Great Lakes Admission Queries

Hey prospective and current students

Few of my queries and concern, though much of it has been discussed in the thread. But trying to add my ideas to it.

1. The idea of laptop -- Most of the student intake in Great lakes has got a good work experience and many candidates already have a laptop (like me). So I request the current students to make a cautious effort here to reason with the adcom to amend the rule. Something like : A person has to show up the laptop on the first day of class..blah blah ..otherwise a fine of blah blah rupees..can be a good way to tackle this issue..

2. The deposit fee by 7th april :

I agree that since great lakes starts the batch on 21st april, but there are few things which can be done to improvise here:

The payment can be made thru installements.
The date can be at least extended by few days (3 to 4 days) The reason being that, guys are waiting for IIM results. And to be frank I won't join great lakes over IIM A, B, C. It may sound harsh, but I hope all wud agree. Its like you denying Mckinsey and Co. which is interested for recruitments to great lakes, but only if they don't get better canidates in other top B-schools in India. But great lakes because of some stringent rules, simply denies the consulting giant and instead invites some other WAITLISTED XYZ consulting stuff...I hope u get my point.. So if such a rule is not amended a bit, great lakes would really loose some good candidates.

The students are ready to forgo 50K fee by 22 nd march makes sense. That means such students are really serious about the OPTION of great lakes. And if they don't get into IIMs (or watever they waiting for) they are sure to join glakes. And by requesting an extend we only mean a small extend.

Plz take these issues as some good case studies..I am sure you guys must have had lots of such and this is your test for a real one..hope the current batch together with GLIM authorities wud come up with a good way out.

I am passionate about great lakes because of certain things.Its student driven. Students play important role in college functioning. And the student-administration-faculty forms a cohesive and co-operative uint.
And this is wat is expected in the above mentioned issues to arrive at a solution.

@prerit ... defaming this institution ??? rofl... y shud i do that.. they do that to themselves. regarding the insider's info... that u must ask the insider.. why even he/she was dejected by the state of affairs in his/her institution. i select a b-school which doesnt reserve seats like 50-60% for big shots. somewhere you dont hush up things and swipe them under the carpet. somewhere its worth to stick with those who only come via merit [i'm not sayin high scores alone... but sans the 'powerful recos'-only candidates]. To tell the truth. I aint angry dude. I'm kindof relieved that I really didnt fall into pit. I didnt wanna lie all my life and say that I studied in a worthy/reputed institute (atleast at that point in time)

@daredevil... I feel this topic is the RIGHT place to raise questions regarding glim's adm process. I feel you already have a seperate thread on 'glim institute'. Now that the admission process is over and u need only info on joinin dat institiute, i guess you can go over to that topic and raise your doubts. I bet fns wud be so glad to see you there rather than here.

Dude, can yu pls. let me know on what basis have yu quoted 90-95% weigthage of Recos letter. If yu cant pls. stop defaming, before we take it as an act to defame Great Lakes, which under Section 499 of Indian Legal System can be penalized. In case yu can get in proof's pls. do that else, pls. get yur facts straight.

You can well assume the results (as yu assumed the weigthage of recos.)

Hi Manoj,
your second point is well taken. I hope u agree that we have to get all the seats filled, fees payed before 19th to start the course on 20th. Now hink of this situation - if some students back out, then u give the waitlisted ppl only 9 days to pay up the whole fees, which is impossible. U are free to choose ur insti(and i respect that), but we cannot wait for the other instiz simply b/c their courses start after almost 2 months than ours.
Point 1: Like to mention again that the compulsory laptop thing was mentioned long before. Still, (though i unnderstand ur point well) from my experience last yr there was a lot of chaos with some ppl not giving the names/fees for laptops in search of other options and stuffs which has compelled the management to go for this decission.

Anyways may u strike the ur dream insti... all d best...

This is a forum. A public one indeed. I have every right to ask the queries i got. If you wish to sue me, go ahead.. (in ur dreams). and i think i can countersue you in sec.420. I have no problem to face such threats to stiffle the voice of the truth. If you need proofs, then i need access to profiles of all the selected candidates. Even a day would do. Can u arrange for that. I dare you on this one. If you want to make this official, i will mail this to uncle bala, prof sriram and whoever you wanna add. Shall i proceed ?? If i can get this data, i can put an even interesting analysis of your admission process.
