Re: Great Lakes Institute of Management - 2006-07 Batch - 20-01-2006, 08:52 AM

Hi,

This is Suchinder from chennai.

My educational background:

Secondary school : 93%
Higher secondary school: 87%
Undergraduation : B. V. Sc., (Bachelor of veterinary sciences) 78%
Internship experience: Kentucky equine management internship,
Lexington, Kentucky, USA
Work experience: 1 year in chettinad stud farm as Resident equine veterinarian.
18 months in a stud farm of saudi ministry in Saudi Arabia.

I appeared for GMAT on Jan. 18, 2006
Score: 600/800 - 70 percentile.
Quants: 46 - 80 percentile
Verbal: 27 - 46 percentile

Wat are my chances of getting into GLIM? Can i apply with this GMAT score. I'm afraid that i have a low score in verbal. Is it better to appear for GET?
How should i prepare for GD and interview? Suggest me some good books for the same.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Suchinder

Hi suchinder

I am unaware of the marking standard in the country you have done ur education from but going by the indian standards I feel that you have a good academic record . In addition to this your international exposure should work to your favour.

As far as the GMAT score is concerned, i repet myself it should be strictly ur decision, if u feel u can do better in GET tke it up other wise INVEST ur time in ur essays, recos, GD/PI preparation .

I have no idea whether a 600/800 in GMAT wud be decent or not. I can tell u abt cat ( indian GMAT lolololz ) . I personally feel that a 90%ile in cat is decent enugh.

remeber ur cat/gmat score is just one parameter. if u proove ur worth in essays/gd/pi u r through.

And ur bacjelor's degree looks totally new to me, i guess this again should work to ur favour as the admission panel wud be looking for a good mix of students.

so try it out. I feel u stand a good chance.

forgot to answere this in my last post. I read two newspapers "economic times" and "times of india" , though not regulalrly. i guess that should be enugh. besides this u can even join some of the MBA coaching institutes for ur GD/PI preparation if u r not very confident on it.

Yeah one important thing that i observed at GLIMS interview is that i wasn't asked any General Knowledge question, i don't know how it was for the other guys. Others please give ur feedback on this, i think this should be very inportant for all the prospective students.
I dont mean to generalise it, may be u r asked GK questions, but u still will have an idea.

I repeat. the interviewer's might ask u general awareness question , but i was not asked (may be i was luck on that).

hi avneet

GET is an easy test. Most of the questions in it is frm quants and tht too quite easy.

When i had given this test thr were 75 questions to be solved within 90 min. i guess half of it were frm quants. Apart frm quants there were questions on eng ie gram and vocab based questions, jumble sentences,i dont really remember if thr were any logical reasoning questions or not .There were'nt any RC.

I had managed to solve all the 75 questions within the stipulated time.

Anywayz ATB for ur GET,GD and PI
