Re: New! [2009] ISB Hyderabad official thread: Admissions Director Dr VK Menon answer - 06-11-2009, 09:47 AM

Dear Dr. Menon

I need your help in clearing my doubts about how ISB looks at GMAT score.
I gave GMAT recently and managed to get 710.I have good past academic record:
CBSE 10th 88%, 12th 91%
B Tech. from IT-BHU (05 batch) CGPA 8.7/10 (Consistently DIR 2 in my branch)
Also I have won many scholarships and awards ,in several All India Level Competitions, during my school times.

1) Does ISB look at GMAT score in combination with past academic performances to judge a candidate's analytical ability or is the score looked upon in isolation ?

2) Is the answer to the above question different if I represent a highly competitive pool of applicants i.e. from IT sector? I have been working for past 3 years in the technology division of a top notch investment bank and have managed to get high performance rating consistently.

3) Would you recommend me in such a scenario to notch up my GMAT score by few more points to be more competitive for ISB ?

Thank you Sir for your time.Your guidance would be valuable to me in deciding my future course of action.

Hi Dr.Menon ,
I have scored a 710 in my GMAT and had a CGPA of 7.0 out of 10 in my Electrical Engineering from IT-BHU.I have scored 90% and 85 % in SSC and HSC.
I have a work experience of 31 months in Deloitte Consultancy and I have excellent recommendations from a Vice President and an on shore Client team manager.I am not too happy with my score and i am thinking of not applying for class of 2011.Please let me know if i should retake the GMAT to notch up a score of 750+ .Looking forward to your response.

Dear Mr. Menon,
My company is interested in sponsoring me for the one year program starting next year. I am an international candidate. However, there is no such precedence in my company. Can you please answer the following questions to for clarification on this subject?

1) What is needed in the letter at the time of submitting the application?
2) Does the company pay the fees directly to ISB? If yes, what are the documents and terms of payment? Or does the company reimburse the student directly?
3) What are the terms that bind the sponsored student to return to the employer? Are the terms of agreement exclusively between the student and the sponsor or does ISB have to do anything with it?

If my company has more questions, what is the official email address to write to?

Thanks
Sankar

Hello Sir,

I have a small query.....Can we mention the professional certifications such as NCFM,Microsoft etc. in the awards/achievements section? Or they should be mentioned in the professional achievements?

Please suggest.

Thanks&Regards
Kunal

Hi,

I need a little clarification on the eligibility for applying for ISB.
My profile:
X[ICSE Board] : 76.8%
XII : 97.8%
B.E. 72.4%
Work Exp. : 20 Months in IT Sector.

Am I eligible to apply for ISB??[Although i heard that the minimum exp. required is 2 Years]
And How much weightage is given to :
X ,XII and B.E. Percentages apart from GMAT Score??

Thanks,
Uday

you need to be complete two years as on April 2010. there is weightage which is given to the academic scores but we would not be able to comment on the percentages of the same. a lower acad score means that you would need to bolster it by a above average GMAT score and higher scores in interview.
