hi Pinnochio
I am a bit late to respond... but as far as i understood from ur query.. u were talking of recommenders and referees... In my case, both my recommenders and referees were same... however i feel u cn give separate also, iff no restriction is mentionned in the form...

Hi Snrs

Please apprise us about the exchange programs that Great Lakes has!!

What i came to know during the information session is that we have an option of going to Stuart B School after completing one year in Great Lakes and study there for six months to get a Degree from Stuart B school. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Besides this are there any more similar programs with Nanyang or Yale or ne other university?

Thanks

Hi Prasanth

Thanks for the updates.

1.It will be really nice if you can also mention the amount (investment) reqd for the same, i.e studying for another 6 months in Stuart B School.

2. Is It really worth going to this place and spending another 6 months there; coz as per Financial Times Rating Staurt B School is rated as 134 amongst the top B Schools worldwide, where as our prestigious IIMs starts coming after 170, does that by any chance mean that the Certification which we would get would have more worth if we spend another 6 months abroad.

3. During the Information Session we were told that Great Lakes is coming up with an alliance with some Chinese University. Whats the latest updates on the same.

4. Besides increasing the brand value of the institution does alliances with colleges like Nanyang and Yale add any value to Great Lakes and its students.

Thanks;
Manik

Hi manik,
if i am not wrong amt required would be between 10-15 lakhs

2nd question i will not be able to comment..too controversial..my advice is IIms are ranked low because the profs here do little research in comparison with US univs , moreover IIm intake is predominantly freshers and its not a MBA degree. hence lower ranking. but logically it should rank among the highest. IIM is an IIM. all said and done. if u r comparing any foreign insti with IIM, look pref for the top 30. and moreover the visa problems are huge. so getting a job post MBA in US is real difficult. so think abt it!!!

3rd question - no updates will let you know in case we get to know..

4th - NO COMMENTS

hope this was useful

regards,
Prashanth

I would be happy if any one could get to me asap..

Hi

@ Prashanth

Thanks for answering the queries..even i believe the same about IIM's but was generally inquisitive to know why our very own prestigious colleges rank so low as compared to Schools Abroad.

@ aseem_chandra

Your acads and work ex should help you improve your chances to making it to final list of Great Lakes. Besides the admission depends on various factors other than CAT score and Acads like Group Discussion, PI,References,Essays ... I believe if yu perfom well in these especially Interview you stand a good chance.

@ knightmare

1. Letters of Recommendation can be from PL and TL. But it will be nice if you can get one from PL and other from some one else with whom you have been professionally involved as that gives a broader picture.

2. As said about aseem_chandra; your acads and work ex would surely improve your chances but final conversion would depend on how you perform in other areas of evaluation.

All the very Best

About the alliance with Stuart school... ya the MBA offered by them can be availed within 6 months of joining over there, but ideally one would like to take the course for atleast 9 months; 9 months being the least time one gotta stay there to get to work over there?!
Its a very decent offer considering the fact that one gets hold of 2 degrees within 2 years... The location of stuart school is also interesting and so are the job prospects if you land up in chicago. But trust me Great lakes will be enough atleast for the time being! And this contract with Stuart school is valid for a great laker atleast till the known future . You can exercise that option whenever you want in the future i mean
The alliance with yale and Nanyang... well this year we almost had a tie-up for an exchange program with Nanyang so you never know what great lakes has to offer coming year !!! And about Yale... the research tie-up i am sure helps us get yale profs to teach here at great lakes. A couple of them who have already taken classes are by far the best one could get anywhere under the sun(of the solar system).
I don't have any updates as far as the alliance with a chinese university is concerned.
As far as b-school ranking goes.... I have my doubts and the rankings are highly subjective.. ! Don't we see some colleges in top 10 that would make poor einstein turn in his grave ( would drucker's example be more relevant here)?
