The atmosphere around campus has been different these days from the usual madness...
First we had Mr Harsh Mariwala, Chairman & Managing Director of Marico Limited visiting the campus for the leadership series...
Now I have talked quite a bit about STI, but learning about marketing from someone like him was a totally different experience....To listen about branding, innovation & marketing strategies of products like Parachute & Saffola directly from the person responsible for those decisions is the kind of class worth attending
Here is the PG article on the event : PaGaLGuY.com - The Everything of MBA, CAT 2008, GMAT, XAT, IIM - B-School News - IIM-K Leadership Series: Harsh Mariwala talks about the Marico story
Then we had Mr. Stephen from HUL on the campus , again for the leadership series, explaining brand communication and advertising strategy...learning from examples like close-up etc. is now perhaps the only way left for a student like me to clear his marketing concepts
This weekend has one the biggest event of this semester till now...Arthanomics, the investment Banking & Private Equity Summit...& now my Finance is about to be brushed up
People have been running around these days for various activities related to managing Arthanomics...& Baby has taken to sleeping in his chair( I'll be posting the pic soon )
Here's the link for Arthanomics' thread : http://www.pagalguy.com/forum/life-b...nvestment.html
Do check out the prizes for some of the competitions
Exams will be starting soon...& my preparation is....well...you get the picture
Though classes of most subjects have finished, Prof. Matthews will be back soon....& then, Social Transformation of India(or at least the students ) will begin again
Till then

Hello!
Just 2 sessions into Arthanomics and even someone like me who is not a hard-core fin guy is sitting on the edge of his seat and listening eagerly. 2 sessions, and 2 fantastic speakers - Mr. Manoj Gandhi, VP - Nexus Capital Advisors, and Mr. Hemendra Aran, CEO - Aranca. With the impressive list of speakers scheduled, Artha is going to absolutely rock!
Till coming to IIM Kozhikode, I'd always had this extreme reluctance to attend anything in addition to the compulsory lectures. After coming here, I've realized how good these sessions can be.
Despite the threat of looming exams, I am going to find it difficult to resist myself from going to the auditorium...

Harshad | Similar sentiments here Harshad..What we heard and saw today at the summit was the real thing from the horse's mouth. To hear about venture capital fund management to private equity to investment banking to M&A'a etc etc and the practical aspects and advice from people who have been there done that and are at the helm of these areas is an experience like no other. The sheer personalities and spree of achievements of the heavyweights who spoke in todays summit fills me with awe..add to that the nuggets of knowledge that they offer and the respect they show to course participants like me because we are at a IIM K and one cant help but feel good about it . Another thing that really impressed me were the spectacular co-ordination that the various committees had to bring about a show like this. I seriously admire you guys to be able to juggle between so many things and do them all well given that the acads here are themselves so demanding. | | | | | The Following 5 Users Say Thank You to comingback2life For This Useful Post: | | | | | |

Hello Frnds,
The last two weeks have been fantastic here in Kampus with lot of great speakers coming in and giving their insights.
The first one to mention here is about Mr Harsh Mariwala, Chairman & Managing Director of Marico Limited who came and gave a speech as part of the leadership series organized by Industry Interaction Cell. He talked about the company, the values and the growth of the firm. Lots of information was told about how values hold a great part in the growth of any company. Then we had Mr.Stephen the brand manager of Closeup from HUL, giving a wonderful presentation on Cross cultural branding. He associated Closeup with branding and gave some interesting facts about advertisements. The role of advertisements for any product was explained so clearly and the entire batch enjoyed the session.
Arthanomics ’08 – The Investment Banking and Private Equity Summit started yesterday. I will write more about Artha in a separate post. It needs special attention because the speakers who came here to speak are fantastic. Two weeks without seniors – no crowd in mess, less wait time in the canteen but still missed them as there was some sort of emptiness in the Kampus.
We had a batch party last week, an excellent one at a hotel in Tusharagiri.
With so many things happening, now we have just 10 more days for our End terms. The library is getting filled up again and you can see people with books in hand all the time.
More updates soon.......... Prabaharan S K

Hello Friends,
And now some updates on Arthanomics ’08.........
Investment Banking and Private Equity was the main concepts chosen for this year and the profiles of the speakers made everyone in the Kampus enthusiastic and the auditorium was packed with crowd for all sessions.
The summit started with a speech from Manoj Gupta – Vice President, Nexus Capital Advisors. His speech mainly focussed on Venture capitalists and the steps an entrepreneur need to follow to approach a VC. The emergence of Clean tech was emphasized.
Hemendra Aran was the next person. Hemendra is the CEO of Aranca Corporation; a firm dealing with Equity research and much more. Hemendra was a very young person and he spoke a lot on the challenges he faced in becoming a successful entrepreneur. The speech motivated a lot of budding entrepreneurs from IIMK.
There was panel discussion in the evening; the guests were Kamlesh Gandhi – Country Head, Investment Banking, Religare, Som Krishna – ICICI Investment Banking Group, Ravi Mani – Associate Director, Equirus Capital. The discussion was about cross border M&A’s and the amount of knowledge I got from that session is enormous. That is why appreciating the speakers are more important here. They made things very clear and concise and some very good questions from the student community made the session more lively and interactive.
Then there were two sessions one by Ravi Mani and then by Hemendra on Mergers and Acquisitions. When you search the net for data on M&A’s you get only 10% of the data of what these speakers told. Lot of information about mergers and how do the sell side and the buy side negotiate; the role of Investment bankers in this area and lot of more data.
The day ended with a session from Som Krishna on Corporate Finance. He also shared his views on how ICICI go about and the way the banking sector responds to changes in market, etc etc...
When I slept yesterday, my thoughts were fully on Investment banking, M&A’s and all that information. How good to be in this place to learn or rather experience the talks of these famous persons.
Wait for the updates about the Second day..... Prabaharan S K

Long time no see
So done with my 4th term but what have i done till now
Well academically my gains would be zilch but other intangible gains have been invaluable. Right from the start of this term there has been one activity or the other happening on campus which kept us all busy. I wont go into the details coz they have already been specified in the above posts.
Exchange students have arrived on campus and they have improved the femme factor by a significant amount. Now i can proudly say that we can give pgp10 a run for their money ( yo in terms of femme quotient)
The enthu levels of PGP12 in all the events and activities have been phenomenal. My first impression of the batch was a bit different but they proved me wrong. They have already won prizes in the B-School competitions
5th term hasnt started properly for many second year students. I already had two quizzes in a subject ( both were surprise quizzzzes Like joker i too love em)
Pappus/pappis are pouring on IIM K similar to the incessant rains we are facing currrently. I congratulate all my batch mates who have got pappu/pappi and this is from a token of gratitude to them from my side for their acheivement Going as per the trends there are many more coming in the future
Final exams for PGP12 are scheduled to be held from next week
for your exams facchhas.
signing off,
