Usually I stay away from posting in this section... since I dont belong to any B-school neither I am an aspirant... But seeing that lot of junta is still confused about the placement scenario...I would like to put up what I know about placements and in general about this school....this is totally based on off-hand information I got from few friends and there is nothing "official" about it
a) I guess there are still 30-35% students to be placed yet...
b) The placements are not that rocking since
-- Indian companies shy away from going to Dubai when they can get
the same/better quality ppl in India in abundance....(so unless they
want specific skill set e.g Retail or Services)... but traditional
companies in these sectors are still reluctant to hire the newly minted
hot-shot MBAs for higher roles and fatter paycheques. This is true
with these companies in India also. I have heard of SPJDuabi studnets
who have rejected offers because of this [not better roles or lower
salaries]. Despite this SPJDuabi has been able to attract lot of biggie
companies, so its a great effort.
-- Dubai companies come to campus, but the dubai industry works in a
totally different way. They wont give higher roles to a fresh graduate
(unless the students have substantial like 5-10 yrs exp). Also dubai
companies dont have the concept of Management Trainees. So there
is no set hirerachy for management cadre. You work your way up by
hard-work. Thats the idea there. So initially you sweat like a fresher
and then if you stay in dubai for say 5 years you can grow like
anything. But yeah you get ample money (remember no income tax in
dubai and accomodation+travel expense taken care by companies)
c) I have heard of students getting placements like someone in Finance
getting 13-14lakh placement in India in some financial company. In RM,
the highest seems to be 6-7 lakhs.
d) So placements are happening although not like Day0,Day1 etc etc as in
IIMs... but aint that true of all international schools... even ISB is yet to
place around 40 ppl despite having placements started in Feb. The
reason : people are just not willing to accept any role/job.
e) About school, the professors that come to teach are definitely
world-class. So you surely getting a good learning. Probably peer
learning is not as high as may be in ISB, since the entry to SPJDubai is
still a tad lenient.
f) The infrastructure is NOT world-class... but that is true of most indian
b-schools except ISB.
g) It will definitely need time to grow-up... the alum network is yet to
gain strength... but I have heard that the few first batch students are
currently at good positions after one year. For example, one person is
heading an entire south region of a big company as a sales/marketing
manager. Yet the school needs may be 3-4 years to gain some
reputation/brand name.
My suggestion would be to take you own call instead of getting confused by so many counter views. Definitely the ROI is a major factor. You need to spend a good 12-13 lakhs... and unless you take up a job in Dubai, it would be tough call since in India you cannt earn much (given the fact that you have income tax and other expenses)....Ofcourse there can be jobs in Singapore for the next batch...
Just a suggesstion though for people posting here.. its easy to bad-mouth an institute... (even probably I did it many times).. but I realised that it wont help you much... if I can gain so much information despite that I am not aspiring for any b-school.. then surely you also should be able to do the same...
Seniors here are doing a good job... and they have their personal lifes too...so be polite... thats the only way to gain info... Imagine out of a class of 100 probably you just see 2-3 ppl here... and if they also vanishes then how you will be getting any information...it wont hurt them.. but it will surely hurt you guys...
Best Luck to all...
