Hi Ranjit, Dushyant and other friends,
I am currently looking for mngmt options in UK.
* One thing i am always confused about, which is good, MBA or MSc (RoI/Placement wise ). What are the approx fees for MBA and MSc. My Budget is 10-12 L approx
* Is MSc considered == to MBA in India (just in case  )
* My profile is:
10th CBSE : 80%
12th CBSE : 78%
BTech (CS): 72%
C-DAC(Bangalore): 76%
Work Ex: Currently i am working as a software engineer (approx 10 month as of now).
Pls suggest me which universities and courses (MBA/MSc) should i target. I can not take chances because my present pckg is decent enough and u guys would agree that leaving a good job is always a hard decision (age/financial instablity/ageing parents other factors come into play).
* I heard that there is no such thing as 'campus placements' and one has attend job fairs. Please tell me how easy/tuf it is to get a job in UK (in comparision with the present Job market in India).
* i can't leave my work till MID of sept 2005. What r my admission options. should i go for fall 2005 / jan 2006 / fall 2006
* i gave TOEFL way back in Jan 2003 and scored 283/300. The score expired this year jan. Can i cite it to get an exemption from giving TOEFL
Please help me out guys, it's a big decision and i don't know much about UK. So, kindly give detailed answers. Particularly, give me the univ listing.
Thank u
Aseem

hey ppl
soorry for being away. i see that a lot of activity has been taking place here.
guys, MSc is definatelya good option. however only if done from a school ofrepute.
some guidelines that i cud suggest to u ppl:
1. apply to all the 5 and 5* rated schools in the uk. u can get the details on the net. ask me for a list if u cant find it. sometimes the university might not be well known, but the school is highly valued.
2. make atleast one dreamy application. the likes of lbs, lse. dreamy i say because of the cost. i wud def not suggest spending above 18 lakh for an msc. save that up in case u wanna do an mba later.
3. as soon as u join ur school, lookout for jobs. companies like pwc, accentur, siemens etc do have graduate trainees. they dont ask for too much. ur on a training for 1 or 2 yrs and are then placed somewhere. keep ur eyes open.
someone here gave the example of finding a job within 4 months of joining. i strongly beleive it is a good example of someone who had stayed focussed and extremely on the lookout. thats the way to go.
can u plz give us the details of ur friends who got jobs after msc from warwick, manchester etc? post their profile if u can.
4. do keep in mind that ur primary aim wud be to pay off that loan u have.
ill post more later. plz continue to hep each other out, so we all can maybe have a great futre.!

Re: One Year Courses In Management (USEFUL AND EFFECTIVE) -

hiii guys r u aware of bim bangalore chapter??its a 1 yr course and first batch is underway.so no placements data.
i need all of urs advice.i have got confirmed seat in icfai gurgaon and have paid 30k for it too so its confirmed.
bt im considering biom bangalore as its a 1 yr course so shorter turnaround time.
the concern is no placements to falls back upon and unlike gr8 lakes or isb thr's no buzzzz abt this institute despite being from bim.no international faculty etc-looks a pretty half hearted attempt from bim.
my profile:
bcom hons grad 2004,calcutta univ
10-78
12-66
grad-50
work ex-2 yrs in IT marketing(hardware)
1.5 yrs in BPO(banking)
am intrested in marketing specialisation- mainly in finan services/banking secotr-Marketing and also maybe bpo's in managerial profiles.
bim is reputed for finance right?
seniors from bim since u must be having idea abt the bangalore chapter and u have my profile and aspiration,i hope u can advice me wethr to stick to icfai which has good placements in banking/bpo sector or go for bim bangalore.
looking forward for guidance
abhishek

Hey guys,
I'm new to pagalguy but i'm expecting some help from you guys.
I'm also into applyin for the 1 year Mgmnt Courses in UK this september fall. But i'm very unsure about the prospects post-degree (in terms of jobs and work visa) Well after reading this thread posts, it gave me a sigh of confidence in applying them. Is it too late to apply by this time? Unsure of which universities to apply, so that i might not end spending some lacs for worthless degree...What scores are required, IELTS, TOEFL..? And how much really does it makes a difference with an MBA degree?
My profile :
Engineering 64%
No work Experience
What are my chances of getting admits?
Please reply <dushmya, aseem, malwajatt, ...etc need your help guys >

Re: One Year Courses In Management (USEFUL AND EFFECTIVE) -

hey PG
first and foremost im really very sorry for being so very irregular with my posts! i have been a constant reader but somehow dont post that often! (naa dont call me sell fish!)
neways......
i was just in my 2nd year when i had startted this post. now im about to enter 4th yr at college. and let me tell you, things have changed!
these one year courses are extremely usefull. however, there is a catch! they are only effective if u do them from a very good univ. no average univs here!
apart from a good univ, what is important is ur profile. as far as the uk is concerned, i dont think any univ (other than ox, cam, LSE) wud look at ur acads VERY eriously. their sole requirement is an upper 2nd class degree or better. that translates to 60% approx. the rest depends upon ur GMAT. yes, i knopw that these coures do not require a gmat, but submitting a GMAT wud certainly enhance ur chances.
the third and i think THE most important factor is: WORK EXPERIENCE
yes guys. i know its not a requirement. still. more than 18 months of work x wud not only boost ur chances of admission, it wud also increase ur job prospects after u graduate! ask anyone in the UK or even in the US today.. someone with work ex is always preffered and that too a large extent in the uk. infact we can see the same trend catching up in india too.. all the 90 lakh salaries u hear from IIM's are for ppl who have both quality and quantity of ork ex behind them!
id like to invite views on the last factor. moderators, and pagals. i for example have an offer from infosys currently. wouldnt my applicatoin be much more effective if a show 20 months of work ex at a top firm like infy?
please continue sending reactions!

hi dushyant,
that was a good input. since i'm really new to the univs in UK, what would be good univs like...? what about coventry, leeds, aston, bradford, stirling...
what are my chances, since i dont have work x, and when i met the representatives from bradford uni in the mba fair, she told that i have a fair chance since i'm from an engineering background..? is it so, how far will it help?
any inputs from other guys too...
thanks
