Sorry man pankaj was a little busy for a few days hence no posts,
Btw thanks a load for the STIC card info, the card cost arnd 750 bucks in Uk , but here it is arnd 300 bucks, so gonna get it ASAP,
Also when are you planning to apply for visa, i heard the price for visa application is gonna increase from 1st july.
Also what are you gonna do abt books, are you gonna buy from here or buy from there, my friend in UK said it was costly to buy from there.
Another important info to all UK going guys, just buy basic wollen clothing, maybe a pair of dresses, not much, bcas winter wear in UK is much cheaper, and in sept it is not that cold according to their standard.. thats arnd 11 degrees, so hav a basic jacket and stuff, but not too much.. is what my friend suggest me. Hey dushyant,
Well man , as u wud hav seen from my prev posts i hav got into Cardiff for their MBA course, mate i hav the same qualifications as yours am a engg. with no work ex, but still got thru on basis of good acads, interview and SOP.And let me tell u cardiff is one of the best B-schools in UK, ranked 7th.
Frankly having work Ex according to me has its own adv and disadv, bcas personally for me i dont think so i will be in a frame of mind to go and join some school three years hence, but there can be disadv as u dont know much abt how a company works?, but what the hell we didnt know anything abt engg. when we joined it .. so whats the prob... just train urself to think and act like a manager.
Abt MBA in UK, i think first of all u shud know that its a 1 yr course and a very practical one, so there wont be time to get in all that theory in.. and the course will be quite hectic, courses in US is for 2 yrs and similar to indian MBA's. So u hav to decided which is ur cup of tea.
Next, let me tell u scholarships for MBA courses are very hard to come by in UK however good ur acads, so u hav shell out quite some money anywhere in the range of 15-20 lakhs, this includes living costs.
Frankly for a fresher i wont suggest a Msc course, as its area speific and u dont know what u are intrested in unless u are in the industry or are damn sure abt ur carrier plans.
Finally abt the placements, See Uk schools dont hav anything like Placement day or anything, there are placement fairs and the college will help u in every which way by sending ur resumes to various multinational companies, but thats it , u shud push hard and there is no reason why u shud not get a job there,
Abt getting a job here, yes its absoutly possible for u to, get a job here as the degrees are well recognised in India and adds that foriengn touch to it.
A final word abt selecting a instiute a good yard stick to go by is the RAE ratings, they are research ratings of the school done by gov. so its a good indication of how good the school is? , a 5* being the best and so on..
Hope this helps, if u wanna know anymore info pls let me know, Vinod.k Quote: |

HI Rohini
First of all welcome to this thread. There r 2 guys including myself and Vinod from Mumbai going to Cardiff for MBA this Year. Cardiff is a highly recognised B-school in UK. Also It stands at 5 B rating in Research Assesment Exercise conducted by govt. In terms of placement it is totally subjective matter. it depends how u perform out there. But there r good companies which recruits MBA from cardiff like Accenture, Golman sach, citibank.
. U just see previous replys made by vivin_123 thru out this thread, u would get a clear view and all ur queries might get solved . than to if u have anything to ask just let me know .
Regards

hey vinvin
i must say that this forum is one of the most responsive and informative ones i have seen... thanks PG!
neways back to business.....
i just had this thought in mind about doing an msc because the universities explicitly define this course as being for fresh graduates. leeds infact even went ahead to say that it is an alternative for mba seekers without work ex...
i had interactions with ppl from cardiff too at a fair at the british council here in delhi. and i was pretty convinced too. they told me that their mba programme is different from others because they create managers while others develop and groom managers. but what about the saying that mba is a course that one should always take with some practical experience? these doubts do come in mind..
about the uk yea i know its for one yr. and im glad! i have already researched quite a bit and am preety much sure of selecting the uk over the us. about the cost? yea schols wud be tough but then education loans zindabad!
u tell me, how did u apply ? references from college? how important are academics? coz im no topper at college u see. and yea what was ur ielts band?
guess ur leaving in september? do stay i touch with this forum then also. we cud earn a lot from your experience...
PG ROCKS!

hello mehul....thank u...that was indeed a quick reply..anyway..nice to hear that u and vinod too are going to Cardiff this year...so great..so i guess both of u also would be leaving in september..i think there is another guy, gaurav who is also going there...so that's really nice...u from bombay too mehul ??..anyway..i still have to confirm the offer i have...i have also applied for the Msc Marketing course at Aston and Strathclyde..have to still hear from them..so lets see what happens...but then after receiving this Cardiff offer...i was thinking...that an MBA is a more complete package than an MSc...donno..a little confused about that...anyway..so hope to see u also at Cardiff soon...
ciao..

Hey dushyant,
Man thanks a lot, anytime yaar, this whole forums idea is at sharing and helping ppl, so PG indeed rocks, after all he puts in 4 lakhs every year in this forum,
Abt the application, if ur in ur final sem i think u can apply, also u dont need to be a college topper man, i am one of the least scholastic persons around,
Let me tell u how i applied, 1st of all did a lot of research on which college to apply, how good it is, what are the job opprtun. etc,etc.. I think u are doing this process now.
Next i narrowed it down to 2 univs Cardiff for their MBA, Lancaster for their MSc,
After that i went on to apply for them thru their indian representatives, (u can also apply directly, but i suggest u go thru a represntative), in my case it was Edwise, their services were free and i didnt hav to worry abt courier and stuff as all of this was done by them..Free of cost.U get the application form ,brochure, etc there.
Luckly for me i got to hav an interview session with one of cardiff's senior tutor whose was on a visit to mumbai, and even more luckly i was waved of from giving the IELTS, bcas the tutor thought i had a good english and also that i did my entire education in Englis, so it went in my favour.
Also other things he looked at the interview was my acads, though average for me it was good enuf for him, (u need atleast a first class honours degree) for cardiff MBA, next most important thing was my SOP, he was really impressed with it and i think this tilted him to waver my IELTS, thats it i he said he wud get back to me in a few weeks time.
It took a month and my counsellor called me saying that i got into cardiff MBA, and also lancaster (i had no interview here) , now i was truly on the top of the world, but confused.
Bcas lancaster was a 6 * rating school and cardiff a 5, but i finally decided on cardiff due to 2 reasons, first it was a MBA course, and the employment oppurutnity if i come back here wud be good for a MBA , than a MSc, was my personal understanding, so here i am now.. gonna go to cardiff.. just need to get a visa now...
Hope this info helps..if u want to know anything more lemme know.. vinod.k All the KEYS to success are given to every man

Hey Rohini,
First of all many Congrats to you on your admit to cardiff, and welcome to PG,
As my good friend mehul pointed out that am going to cardiff this sept, wud like to share some info with u.
I guess u had wanted to hav some idea abt the recruitment there, be rest assured it is good, i personally talked to a senior tutor from cardiff in person and he said the recuritment was good, though they dont gurantee anything, frankly no one can, but he said if ur good then there is no stopping u from getting recurited here or in UK, plus u see at cardiff u can see many indian businessmens wards coming there, so u never know u cud be working for ur friends company, so be sure ur nice to them!!!!
If u need anymore info pls feel free to ask me
BTW are u from Mumbai Too ? vinod.k Quote:
