen & Toubro manufacturing department
M.Tech. : in Mechanical from IIT Kanpur
B.E. : Mechanical

So now the interview
P3 : Tell me about yourself
Me : Told them about my association with L&T, M.Tech from IIT Kanpur. My hobbies, interests

P1 : why do u want to do MBA after doing M.Tech.
Me: gave them reasons about engineering taking a backseat after some years in industry and more of management in need ( be it of resources and manpower)

P2: But I don’t think all of the top guys in L&T are MBA ?
Me: I agree, but they have spent nearly 30 years in company and I am not looking for that slow growth

P2 : would u go back to L&T after MBA ?
Me: yes sir

P2 : what will be your designation after joining
Me: Manager.

P2 : don’t u feel u do MbA and then u r promoted above ur peers above not MBA’s and are slogging in L&T as engineer
Me: I will not be getting in project execution and will be taking care of implementation of operations management in company. It is a separate depart.

P2: What do u understand by management ?
Me : gave them some management fundas ….. management of resources in hand for optimum utilization and blah blah blah…. Gave them some gyan over CRM, etc ….

P2: U have made a good decision by doing M.Tech. from a good institute and them joining a tech. Firm but now u r saying that technology takes a back seat . explain ?
Me : gave them some gyan about L&T model, L&T is not into designing but manufacturing. We take designs from process licensors and then do the fabrication as per customer needs. And some more ……..

P2 : what is the turnover of L&T?
Me: gave data….

P2 : what is the profit of L&T?
Me: gave data….


P2 : why the percentage of profit to turnover is less?
Me: gave them some reasons abt poor resource allocation, utilization, projects overshooting deadlines, paying LD’s and some more. they seemed to by satisfied.

P1 : (he opened my essays and referred to the question abt a person whom u admire the most. I have written abt a DGM from L&T with whom I had worked in one project). U have written about one Mr. Bipin, that he is a true leader , a visionary blah blah ,…….. going by what u have written he may even teach MBA’s. I don’t think he is a MBA. So why do u want to do MBA ….. u can also learn on job .?
Me: learning on job is very slow and there is only one Bipin kumar in my department of 120 guys.

P3 : what do u want as ur specialization
Me: Operation as major and finance as minor

P2 : What is finance Management
Me: gave them some funda ….

P2 : Consider that u r placed in finance department of L&T and u r asked to raise 1000 crores, how will u do it
Me: ( I stumbled on this answer) I blabbered a bit, some thing abt FDI, ECB’s, FCCB’s ….

P2 : No No, u just have to raise 1000 crores, how will u do it
Me: Sir, for learning these things only I want to do my MBA. (This answer closed that question then and there)….

P2 : considering that u r working in Bombay in a good job, why r u not considering doing part time MBA thereby continuing ur job also and MBA also.
Me: I don’t want to do MBA just for the sake of putting tag of MBA against my name, I want to have proper learning. So I am not interested in part time MBA.

P2 : OK. If u r getting calls from other good colleges like Spjain, JBIM, etc, would u join GLIM. I know u will say GLIM only, but why ?
Me: as u have said , I will join GLIM. The unique advantage it offers me is that the course is completing in 1 year and I can get back to the industry without loosing much time.

P2 : Ok, lets say if u r getting call from IIMA, then what will u do
Me: I will join IIMA. It is altogether a different league.

P2 : don’t u think coming to chennai will be a huge problem as now u r well settled in Bombay ?
Me: gave them some fundas……..

P2 : OK…… that’s it from our side….. if u want to ask anything from us , u r most welcome ?????
Me: ( I thought a bit)…. Sir, what r the odds against my selection ……..

Every one had a bit of laugh at this moment…………

P2 : well, we definitely like u, but I can’t commit anything right now as there r others also waiting to be interviewed.
Me: Thank you sir.

Then after formal hand shaking ceremony I left the room …… I had mixed feeling about the interview as every one was having the same cool interview ……..

PS: please keep one thing in mind for interviews, never try to bluff the interviewers, they r masters, they can make out when u r bluffing and when u r not ……. Try to be true to be urself ……..u r not expected to know everything else what would have been the need to go for MBA, If u don’t know anything just say it, there is nothing wrong in not knowing anything ….

MY friend has got 97.25 percentile in CAT. Is that enough for him?
I got just 83.23 percentile in CAT. I am planning to give GET. Please post something abt this exam interms of no. of questions, types of questions etc.

thanx, by the way i have not taken GET, my CAT score was 89.8 and i applied with that only. ur friends score is good and he should be +ve abt getting a call ..... abt u, i can't say nethg, but remember it is not the only criteria, it depends on ur overall profile, ur essays and ur work exp. .....
u can give the option for GET also and if u can get a call u can give it ... based on wat i read in previous post , GET seems to be bit cool as compared to CAT ......

I am writing GET and going to submit the form 2morrow one last question do i have to submit resume ,transcript means photocopy of degree certificates and SOP should also be in the college letter pad with my name and admission number at the top right corner.

Till what time does the institute is open so that I can submit my form.

The college is open between 9 30 and 5 30.
