Re: Great Lakes Admission Queries - 16-03-2007, 07:51 PM

assuming that the admission committee has the waiting list ready.... i would request Glakes to declare the waiting list with the ranks thereby leaving no rooms for specualtions and cutting down anxiety amongst people who have not made it into the selection list.....

Me... Appn No:76... a Glakes aspirant....

every dog has itz day!!!!!

Re: Great Lakes Admission Queries - 16-03-2007, 08:10 PM

am not worried of speculation... and when u ppl know that it is speculation, why are u paying attention into it?? well.. we wont be releasing the waitlist... will follow the process as mentionned before....
posting the profiles of candidates is out of question... just lyk to mention the score indicators: of the selected ppl in the published list, avg gmat is arnd 670, ang cat is arnd 95, avg work ex is arnd 3 yrs. However again i tell u scores do not give the full indications of students.... now the floor is open again, u ppl can 'speculate', curse & bad-mouth the admission process.
i agree that postponement of dates are not the most comfortable of things to happen, but just lyk to mention that the first postponement was declared much before the deadline... the second postponement was done due to some of the repeated requests of candidates all over.
Would let u guys rethink: Had the guy who started the baseless comments ever commented, had he be in?? well, we do have strong reasons to accept/reject ppl. It does not mean someone with very great acads and scores can make great managers.... had that been the case then interviews would have been abolished.
However we would take the positives out od the discussion and forward ur suggestions to the management.

~FnS
P.S.: However u can search orkut for some of the profiles posted to get a kind of feedback !

Hi FnS,

I agree 2 watever u have mentioned. Just don't understand the logic behind not declaring the WL. U urself mentioned that if at all som ppl cancel their admissions, ppl in the WL will b informed thru emails, Right ? So that means u hav arnd 10-15 ppl in ur database, who u think will b offered admission is there r seat available. Then does it nt make more sense to inform these 10/15 ppl in advance ???... I mean dont u think it will help these ppl in making advnce arrangemnts ?? Wats wrong with declaring the WL when every colg does it.. And also when it specifically mentions that these candidates will b offered admission only subject 2 someone cancelling his/her admission..

Ur thoughts on this pls....

Thumbs down Re: Great Lakes Admission Queries - 16-03-2007, 11:24 PM

Finally the glim representative speaks up... only after re-directing him from the other glim forum, he showed up on this topic...

But those stats [regarding avg scores]. is it the average for a small section of candidates or the entire list ??? 95%ile in CAT and 670 in GMAT... I'm quite sure you have not spoken with adcom.. For, the actual average is far too less..
I agree that 'Good Marks alone wont make good managers'. But i'm very sure that those with very poor acads wont make good managers either.

And again you have successfully parried all the concerns about 'powerful' recommendations, which was instrumental in a vast majority of students getting admit into glim. Did this question miss you [twice], or is it that answering this question would put you in a tight spot. And no mention abt the Mar10th interview either.. Kudos..

Two points to this quote.
1) Not many would have thought or even bothered to check whether there had been a 'change of deadline' in your portal. [I just happened to notice it be chance. That too, just 10 days before you changed it for the second time]. Thats because, reputed b-schools don't change their application deadlines often. So, changing the date much before the deadline doesn't make much difference. Most of the candidates would have nevertheless been through completing the appln. Only the really lazy dudes cud have defaulted.
2) Regarding the confusion wrt the 2nd deadline. My god... U r really getting good at this.. I mean giving alternate facts [in other words, 'excuses'] Repeated Requests of Some students ???? So, had the students requested you to change the deadlines to May or June, would you have acceded to that request too ??? Get credible... Admit it.. You postponed the deadline for a second time, in order to sell off more applications. Never have I heard of such an unprecedented incident [both India and abroad], where a b-school changes its deadlines to accommodate a set of candidates [remember.. u have gone on record to state that]. This belittles the authority of the institution.
Had you stood by the prestige and Reputation of your institution, you would not even have considered postponement of any of your deadlines.

Now, with regards to the 'Rethink' idea. I'm glad I didn't make it in glim this year. I'm not saying this because I couldn't get into glim, this year. But after knowing wat's happening inside the institute, the unnecessary hype created and the non-transparent admission system [where one cant even get a feedback on his performance-they really didn't care about the candidates]. What more, even some of your alumni/future alumnus share the same feelings as mine. I would definitely not like to be in the position you currently are in now, a year down the lane. And for that, Thanks !!

The Truth is out there !!!!!!!!!

so atlast now you come to the point:
u dint make it because of changing deadlines... thats a good 'excuse' anyway... u r free to check any facts and figures that are posted here(pls dont ask me to post the proofs... i wont take the pain...)... nothing belittles the fame of the Inst. anyways.... its just a different way ur looking into things(after not getting selected in the first list)... well the alumnus and future alumnus were always there.... and u must have been in touch with them and still u applied to an inst. which u know wont fit ur 'ethics' [if i put it in dat way...]... if 'powerful' recos can get u in, well try it(nothing much i cn say).. may u get thru in other good inst of ur choice... otherwise u will curse all the b-skools which u dint get thru'... might b all the b-skools in the country and abroad... anyways wish best of luck to u...

Re: Great Lakes Admission Queries - 17-03-2007, 01:02 AM

Hi Seniors,

I have got admission into GreatLakes for 2007 batch and i need some info and unbiased advice from you and will be very thanksful to you. I have 97.33 percentile in CAT and i am basically a Comp.Sc. engg and have work ex of 3+ years. My confusion is that i have got admission into Narsee Monjee also and my results for SPJain are awaited. In this scenario what will be ur advise for joining Great Lakes. Your advice will be highly appreciated and will help me a lot. Also how real are the placement factors mentioned in website, as most of the institutes exaggerate the details.
Hope u understand that Great Lakes being a new institute taking decision to join it over other established B-Schools is difficult and as you people also would have experienced the same thing, thats where your advice will help me.

Thanks,

Srikant.

Re: Great Lakes Admission Queries - 17-03-2007, 07:26 AM

Hi,
I've never heard of any b-school applicants question the institute reg the application process.... It is true people are unhappy about getting rejected; But in other b-schools they get to know why... Its a learning process for all of us & everyone strives to learn from mistakes...

If I know what went wrong in my application process - low GMAT/CAT score or not-so-good essays or not-so-effective recos(in terms of the person who gave the reco & watever he/she wrote for me) or not-upto-the-mark GD & PI performance or low work-ex factor????

There are lot of positives from the application process as such... Getting to know about our strengths & weaknesses; Working on our weaknesses... Dedication & commitment in completing essays; preparing for GD-PI's... Because that failed to convert to an admit, we want to know why... Obviously the person who made it will not question as to why he was selected.. Coz that information is unnecessary for him. It is we, who got rejected, who'll have to apply again, need to know that...

May be I don't have enough qualifications this year. Fine, if that is the case, what do I lack (its relative)??? Now that I have one more year for the next admissions, I need to know how I can improve myself, so that I can apply next year & convert it to an admit... This is not out of frustration or anything... This is a continuous learning process for us!!!
