Hi-Tech MBA - 30-12-2004, 09:17 AM

Hi all,

I am currently working in the semi-conductor industry and by the time I start applying to b-schools I will have had alteast 2 years of work-ex (or even more, depending on when I decide to go for it) I will have had sufficient technical expertise (), in addition to plenty of internation exposure.

Now I'd like to know if there is any MBA program that caters to a high-tech industry like the semiconductor industry. I would like to do an MBA in marketing but a traditional marketing program would involve marketing of consumer products, brand-building et al which doesnt have much relevance in the industry I am in right now. I'd like a program that deals more with product/market development and marketing strategies for hi-tech industries.

If anyone has any information about this and is willing to share, I'd be most grateful.

thanks

the freak

SDM@MIT is damn freaking expensive though

I would suggest you look closely at some courses that CMU has to offer.

It's MIT's System and Design Management program. You can either complete it as a full-time 13-month on–campus program or as a part-time 24 month distance program. But the tuition fees itself for the 13month on-campus course is a $54,000 !! Mere toh aukaad ke bahaar hai. But still if you want to know more you can check it here : http://lfmsdm.mit.edu/sdm/

Ok, so does any know something about the Master of engineering management degree that some schools offer ? I've heard that its a 1-yr course. I'd like to know if its worth doing that course, and the prospects after doing it.

Also does anyone know about the top-ranked schools (or any rankings for schools) that offer degrees (or dual degrees) in technology-related or engineering-related management ?

thanks and regards,

the freak

U have the url. If you click around, it has a list of current students and their contacts. Why dont you write to them and post here what they have to say.

Do you think I haven't done that? (and I will surely post the replied once I get them)...... but I have really found very smart people here on the forum who have loads of info regarding various b-skools across the globe.....so thought that it won't harm if I post it here simultaneously....

Ketan
BTW: Even replies from the b-skool student are biased sometimes.... ain't we have lots of heated discussion on the forum about some or the other b-skool... or for that matter the XL-scandal (an act of hiding)...and so on
