Question Re: life@SIIB - 28-10-2005, 11:43 AM

hi to everyone on this forum

i came to know that majority of international business is related to the import
export and nothing new.......is that true? is that only related to the WTO,Exim
policies, shipping and logistics? Is it really international business in a true sense? How the course at SIIB would help? Does it provide excellent course
and opportunity to be really global businessman in this globaliation arena?

Please throw some light on my Q

please reply

Thanks in advance

Cool Re: life@SIIB - 28-10-2005, 01:33 PM

hi anees

although the Institute has is own criteria to give calls which is not disclosed to the students but still it can be safely said that a good work x definitely raises your chances of making it.

as far as cut offs are concerned they are more or less around the figure which Vivek mentioned but are a little lower for industry sponsored candidates.

Vivek has mentioned the fig. of 63 just to give u an idea & it may not be 100% accurate as no one knows the exact fig.

Re: life@SIIB - 29-10-2005, 10:17 AM

Well well..i do see a lot of queries in all u guys minds especially umd2020 ,anees and doshik.
First of all let me clarify that the score of 63+ is an average for last year. This year the cutoff will change with the difficulty level of the question papers. Also the cutoffs will be lower for people with work ex as work ex has a weightage in the selection procedure. We have students with excellent work ex of 3+ years in L &T, GE Money, Mahindra & Mahindra, Voltas International ,Nestle(Agri business)..besides others with 1-3 years work ex in various others companies like Caritor(Now you know how your chances are anees)among others.
Next coming to the question about what does International Business(IB) contain besides EXIM,shipping and logistics? and my answer is everything else. Our course curriculum is designed in a way that we have an international aspect to every subject we learn.Whether that be in International finance and international finance markets,Overseas Market research as a separate subject after doing a paper on Applied Market Reseach(We rightly believe we have the best faculty for this subject in the country including the IIMs...You will know once u join)...Also remember Supply chain Management does not only mean logistics.Logistics is just a part of SCM and as India still has to develop World class SCM standards the entire SCM is taught on international basis. Marketing naturally has a mixed bag of both International and domestic case studies with a separate subject of International Marketing in Sem 2 along with a subject of International Economics..All these details are also given on the website www.siib.ac.in under the courses topic.
Thirdly coming to placements like mentioned earlier we obviously have 100% placements(Yeah like anyone bothers about that line any more )Coming to the real figures of placements we have an average placements figure of 4.8 lakhs with a median of 4.2...Now thats what interest you guys more i know...Anyways the exact break up of the placements and salaries is given on the website again....

So i hope i have satisfied your appetites for now atleast. au revoir, adios, auf wiedersehen, still don't know the chinese version of it.lol(btw thats an aspect of international business too ..4 foreign languages ot choose from )

Re: life@SIIB - 03-11-2005, 12:46 PM

Hi Misha,

I heard from many sources what SIIB boasts of 100% placements is not exactly 100%only top 50% get good placements and rest of the them toggle hard and end up with a meagre salary. Infact many of them complete the course without getting placements

Its not that i want to demean u folks.

but please let me know whether the above said information is correct or wrong.

waiting for ur replies

Regards
Sandy
