Re: IIM Lucknow-IPMX 2010-11: Admission Process and Beyond - 26-07-2009, 07:32 PM

I have been reading posts on this and many other threads like this one about how the program is "pathetic" and how the IIMs or for that matter Indian MBA schools are not par with other schools etc..

First, I believe IIMs have established themselves very well. Second, the alumnus have been accepted in the industry across india and world. so I prefer not to doubt on the achievements/ capability of school...rather try to find out whether that school is a match for my goals, for which I am planning to pursue MBA...

I personally believe none of these schools (including IIMs) are "begging" anyone to apply for their program..whoever applies to this program would be evaluated. Then, if expectations (of both school and the applicant) are matched then one would pursue MBA at that school..

I prefer to keep my discussion about 'how to apply' to the school... and not to ' how and why not to apply to school'...I believe the information given publicly by IIM-L should be sufficient to decide whether the school fits your interest (including placements)..if you are really interested in getting the information (like placements etc.) one can get the questions clear at the time of interview directly through the admission/ interview panel...so one does not have to bother about the 'authenticity' of the message.. if your questions are genuine you should not be afraid of asking them even to interview panel..

Hope I do not start a new string of vehement discussions..

IIML have not compromised on this avg exp requirement of 6 years in the past and I do not see that happening this year either. Thanks.

I apologize for the late response. IPMX was busy with their term exams and is now in Montreal, Canada for their International Immersion Module for 4 weeks.

As far as your profile is concerned, it looks good and a good overall application with clarity of thoughts should be competitive.

Thanks.

The profile is good enough for application, on the face of it - you already know that there are other facets that shall be evaluated.

BTW, single-company-experience and that happens to be Infy == we do have few of them in our batch.

Re: IIM Lucknow-IPMX 2010-11: Admission Process and Beyond - 01-08-2009, 08:40 PM

Guys let me end this speculation about placements and the debate about IPMX vis-a-vis other similar programmes. I am a student of first batch of IPMX and joined with lot of aspirations and very much impressed with the aura around IIMs. First the placements - It was pathetic and what rajesh FC says is correct. By the time we paased out on 2nd April 2009 only 8 students were placed out of 45. Out of that also 2 guys managed jobs from outside the campus. Out of the 6 placed through campus only 2 guys joined as for other 4, offers were not good enough. Only one company visited campus and other 3 conducted interviews through video conferencing and it was not exclusively for IIML-Noida campus. The saving grace was that about 60% of the class was on sabbatical and it was kind enough of the employers that barring 1 or 2 others were taken back on the rolls though not necessarily with higher salary or promotion. Those who could not land a job because they had resigned were in real soup and struggled for almost 3 months and ultimately joined wherever they could for survival. Recession of course played a major but we would blame it had IIML authorities performed their role in placement. Placecom made huge effort including giving presentations to more than 120 companies but it was purely student driven and the concerned prof from IIML participated in only 3 or 4 presentations inspite of repeated requests. the general thinking among the faculty barring 2 or 3 was that brand IIML will be enough to attract the companies. As for contacts of faculty with the industry only one prof could bring 1 company while all others failed miserably including the Director. There was no help from the main campus to the extent that the placecom chairman at main campus told us categorically that he would rather resign than help Noida campus in placements. I hope that authorities learn from mistakes and these things are not repeated for the 2nd batch.
About the learning at IIML for experienced guys, it is much better as compared to the placements but the aura surrounding IIMs is far too much. In this aspect they are no match for IITs. Much about it later.
