Re: Great Lakes Institute of Management - 2006-07 Batch - 20-01-2006, 11:35 AM

hi pinnochio.
sure i do remeber u.
Q) How many applicants were there in the first phase

i am not sure as to how many applicatn were there. did ask the admissions officer ,but these figs as u know are not not discolsed so she didn't tell me. i did hear people saying different figs, but there is no point to lending ur ears to rumours. still i feel there were arnd 700 applicants dont remebr frm where i got this but that's what i remeber; do not go by this fig.

q)how many got selected
48 got selected and the calcutta admmissions were still not over.

q) what are the number of seats remaining for the second phase
i think total no of seats are arnd 120 (not very sure though). so u can substract the no of selected students .

q) what is the approx ratio of fresher to work ex

they just say tht they have certain no of seats for freshers, but how many i dont know. and i dont think that the % of freshers for the previous batch can give u a correct or approx estimate.
i personally feel it should n't be more than 10 - 15%

Q) and i am getting recos from my manager, and VP

whooa that's amazing. i think that shld help u.

HEY

Nice to c that there has been so much of activity on this thread the last couple of days!
My dad happened to go and visit GLIM last week which actually turned out to be day 2 of placements. Thawt I wud share some of the points with the Batch of 2006-07
First of all my dad managed to meet Dr. Bala at the info session scheduled in Chennai. He was very impressed with him just like every1 else is. Despite being very busy he is highly involved with GLIM, continues to be very involved in the progress of his students, alumni etc.
Secondly no land has yet been allotted towards GLIM as yet and that is the biggest reason y they arent going on a big publicity drive. Once they have that they r definitely gonna step up the pace on this. Mayb we shud take ownership of this when we start our stint there. However we will be moving to a bigger facility.
Thirdly placements were happening in this resort far away from the actual campus so my dad didnt get a chance to talk to many students. But some of them were present in the info session and each of them had a lot of nice things to say on the experience they had had with GLIM and the placements were rocking
Overall lot of positive feedback!!

Ciao

Hey all.
Mez a current batch student for starters.
Just a few quick thoughts. I am sure you are all hopeful and positive about a great placement season at Great lakes ( please don't call it glim/glims). Thats part of the branding exercise!
Ya getting back to placement news- we have had 3 days of placement activities with more than half the batch placed. Around 50 people await their turn, which will happen sometime next month. We have zeroed in on certain dates and hopefully the wait wont be long. People with a variety of experience and specialized requirements constitute this list. We are in constant touch with each student to make sure everyone gets what he/she wants. Also many of those who got placed have had multiple offers, which is again great news as the industry is excited about this school and what it has to offer. I am able to share all this in the capacity of a placecom member.

For those who have made it to Great Lakes, its an excellent opportunity for all of you to practise all management lessons during your stint as a PG student here. You will be heading some committee and take decisions on issues from admission process to placements to branding and PR. As Uncle Bala often says, its " your school and you take care of it". If you want something, you get it done. Resources will be made available but initiative will be ours. I am really glad that you are all going to be a part of this fabulous experience. Ok ok... i don't want to sound prophetic .... ! Great Lakes rocks nevertheless
I suggest non-finance people to read up some basic stuff if possible. More gyan some other time...
