Hi All,

Feels great to post here after a long while. Got my comp just yesterday and am surfing the net with a vengeance Found it pretty interesting going through the experiences of junta in other B-Schools. We too have had an interesting experience so far, here at IIM Cal. The last few days have been pretty cool. Had a couple of parties till late in the night. Things wont stay cool for too long. We too have a few assignments/presentations/projects/quizzes coming up. Slowly getting used to B-School life and Hostel life (My first experience). Will try to post as often as possible. Ciao for now

Bharath

PS : Met up with other PG-ites as well. You should be hearing from them soon as most of them have got their comps

Re: Life@IIMC - 15-07-2003, 01:25 AM

hi guys
sorry bout the dealy in emailing....but life has been busier than hell.....
well,,i touched down at cal city on 26th morning....came to the IIMC campus....the drive from cal airport to the campus made me realise why we def need capitalism....cal is supposed to be one of the bigger cities in india..but it reminded me a lot of a smal town..kinda like mangalore....as u can see..it hadnt started on a very positive note....till i reached IIMC....aha!!..now this place is something else.....

super scenery....hazaar trees...n dhed hazaar birds...only issue they might bomb u .so u gotta watch out for that.....

we have 3 hostels here..OH(old hostel),WH(white house-)and NH(new hostel)....
im in OH...and wat to say..its the hostel where the girls r staying too...so hell lot of guys r bigtim j!!...and good reason to be ...some mighty cute (n smart )women in the batch.....

we started classes on 1st....n have had 2 fin acc (thats financial accounting) and 2 stats quizzes already..like in 10 days....
any notion of IIMC being a cool lot.!!!..is very veryvery....ad infinitum..wrong......the course is damn rigorous...
but whats really good...is unlike IIMA where the focus in totally on acads..here they allow u sometime to do other stuf...so u have guys playing tennis,basketball,cricket..billiards...n some footer-volleyball(i forgot whats the thai name for it)..n to add to it..people r really nice here....

next..comes the blue board..the life of IIMC...its an online network...where messages for anything n everything can be posted....there is zero paper usage here..everything done thru network...an environmentalists dream!!!....this is tech at its max!!...we've got guys from texas instruments n accenture n the lot...n they say they havent seen anything like this..

but let me remind u...its not all fun n games hre....ive got 5 subjects...n the diff level is bad...n even worse is the competition level....as mentioned we ve got guys from accenture, sapient, a jee rank 60(whats he doing here???).....n guys like me cherishing dreams of mckinsey..but all in all a wonderful experience...mid terms in 3 weeks..n then we have the interhostel war..titled" world war"....wil write bout that later...
thats all for now...
cheers,lyndon

Finacc, that is a nice name.. Here they have named it MANAC(Managarial Accounting - Shud have been named MANIAC)... But whatever the name is the essence is the same, pain for engineers, jolly time for CA's.

Whatever they debit , they credit also & the end result is ZERO. If this is the case , I dont understand why they are doing all these...

Well pretty much like what we call Dbabble here. The most timeconsuming stuff in my PC. Hell, it is addictive and designed to eat into the limited time you have.

Lyndon, u dont know what we guys are into... We have 8 and subjects like WAC operates in the weekends... And buddy we cant bunk classes also...

And about competition, myself, rakesh et al have found out the best solution for it... the best thing is not to compete... Atleast you will have a peaceful life...

Hmmm...Well, for starters, we don't have as many quizzes as the guys at A and B...And among the 'kweejes' that we had (in FinAcc), I managed to screw up a couple of them..So thank god we dont have too many of these That probably explains why I'm not too averse to Micro Economics (in fact, I seem to be enjoying it, even though I dont necessarily agree with what the economists have to say )... But still last week was pretty hectic in terms of non academic activities..Recruitment for clubs went on in full swing..It was fun and pretty chilled out...Now the time has come to put the foot down and start studying in earnest (hopefully!) as we have our mid terms next week...So catch ya all after that =;

And the alumni is not doing a good job
This message from Ravi has spurred me on to post after a long time To be frank, I have been visitng the site almost daily, but have been feeling reeaaallly lazy to post. Am coming out of my hibernation now

Starting off with Mid-terms, it wasn't great (esp FinAcc and Behavioural Sciences), but kinda managed with the other subjects (MicroEco, Indian Economic and Political History and Statistics). Then we had ten days of 'World War', where the 3 hostels competed for each and everything under the sun. Basically it was a inter hostel sports event with quite a few other frills (in fact frills is a gross under-statement). It was total fun and a different experience. Our Lyndon bhai got injured when practising for the 'War' and is roaring like a wounded tiger these days Then after the war, we got busy with preparations for our Management Fest (Intaglio 2003), of which I and Lyndon are a part. The site should be out soon. So lookout for it. In between we had music nites, party nites (after the end-terms of the 2nd years) and quite a few other happening dos. Life is on the move continuously here, with hardly any breathing space, especially if u r involved in a whole lot of extra-currics (Still I manage to sleep for 6 hrs a day ). But it's enjoyable and something that one will get used to.

That's about it from me now. Will post after the end-terms are over. Ciao!

Regards,
Bharath

Iim C Tears Asunder Xlri....in Iimc -xl Sports Meet - 24-09-2003, 07:01 PM

sorry to snatch the honors from bharat ram but, after witnessing THE MAGNITUDE OF TRAUMA tht xl went thru in the last 3 days, just cudnt resist the temptation to write abt IIMC XL MEET.well,i am gautam duggad and am in FIRST YEAR pgpdm at cal.i have been reading all the stuff but posting for the first time.so here is the account of massacre...

first of all..must say tht this meet was totally controvesy free and was played with amazing spirit from both sides...at the end of the meet both teams cheered for each other...so the purpose of the meet was served....

the meet cud not have been more one sided...the score line says it all....21 events iim c won 18 ....xl 3 ....women's baddy ,bridge and football....complete domination by iim c on the field as well as off it....in slogan shouting and cheering....the demoralised bunch cudnt realise what hit them.....they forgot to cheer there players....but then....in order to induce some competition into the meet ....iim c divided itself into 2 groups...one to cheer for xl and other for iim c ......tht shud suffice to portray the mindset the xl guys n gals were in.....

cricket...iim c scored 258 in 25 overs ..wasnt it Himalayan!!....xl were reduced to 190 in 25..tht too after some generousity from iim c which decided to give practise to its spinners and others who never bowl...it was a no match...u can call it was a joke....

basketball.......the domination cud not have been more explicit....iim c scored 100 points ...xl around 40-45......our captain left the field midway for apparent lack of motivation to play....does tht give u some picture of wht was happening in the cool surroundings of joka. ...

table tennis.....it was like the God of iim c tt...teaching "twinkle twinkle little star "to small little kids.....again the result was same... :P

womens throwball and volleball......it was a final nail in xl coffin.....one of the girls single handedly scored 12 points in throwball...bringing the score from 3-6 in xl favour to point -6 in iimc favor.....volleyball....expression on the xl faces were worth treasurng for life time...it was like "Oh my God !!! what was that"

lawn tennis....this was the game when we decided to make it fair for xl and divided ourselvs into two groups..1 for xl..1 for iim c....this game was waterloo for xl. ..

carrom, chess ,mens baddy, age of empires, ring hockey...needless to say..same thing happened with varying intensity....

iim c jnta was feeling sick of victories and was desperately wishing for some defeats....but iimc simply is unable to loose....we hope we get atleast some competition next year....or else its a sheer boredom to keep winning...

this meet has registered our consecutive "i dunno know what number" of victory...but suffices to say tht we are invincible since the meet started some 30-35 yrs ago...
Victory is a tradition at IIM C ....thats it.... :P

Re: Life@IIMC - 24-09-2003, 10:40 PM

Well, Duggad da has summarised the meet in his own inimitable style. As he mentioned, the camaraderie between the teams was excellent. It was two and half days of total fun and masti. And the fact that it came immediately after our end terms made it even better.

From the PG forum, caught up with Suj, Xman and Gaurav Kathotia. It was nice to see them after a long time (In the case of Xman, for the 1st time). Gaurav was in his elements in TT but couldn't stop an IIMC win (It was played in a format similar to the Davis Cup). Suj seemed to be pretty popular with the fairer sex

But all in all, it was an experience to remember. Wish the meet takes place more than once a year. Pretty sad to note that I'll be experiencing it just once more in my life. It was THAT fun (and spirit)

I suppose that's it from my side. Will keep u all posted on all the upcoming events. Ciao!

Regards,
Bharath
