What Next ? - 27-03-2006, 03:34 PM

Friends

Have been out of touch of late. Any one who got admits from Ohio State and/or Carnegie Mellon ? I have these 2 admits. I had not send the funding docs along with application. So next step is that I have to send the docs to these instis.

Can anyone tell me what should be the next step after that ? What is the right time to apply for VISAs and loans ?

Thanks

Just adding my two cents; I agree. Rankings in general are overblown in terms of importance to the applicants. Once you get into B-school, and more importantly, after B-school when you are looking for jobs, no one cares about rankings.

Anyways, just wanted to point out that rankings are actually not all that important.

Guyz I am facing a huge dillemma and seek your help...
I have got admit with ltl schol from Carnegie Mellon (Tepper), admit with huge schol from Ohio State (Fisher) and then admit from our one and only IIM Calcutta. Where to go :eh: .

I understand this is a question of highly personal nature but then some expert opinion never hurts does it ?

Please pour in your views

thanks

As long as you understand that this is a very personal issue, and as long as financial constraints are not a deciding factor, i`d say go for TEPPER. My oder of preference would be: tepper, IIM, fischer.

Maybe if you mentioned your profile and career goals etc, things could be slightly more clear.

Approvals and celebrations will rarely surround your inner decisions and choices to follow Personal Truth. You will be challenged and taunted: “Who do you think you are, anyways?” And, indeed, through your choices and decisions, that is precisely the question you are answering–to yourself.

Thank for posting Crash..
My personal ranking is same as yours... Some details about my profile would sure be helpful for you all to comment

Work ex: 4 yrs CTS
Undergrad: IT-BHU, Chemical Engg 2002 batch
GMAT: 770

Career Objectives

1. Staying India VS US: Both are okay. Just a ltl bias towards US. But indeed I want to have long term flexibilty in deciding where I wish to stay. For ex.. 5 yrs down the line if I wish to move to say Europe, at least my education shouldnt be a hindrance in that

2. Post MBA: Strong wish to move out of IT, Consulting (in likes of BCG, EnY etc..) is the preferred destination. I have some entrepreneurial experience as well and wish that MBA should give me at least some specialised tools so that I can choose entrepreneurial path as well few yrs down the line.

3. ROI: Given that I am just an ordinary Indian ROI matters. If not in short term at least in the middle term.

I am not too sure how much second point is feasible at IIMs. Please comment.

Thanks all

Personally, i feel your profile is good enough for you to get into a top 10 b school in US...i wonder why you`d even consider fischer with a profile like that. From what i know, IIM does not offer you so much global mobility. IIM grads joining MNCs might manage to negotiate overseas postings later in their careers, or if they`re smart enough, pull off an overseas job from campus, but even IIM guys have trouble packing bags and moving abroad in the middle of their careers. mobility wise, tepper is better off than IIM. entrepreneurship wise, Tepper has a really good entrepreneurship/technology track in their mba program...check it out and see if it meets your needs. Personally, i feel IIMs are more like sources of juicy corporate jobs than entrepreneurship hubs. in terms of ROI, IIMs RULE!

Thanks for your response crash..
OSU was my safe bet application. This year application rose by more than 400% almost everywhere and I was very late in my application so i thought better of applying at top b-schools. got rejetced from 2 where I had applied.

For CMU funding is my prime concern now. I do not have a US cosignor and CMU doesnt act as guarantor on loans. Cananyone advise me regarding the funding options that could be available..

Thanks
