Am done with my Visa !!! - 22-07-2005, 10:25 PM

Hey guys/gals,

Am done with my Visa!! just got it today !!!

anyways looks like the thread is buzzing with activity some time now !!!

well first all of welcome to all the newbees ,

And let me tell you something. If you really wish to make a career with your MBA its always better you do it from a good b school be it in india or abroad.Otherwise theres no point.Mpreover its always better that you dont go to these Universities that come down to India for students as well as their agents. Have u ever heard about Cambridge or Oxford or Warwick come to india. All these universities that come are all average b schools. So think twice before you jump into anything.

HI there.I am Manoj and i plan to do my MBA in the UK. Regarding to u r query i always would advice you never to go for an MBA in general management as it reduces your chance of placement. Most of the corporates are looking for people specialised in a certain feild. An MBA in general management is equvalent to" Jack of all trades but master of none." And again Cardiff is not the b school to go to as it has come out of the EMBA association. Its reputation has gone down a lot now.I would suggest you to try Strathclyde,Warwick,Judge Institute of management(Cambridge), Said business school(Oxford) or Cranfeild. Its better do your MBA in india rather than doing it at Cardiff
hey manoj mani respect ur views, but i strongly object ur saying that cardiff is an average school, let me tell u this there are only 8 schools in uk with rae rating 5, So pls give a FAIRER picture !!!
And one more thing the institutes ur saying are no doubt excellent, but they are too damn costly anything in the range of 40 lakhs, not everyone has that kinda fund..Also dont u think that doing an MBA in India means doing it from the top schools and maybe ther are arnd 8000 seats in all, from good schools, but what if ur not one among them, isnt it better to do from a inst that is as good as ur aiming at (Not the IIMS) but tell me cardiff is way better than the somayas and other colleges,

The next thing u said abt the visa extension under the HSMP scheme-2004, well yes they are good schools, but did u note the fact that there ae only 10 uk colleges and 40 colleges from arnd the world , more from the US, so do u want to do from US, also worth noting is that not even one indian school is on the list.. even the IIM's, so u tell which is good or bad...

Am sorry if i hav been harsh but man pls give a fair analysis..not some random..everyone can tell go to harvard, wharton..but not everyone can make it there, and there are good schools beyond them.. and i firmly believe Cardiff is one of them...

cheers,

vinod.k

p.s: am trying and putting together a doc of imp pts and docs needed for student visa, hopefull will be done in a day or 2's time...hopefully will clear most ppls doubts....

Smile congrats! - 24-07-2005, 12:33 AM

hey vinod first of all congrats on getting ur visa. gr8 man u got it so early.... btw i need to ask u smthg abt visas since even i m goin to apply 4 d visas very soon.....
. when did u apply for the visa?how much time does it normally take?
. u got d visa for how many months. say for eg 12 mths/15 mths/21mths?
. have u given ur ielts b4 applying for d visa?coz i haven't as my counsellor said, i dont need to but i m still thinking of giving it coz its better to give ielts so tht d chances of gettin the visas r bit high.
. And if u havnt not given ielts b4 applying for d visas then in tht case did u face any problems in gettin ur visas?

rt now i m bit confused, whether to give ielts or not.so if u can help me out wth this nthin like tht.
anyways.....c ya

cheers
Aparna.

hey thanks aparna,

1) well i applied for visa last thursday and got it the very next day !!! (this is the general case for all, am not an exception here, so no need to worry.)

2) i got my visa upto 31/jan/2007 thts 16 months.

3) No i have not given my IELTS, see if you hav done ur entire education in English then it is not need at this STAGE to give a IELTS, u will get a visa, it is never rejected on that case if ur First language is english... in fact there is question on this in the visa form, And no i didnt face any problem whatsoever at any time, (dont worry u dont hav to face any Goras there..!!!)

By tomm night i will post the essential docs requid, and my exp on appl of visa, i suppose it shud clear most of ur doubts,

btw when do u plan to apply for the visa,

MOST IMP ADVICE: Get all ur docs in order before applying (i mean originals) !!!

cheers,

vinod.k
