Hi there,

Well i believe that of the schools u got into liverpool and cardiff are worth going for especially cardiff as its 5 rating school acording to the RAE rating 2001(the latest one), i think u can forget abt UWIC cause they didnt even submit their assesment to RAE, if u want further info pls let me know.

Also if this helps am gonna go to cardiff business school this year for my MBA prog, though its costly its definately worth it, i know a few guys who are with top consulting agencies after doing a finance from cardiff.

also if wanna go see the RAE ratings this is the site add http://www.hero.ac.uk/rae/

if ur in mumbai u can also go to edwise they might be able to give u more accurate insight, hope this info helps.

let me know if u need to know anything else.

cheers,

vinod.k

Hi Raj,

I myself got into MBA degree and plan to do a speci. in Finance and Mkt,
sorry dont know of anyone with a HR degree, but i think in general if u do an MBA degree from there u can sure expect more than 20K a month i wud say,
plus if u get a job there then its definately more than u can make here,
also can i know what ur working as now,and no. of yrs of work ex,
i ask this so that i can tell u fairly accurately abt ur possibilities

regards,

vinod.k

cardiff mba - 19-05-2005, 12:10 AM

hi vinod,
i am in the final stages of my BE in E&C and have been offered a job ny a leading software firm h/q at BANG. the offer was through placement at my coll and is for 17k. My job domain, if i were to join would be a software engg.
So do you think, this particular offer at cardiff would be better off.

Hi Raj,

Congrats on ur job man, so ur a fresher, let me tell u a few pros and cons on both the aspects on ur job and on ur getting an MBA in cardiff. Pls take it with a pinch of salt as it is only an individual assessment.

First on your job:

PROS:
1) U feel secure now as u r in line with many of your batch mates.
2) U might get a chance to go abroad or work on a good proj IF AND ONLY IF u prove to ur seniors ur too good at programming and stuff.
3) U will work for 1 yr or so and get into IIMs (ideal scenario), and its a WIN win situation.

CONS:
1) U might end up in a testing or a boring proj which most companies give to their freshers.
2) U might try ur hand at IIMs, XLRI, but not hav enuf time to read as the work load increases.
3) U might say to ur next time i will give the IIMs, but that next time might never come.
4) U will get into ur companies mgmt not before another 10yrs.

now on your MBA in CARDIFF:

PROS:
1) U might get into to a good firm in UK and start leading the life u wanted too.(though employment is hard to come but its not impossible.)
2) Your degree has a certain degree of respect when u come here, atleast more than what it wud be than if u had done from a second rung institues here.
3) U get international exposure, meet students from all arnd the world, stay with them, work with them, which according to me is a huge plus which even the IIMs cant give u.

CONS:
1) There is no concept of campus placement in UK or USA, only that firms come to the campus as a part of a overall placement fair, so u got to make the pitch there.
2) If u dont get emplyoment within 3 months time after grad u hav to come back to india and search from here, and definately u will get here but the salaries might not be as high as in UK. (but again way of life is high cost affair in UK)
3) The cost of tutuion, living is high and even prohibitive to most, so be sure what u want to do, why and when u will make up that cost.(easier said than done.)

Hope i hav not ended confusing u, pls weigh this pros and cons and if u want any more details regarding these and always here to provide them,

cheers,

vinod.

Yeah man am gonna go to cardiff this year gonna do my MBA (Full-time) there and most probably specialize in finance and marketing.

About getting to know abt cardiff, did a lot of R&D on studies in UK and then came to know abt cardiff, then i went to EDWISE international in Mumbai V.T, their representatives in india. Lucky for me my counsellor herself had done her studies in UK so she was able to guide me wonderfully.

Abt placement scene dude see my previous post, i know quite a few ppl (distant relatives , friend's friend and stuff) where they hav got into goldman sachs, citibank and other great institutes, but u hav got to take the intiative my friend.

Abt which course to take, it depends on u , if ur experienced in any field then u know for sure why u want it, but if ur like me a fresher then i wud rather go for a MBA degree than a specialisation as i hav limited knowledge of what is what.

Abt getting email ids i think it wud be better if u write to these institutes themselves and ask them for email ID of ppl from india who hav done these courses. If u need to know more u can also call up edwise if ur in mumbai, their agents deal with this day in and out so u can get some knowledge abt it there.
But i wud say u can decide between cardiff, Aston and Warwick, esp warwick has a 5 * rating in business studies.

hope this info helps.

cheers,

vinod
