So giving all Waitlist candidates a decision in one shot sounds like a inefficient way to utilize all the resource they have. They may offer seat to 10 Waitlist guys, reject 40 and then 7 out of 10 reject NUS offer ( NUS is already very late in admission process).

Perhaps a better approach would be to prepare a priority list of waitlist candidates and provide decision to higher rated people in advance.

I understand you have just deciphered from what you heard but if this is the actual process of NUS, I am disappointed !!
totally agree with the fact that their process has not been upto the mark... they in fact mention "rolling admissions" on website which is not the case... and i intend to speak to adcom about it when I go ther and also give them suggestions to improve it from nxt year...

By the way, where did you get the info that the current class size is 116?? acc to my interaction of seniors it was close to 135 last year and should be 150 this year.. and i also rmbr them mentioning 150 seats for the batch starting Aug 2008 during NUS MBA fair in mumbai....

regarding late, i would say that diff schools have diff deadlines... so you cannot judge them to be late... they have their cycles and it differs from school to school... if you think NUS is late in that respect, i m afraid i dont agree wid you... SBS (Oxford) is accepting applicants for its October batch till June - and mind you that this is submission of application and not interview - now, how late is that???

Appreciate your intentions to contribute to NUS Admission process. Should I convert my waitlist and decide to come to NUS, count me in for that.

My info on class size is based on interactions with some of the current students. This year they have mentioned 150 and it needs to be seen how much they finally take in.

Understandably the timelines of SBS defy my statement. Ofcourse there will be schools with admission rounds later than May, however looking at larger picture when a candidate decides to apply to B-schools he will be proactive and will apply to 4-5 B-Schools in first/second rounds. Thereafter if he/she converts one or two and is on waitlist on one, he may have pay huge amount to secure to seat and therefore decide to stay there.
Second example could be of ISB. It's session has already started. I do not intend to say that no one on waitlist may accept the NUS Admit. Ofcpurse NUS is a great school and I am in race for it.

Still I feel they have been erroneous in the process and lot needs to fixed in there admission process.

regarding the notificaion - they will still notify you if you have been dinged thru e-mail. The cut off day for batch starting in August 2008 is May 29, by which they will decide the fate of all applicants

hope this helps

p.s. whats your profile?
Hi Jaimin,

My profile is as follows

Guys does that mean the current class size is 116 and that they're targetting 150? That shld be pretty gd news!

I am guessing NUS is not very late in the application process cos the other major player in Singapore NTU will have its interviews going on until June....

@april2007

there is no doubt that the admission process is flawed but then cylces are all part of individual schools... as megha said, Nanyang's interview will go on till june and the academic year starts in july... so you cannot blame school for that... worst come worst it will not get quality students...

acc to me, ISB is trying to get the best of indian students since it knws that once the student has an admit it wont go shopping wid other offers coz the student has to pay up in 15 days... ISB's intake shld be classified as spring intake as compared to fall intake in rest of the world.... so the cycles are different... nonetheless comparisons are bound to happen and the argument can go on forever...

@megha

not sure what april2007 meant... but yes, the current batch of students will be close to 150 students... and adcom will not be stupid enough not to extend offers to the waitlisted candidates if it falls very short of class size...

@others

hope i m not being too preachy here... and in no ways supporting my potential almameter ...

i m trying to be rational and do point out if show undue affection for NUS

Below is quote from Richard's reply last week-

"... As we are reviewing over 5000 applications, we do seek for your patience and understanding on this matter. Kindly be informed that we are reviewing each application thoroughly, and we shall definitely get back to you once we have firmed up the decision as to the next step of your application. I do apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Do let me know should you need any further clarification. Thank you and have a pleasant day ahead..."

If they are reviewing each appl 'thoroughly', they have big work on their hand. My guess is once they have prioritised the applications, things should move much faster. So for my peace of mind, I have decided to sit back and relax rather than fume at NUS for their inefficiency et al. Cheers!

I submitted my app in mid march and haven't heard any thing yet.

My profile
GMAT - 740
Work Ex 4 yrs Aerospace + Post graduation (M.Tech)
Acads - good
EC - decent

As for the gut feel...look at it from NUS's point of view...They know how many seats are left to be filled..They must be looking at the profiles that best fill their expectations and then give a call....I think we just need to be patient but also work on a backup...

I buy your assertions as well of megha and others. Patience is a key element to pursue any B-school application process starting right from your analysis of the school to writing the essays again n again to preparing relentlessly for the interview. Every person present on this forum has gone through those stages and can be considered among top 1% patient people on this planet.

At the same time, I am of the opinion that things do not get better by running them under carpet. Any negative comment about the school or the admission process can be taken in two ways : Plain negative comments or constructive criticism intended to help improve.

Jaimin, if you intend to participate in the school admission process and help it make better, I think it would worthwhile for you to take a note of people who have feedback to give, validate their claims , and then decide upon course of action you may introduce. How much does it help if everyone says "We will be patient" ?

And when I said NUS is bit late, I meant to compare NUS with other schools to which candidates will apply while applying to NUS. SO if some applied to NUS in Dec or Jan and applied to other schools at the same time, it's more likely they have the decision from other schools now. Ofcourse, many schools have rounds left but our focus here is the people who are still waiting for NUS decision and applied in Dec or Jan.

@All,
I don't intend to sound idealistic here and nor do I intend to start a debate. I simply believe that diversity in each one of us, who are facing different circumstances, when brought together would form a better collective viewpoint rather than running things under the carpet.

yes in that sense - it is late... totally agree.... its admission process is not upto the mark - will give u two examples

1) a guy who has applied in mid december in 1st deadline is interviewed in mid march and is still waiting for final decision - which is definitely late
2) a student who has applied in early feb gets a convert by end march

which acc to me is not fair for students... and especially when website quiotes "rolling admissions"

i had applied in end november thinking i wld be interviewed at a local MBA fair in 12st week of december.. but no luck... i was interviewed in 1st week of Feb and re-interviewed (seems like i was the only applicant to be interviewed twice) in 3rd week of Feb and finally an admit at end of Feb... this is a decent process for me but then most of the applicants have not faced same of kind of smooth process...

@April2007 - i shall definitely collate feedback and give it to the adcom..
