ISB-CONNECT,

It will be nice if you can give an update on the latest placement scene for the ISB-2009 graduates.

Given the massive increase in the intake this year, how does ISB plan to deal with the placement situation for the batch graduating in 2010, particularly given the kind of job market that exists at present?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I want to know about the sort of activities the various student clubs(esp Business Technology Club and Sales and Marketing club) at ISB are involved in.

1.What I understand is they organise various seminars on the respective functional/domain areas...or are there things other than seminars that
they are involved in?

2.Can a student be involved in any club of his interest, irrespective of the electives/area of specialisation he chooses?

3.Does the students get involved in the clubs from the start of the academic process or does the club formation and activities start after a few terms?

Other option is to shift your field; people do choose careers in marketing, finance and consulting. But shifting field requires additional work as you have to develop an understanding, although ISB provides enough opportunities for the same through different programs such as ELP, FIRP etc..

Whats FIRP?...I guess I missed out on it on website/info session...
Can you please explain that

Thanks in advance

Every student gets alloted an alum mentor in the field of his choice, alum come for regular interactive sessions called Open houses, an initiative of the school, and there are opportunities to shadow alumns in their work places. In addition the normal means - e-mails, phone etc. are also used. The current batch has easy and ready access to the contacts of alumns from all previous batches. Lastly, the grand finale is the annual event Solistice (check out ISB website for details)
Hi, do guys looking for concentration in Finance also get allotted an alum mentor? Wow, this sounds such a nice idea!

I have the following query

Picking up from your reply to one of the queries, you mentioned that for somebody considering a field shift to consulting, it requires an extra effort to understand the industry and train oneself according. I request you to kindly elaborate the ways in which ISB facilitates such a change for it's students.

From the website I could learn that the following programs / features of the ISB MBA program do facilitate such a change
1. Experimental Learning Programme
2. Global Consulting Parcticum
3. The team based learning model
4. The various conferences, seminars & workshops
5. The Consulting Club

Have I made a correct assessment? Have I made a comprehensive analysis of the ways in which an ISB MBA facilitates a field shift to consulting?

Thanks in advance
Hi shimmering.star,
Yes you have made a good and comprehensive assessment, I would like to add that these things are valued by the industry and companies.

2. There are other areas that are shaping global economy apart from banking/insurance; no doubt these two are fasted amongst all, what efforts ISB is taking to induct participants from these areas like general managment, strategy, manufacturing?
Hi zulu_enz,
answers are as follows
1. See the diversity in batch is a replica of diversity in application ISB gets so if 40% of application are from IT background than the batch will also have same percent of students in the batch (roughly). And looking at the past few years of Indian growth which if primarily fueled through ITES it is apparent to have lot of applications from this domain. But it in itself has lot of functional diversity.

2. ISB has different professional clubs to prepare students for the need of these areas and also it offer variety of electives to learn nuances.

The placements for 2009 batch were complete around 2 months ago.
Please visit Placements,Full Time Post Graduate Programme in Management - Indian School of Business (ISB) for complete details. there is complete breakup and analysis available for 2009 placements.

Regarding the 2010 batch , we are seeing very positive response from companies since the market is picking up fast.In a normal economy ISB doesnt really need to do anything to place a 560 students batch. Every year before 2009, a huge number of companies tried to visit ISB for placements but they were refused simply because there wasn't anybody available for them.

Vishal

hi NOTHING1954,

Placement figures for the year 2009 can be found out at Placements,Full Time Post Graduate Programme in Management - Indian School of Business (ISB)

While world economy follows a cyclic nature, the demand for top notch management graduates is always there. Markets are unpredictable and fickle. Hence decisions to increase the batch size are not taken considering just the market cycles. ISB Hyderabad campus was designed for around 560 students. So the decision to increase the intake was not a recent decision but was planned right from the time ISB was conceived.
