@preeti,

Sorry to say but 580 is not a very good score. I would advise taking the GMAT
again and try scorng over 650. If you want a shot at top 20 schools you would
need a score close to 700. It will be very difficult to get aid with your GMAT
score.

You can talk to schools and some might accomodate you in their R2 even if you GMAT
is a little late. I had a friend who did something like that. Many students get
admitted in R3 too. A stronger application in R3 has a better chance of making in
than a weak R1 application.

@varma
Babson babson babson!! It is a great school for e-ship and is in Boston. This should
be your top school. Are you planning to go back home right after your MBA? This
will help me give you a better list of schools.

Anshul

Hi Anshul,

You are definitely doing a great service. I have applied in R1 for KFBS.

Here goes my profile:
GMAT-720 Q-51,V-36
Work Ex- Engineering Services - 3.5 years with focus on cost reduction through Value Engineering
Academics: Very Good (State Merit Holder)
Extra Curriculars - Good
Community Service - Good
UNC Interview- Average (JulieW took my int)
Interested in Management Consulting

I was wondering if I can make it through to KFBS with this profile and an average intv? If we take the intv part apart, were there any real chances of some sort of scholarships with my profile? I can send you my resume if required.

Thanks,
Nitin

@varma,

yes you can make it to Babson. You have a good chance.

@Nitin,

I made it with 710 and 2 yrs of work ex. You should be fine. The real question is, is UNC the right school for your goals?

Anshul

Re: Ask Anshul - 08 admit taking MBA related Qs - 17-11-2009, 07:14 PM

Hi Anshul,

My GMAT score is 640(Q 48,V29).
I worked for CapGemini UK Ltd @ Telford for 4+ yrs. I have Sun Certifications in Java/J2ee areas.

SCJP: 82%
SCWCD:62%
SCBCD:97%

Don't know whether they add any value to apply to a B-school.

My academic profile is as follows:

B.tech: 81%
Intermediate: 88%
10th: 81%

what are my chances for B-schools that are in the top 35. I know I cannot make into top 15 for this low GMAT score.But is it possible to secure an admission in any of the B-schools that are ranked b/w 15-35.

I am open to do either a 2 yrs course or 1 yr as long as the B-school is good.Looking for no career shifts.Wanted to continue in the same IT domain.

Would you be able to help me?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ask Anshul - 08 admit taking MBA related Qs - 18-11-2009, 12:36 AM

Hi Anshul,
I am Gaurav Sharma. My profile is below
GMAT- 730 Q- 50(93%) V- 38 (83%) AWA- 5.5
Toefl- 109
GPA- 8.33 / 10 from NIT Bhopal, India (One of the best universities in India)
Class X- 87%
Class XII- 89%
Awarded by school for 5 A grades + 99% in Mathematics in class XII.
Work Experience : 2 years + 2 months (By Fall 2010) In Global Computer Consultancy Firm- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Got an early promotion due to good performance. Working on APPLE Project. Team Leader of Database Team since May-2009. Best Employee of the month - TWICE. Stay in Apple project extended due to client willingness.
Extra-Curricular:
College: Lot of activities-- Organizing Events such as Fashion Shows, LAN Gaming Events. Won 1st Prize in Cricket Tournament (Inter City). Organized technical quizzes too. Class Representative of Computer Science Branch in 2nd Year of college.
After College: a)Community Service- member of NGO since June 2009. Basically involving children(underprivileged) . Counselling them and teaching them.(3-4 hours per week).
b) TCS Social Community- Blood Donation Camps, Children Days Celebrations.
c) Organized Fashion Show at TCS also at Family day.
I am planning to apply to the following schools. Can you tell me my chances.
a) Duke
b) UCLA
c) Rochester (Simon)- Re-applicant
d) Boston School of Management
e) Tepper-CMU
f) Georgetown Mcdonough
g) Rotman- Canada
h) Penn State (Smeal)

I want to shift into strategic consulting. Basically its career switch from IT to Strategic Consulting. I am good at analyzing situations and finding multiple perspectives for a given problem at hand. As I am from an engineering background, through out which I developed good Problem Solving and Analytical Skills, also I am good at mathematics and statistics so i ll be a good fit in the class. If everything persists then in the long run I want to start my own global consulting firm (Provided money is there and I make good progress).

If you need any other information for evaluating my profile then please do ask. I think I have a weakness as in Quantity of Work Experience but if quality is considered then for an International Client like Apple and an early promotion and an year long Leadership experience does cover for less number of work experience? What say??

Can you tell me what are my reasonable chances in my short listed universities, as in safe bet, perfect match, with in reach and Ambitious, considering my profile.

Thanks a lot in advance.
