i wonder what his superiors must have adviced him on the issue. they surely must know abt it! the guys who have done this surely must have a lot of contacts and after a long process of litigation his family will either be given some money or threats to keep their mouth shut.

i guess this story actually atleast got some limelight bcoz he was from IIML. wonder what would happen if a regular joe tries to take on corruption? the whole issue would be lost in the depths of obscurity almost the next day.

whatever has happened is extremely sad . but the point is that media takes up such issues only when someone from IIT or IIM is involved. the rest i guess are dispensable.

Its is extremely sad that a person who stood up against corruption had to face such a consequence. Now it is immaterial whether the person was from a IIM or from any other institution. The media needs to be heavily criticised for the fact that during the CAT examinations they had a very great coverage for admission into IIMs. But the same media did not not even carry a single article or news when a Jewel from IIM was shot dead. It was only after I read Gaurav's blog that I came to know about this whole episode.I on my part have sent e-mails to TV channels rightly criticizing them of showing viewers what sells. They need to understand that their is much more than earning profits and being number one. I on my part have made my college friends and office colleagues aware of the same. This is not the end. WE JUST CANNOT LET HONEST PEOPLE DIE LIKE THIS.

Yes, I know that this issue has only hit the limelight becoz he was from an IIM. Yes, I know that these incidents need to be highlighted whenever they happen. Yes, I know that I don't just feel bad becoz he was my alum.

I remember feeling a boiling rage when I read about Satyendra Dubey. I remember the angst I felt when I felt that this knowlege I had was solely because he was an IITian and not another ordinary mortal....

And yet, it hit me, is this about IIT kanpur or IIM Lucknow? Or indeed about any IIT or IIM? No. It's about what is happening to our country. How it is being raped and ruined by a few people, while the rest of us sit silent. I appreciate the sentiments expressed by someone on this thread saying that if we don't act, we should just shut our mouths (not in so many words, but the message was obvious)....

Today or tomorrow, the students community will meet...perhaps there will be a protest march...perhaps a candle march...or perhaps nothing at all...

What I want to raise here though, is a voice that says that integrity is not yet dead... For all the wealth that someone may offer, there are people who will not sell out...and it is time that these people took the place of being our idols rather than the bas**rds like Nehru, gandhi etc...or indeed those of our predecessors at these elite institutions who would rather sell their souls and be millionaires than hold their heads high and say that some things are just not for sale...

I had gone thro the blog entries of some of Manju's friends, juniors and seniors. Manju was a talented singer and an excellent character........he will be solely missed. I feel thoroughly gutted.

I am absolutely sure that Manju knew what he was doing. The land yonder is no safe haven and closing down a pump is no ordinary thing. Huge money borrowed at eye-popping interests circulate on the basis of the daily transactions. A day's stoppage of this activity can have untold damages. Hats off to him to have done what he did, it needed courage. He paid for it with his life..........and hell this kinda shit happens to those who display their integrity under the most trying circumstances.

I don't want to crib about the media or the government, I know I cannot do nething about that. The least I can do is remember manju for wot he was.....not many of us would have even thot of doing wot this guy had the guts to do.

Gandhi was a fool

I believe he was a fool and I should have a right to say it. No one should murder me for that. I think everyone should have premarital sex. No one should put me in jail for saying that.
You can assume that I am a fool but I dont want to be murdered for anything.

In any case, this country has been neutered long ago because of the stupid ideals of a few stupid people. Till today 1 billion people in this country think that India won independence because of a few people who said kick my ass if you want but I will not fight back. I believe in non violently accepting any crap that is thrown at me. Only a handful acknowledge that British got sick of everything after World War where they got crapped up like crazy... and said to hell with this stupid country. The only good indian is a dead indian

I agree because indians have been permanently neutered and no longer know when violence is required and when non violence is required. They no longer when to say enough is enough. They still take any crap that is thrown at them.

Thankfully the government has created the IITs and IIMs where you can somehow sneak in and get educated by the money that should actually educate india's young children who deserve atleast a basic education along with a basic meal... And ofcourse after a few years of mugging there get out of here to a place where you can say...

Gandhi was a great man...

HaHa!!!

I got my catch for the day

Anyways Gandhi was an honourable man but a little more than slightly overrated. You cannot be just experimenting with the truth and say truth always wins. Did he try experiementing with dishonesty. It wins in some cases far more effectively Check out Ambani's wealth Sorry for calling him a fool though... it was a... verbal tool:wink:

Also the point my friend is exactly the tempering of reactions. and not Gandhi per se... Indians are tempering their reactions too much and nothing seems to bother them too much. As i said the first place to start is maybe to reduce all this Gandhi, Nehru is great nonsense from school textbooks... among other things... You will see that we might even win a few more olympic medals if we did it... and make the future generations atleast more natural and reactive to everything around us

Re: IIML alum gunned down...sad but true... - 24-11-2005, 09:43 AM

Just talked to my Dad in Lucknow about it.He is running an Indian Oil gas agency for last 20 years. Was an active youth in Lucknow University politics .Currently he is the spokesperson of "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan".A party floated by Sunil Shastri.
His say on this :"These things will occur, but its on your generation to stay here and fight it out or run away to "greener pastures" if you dont have the balls for it.The current generation has got it all easy.In terms of jobs, oppurtunities and exposure. You are so much used to service your US/Europeon customers that you have forgotton what India is all about.Your generation has not faced the emergency era of 70s and the helplessness of unemployment in 80s.
Corruption is a part of the system, tell me one country which is clean? But the youth today wants things in black and white. And yes,you all are full of double standards. You want the things perfect, served to you on a platter. If people from IIMs/IITs and other top institutes will go to private sector of course the public sector will get the worst lot.And then now you expect these imbeciles to serve you honestly? How is it possible? If you really feel anguished over this,if you really feel that you want to change the system, first get ready to make some sacrifices on your own.Get into the system and change it.Do not shout from outside and show your temporary anguish.Be ready to make sacrifices if you want the things according to you.Do not sit in front of your computer and type big big words. If IIML really feels about it,why dont they go to the Lko DM and march a protest? Killers are nabbed, but they are just pawns.Get the people behind them. That will be a victory for them.
I throw open a challenge to all of you so called "intelligent" and "best managers of the country",show me how well you can manage this issue.Let it be a case study."
