Thank you for expressing interest to our MBA program and attending our selection interview. The Admissions Committee has completed its review of your application for admission to our MBA 2008 intake. Despite your many merits as a candidate, we regret to inform that we would be unable to consider your application for admission this year.

Your application has been carefully evaluated by our Admission Committee on various criteria particularly the following: work experience, career objectives, academic and extra curricular profile, leadership and interpersonal skills. The review has been done based upon an evaluation of your individual strengths and weaknesses, as well as your qualifications relative to those of other applicants.

Please note that this decision is not a reflection of your personal qualities and achievements or your potential for success in management, but merely a reflection of the limited number of seats in the class. Should you have further queries, you may wish to write to bizrrpq@nus.edu.sg

You are strongly encouraged to re-apply next year. Kindly note your current application id. This is to ease the process of retrieving your supporting documents should you decide to re-apply.

We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours, and thank you for applying to NUS MBA program.

Re: Anyone for NUS Singapore? - 26-06-2008, 08:10 PM

i wonder why nus invited me for interview with my low gmat score... that interview gave me false sense of hope and I wasted some time waiting for 'lucky' outcome. I knew I had to re-take gmat because it was a low score and I know I can do much better in math to go above 600 easily..

I'll take my revenge for rejection from NUS by working hard on GMAT and then will apply to NUS and NTU and uppon admission offer I will reject them... Their ranking sliped out of top 100 and is going sink more with new SINGAPORE MANAGEMENT UNIVERSITY. I visited SMU campus and believe me it is really impressive. The mba director is x-insead director and they are all set to go NUMBER ONE. Only problem is their high fees, S$49K for Full Time and S$54K for part-time.

They are heavily marketing themselves here in singapore and are trying to position as elite mba school... faculty and program is really impressive.. undergrad are already getting top salaries...

So guys mark my words SMU is going to be number MBA program in Asia...

I am one of those who applied for NUS and got the reject mail after the long harrowing wait.

Had replied to their mail thus:

=====================
Thanks for the intimation.

But I should say that the admission process of yours is shoddy and long-drawn.
Any aspiring school should expect a 'large' number of applications. Citing this as the reason you have made me wait for quite a long time which was totally unexpected and harrowing.

I am sorry to say this, but I will definitely stay away from the idea of applying to NUS again for this reason and discourage people from doing so too.
I really had thought good about NUS but my experience with you has proved otherwise.

Even a month back I had decided that I will not accept even if you offer me a seat and I rued my decision to apply to NUS.
=====================

Earlier I had found the admission process of Univ of Oxford (SBS) very clean and prompt.
I had secured an admission there but could not make it for want of funds.

The learnings that I have from the last year's application process of mine are:

1. Choose the schools based on not only your aspirations but also your background
2. Try to give your best for the essays - produce something that reflects who you are honestly and at the same time elegantly and optimistically
3. The timing of the applications matter a lot

I've decided to focus on schools in US (and maybe Europe like IE, RSM, etc)which I had not done last year and have begun researching the schools.

I wish all the guys in this forum success and happiness.

N.

Hay sorry to hear that. Actually i thought you guys were in with a chance since you were not part of the mass rejection in the first week of june.

So did you also send NUS a stinker mail. It sure is unprofessional on their part to make a candidate sweat for so long.

I wonder if this how they teach us to make decision in business in the real world. Cmon, how long does it take to evaluate a candidate. you either want him or you dont. you cant sit on the fence for donkeys. The fact that they put us on the fence means they want us only if other deserving candidates dont want them. so in effect we get treated like second class citizens.

Wells so long as it continues to be a suppliers market they can afford to throw their weight around.

So megha mehta wat are your plans next. and any news from april2007

Thanks Bosvin.
My focus last year was to avoid being out of work for 2 years.

So I had applied to Oxford, Cambridge, NUS , Nanyang and INSEAD.
Got the admit only in Oxford.
My biggest mistakes were:
- not so forceful essays - due to lack of focus (except Oxford for which I worked for weeks and produced a thought-provoking one)
- timing of the applications - I applied to Oxford in Round 1 and all others on Round 2 and Round 3.

My profile:
GMAT : 770 (taken on Aug 07)
Experience: IT - 5.5 years
Would be focus: Technology management , General Management

This year I have decided to go for a 2 year MBA - because I feel I need some time to experiment and find my true calling. The basis on which I am going to select the schools is to see from their student profile on the percentage from engineering and from their campus placements on the percentage opting strategy/tech consulting and technology mgmt domains.
That way if you see, my choice of schools last year were a bit skewed. Maybe I should focus on schools like the 'Best in IT' ones that are listed by Financial Times - the likes of Tepper, Haas, Sloan, IE, Stanford, etc).

If any of you have the same kind of requirements or profile, please let me know.
Or if there are any threads specifically for IT to MBA people, please do let me know too.
Or we shall start one.

well godhead almost every second person wanting to do an mba is from an IT background so dont worry you wil surely find many pals. I will forward you links in case i do come across any IT specific threads.

You seem to have done your research well for schools this time around. and since you've been thru the application process once, you should be able to apply in the 1st round itself at each college. Wish you al the best and do let us know how things go

Adios,

Jose.

Hi all,

I would like to highlight to you that getting into your dream business school is only a beginning. To maximize your learnings, you need to plan ahead too.

There are plenty of learning opportunities during your MBA study. For e.g. business plan competitions, writing competitions, international conferences, leadership opportunities, overseas exchange, mission trips etc.

Good luck!

Kind regards,
Thomas

Hello everyone. I am planning to apply to NUS this year. I have 5 years exp and a GMAT of 700. Could you please let me know what chances I have? How are the placements in NUS for IT Sector? Also does the interview happen in Singapore alone or there is an option for telephonic interview as well(say for aspirants in USA)?

I am sorry if this question has been answered earlier...Thanks for your help
