Hi Guys;

I recently joined a Int. MBA program in US. If you have IT or Eng degree and want 1 yr MBA you should try for Case Western Reserve. Im not going to Case now but many people have told me how good of 1 yr program it is for Eng and IT industry people. I have heard of many students receiving good placements after graduation because of excellent professional networks at Weatherhead. I wish I have gone there...

Re: 1 year MBA options - 02-06-2008, 09:40 AM

Hi anujwilson;

Good question. Abroad, 1-year MBAs are often called "Executive MBAs". Technically, to be accepted into an Executive MBA requires more real-world experience than a regular MBA program. However, the term "Executive" is a bit misleading. I believe that three years of IT experience may qualify you for some of these programs. Here are a few good schools to look at:

Cranfield University: MBA - I've heard that the Managing Information Technologies program at Cranfield is very good

MIT: MBA - For obvious reasons, MIT is great for IT. However, I'm not sure if they offer a 1-year MBA

Carnegie Mellon: MBA – Carnegie offers a 16 month accelerated MBA. And they are very well regarded in IT

Case Western Reserve University: Executive MBA - I agree with the comments from Intent above. Case Western offers a magnificent MBA in Management Information Systems. I think their program can actually be tailored to the type of career you want to pursue within the IT industry (such as project management, IT consulting, financial analysis, etc).

University of Texas at Austin: Executive MBA - UT has a good program in Information Management. Generally speaking, UT's MBA is regarded quite highly

I hope this helped a bit,

I am HariPrasad and i am currently doing my mba at SMOT Business School. The founder Dr.Narasimhan has played an important role in starting the institutions like Great Lakes and he has been a part of many other institutions.The institute has world renowed faculty and you can have a look at the following link for more details Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Permanent Faculty. We have 4 permanent faculty and many visiting faculty from various industries.

SMOT offers 12 months program named as PGPM4T3 and 16 motnhs program named PGPM4T4. There is difference in the course content , the only difference between the two course is the time line.It has MOU with St Marys university ,Canada which is one among the top universities at canada.

The SMOT campus is in perungudi,chennai.Its a new campus and 25% of course will be taken by foreign lectures from Canada through the MOU with CAMC, Canada. The average work experience of the current 12 months program PGPM4T3'08 batch is 30 months.

SMOT offers Finance, Marketing and IT & operations as specializations. We have students from diverse backgrounds like Banking,IT,BPO,Hospitality,FMCG etc.. The students must take GMAT / CAT. If the students have not taken any of these exams , they must appear for SMOT Entrance Exam.

Days at SMOT are superb! We do have frequent chill out sessions where we can interact with professors.We have frequent guest lectures from CEO's to middle level managers. We have forums and blogs. It can be viewed from the following link SMOT Board - Index students are from various companies like TCS, Wipro, ICICI Bank ,SSS , Tero Technology, ITC ,Verizon , Accenture , Infosys and many others.SMOT's has a career vertical super specialization.

The credits you gain at SMOT,can be used to do an EMBA at Sobey School Of Business,Canada which is one of the top b-schools in canada. The course is most suited for experienced professionals and with in a short span of time SMOT has emerged to greater heights because of the course value and the management's candid approach.

I am sure that SMOT will play an important role in changing the mode of management learning !
