Hello
simplytruth,
The course does not cost you 40 lacs. it costs 17.5 lacs as of now. As many PG members have said, it is not how you spend on these studies that count. These can give you a new lease of life in middle - senior management depending on potential, skill sets and experience. But the way thereon purely depends on your genuine efforts.
IIM mba is just like a powerful vitamin supplement but not a life saving drug to depend on.
The real reasons for which i "WANT TO DO THIS AT ANY COST" are :
1. Find a better profile in front end - Citibank, JPChase,Standard Chartered Trade-Finance departments.
2. Expecting a good placement
3. Excellent pay packet.
4. Mother of all reasons - The brand value and esteem that an IIM degree carries.
I do not believe in uttering unrealistic reasons such as i want to learn managerial skills from reputed institute such as IIM or to gain confidence to take up my new role. Few things cannot be learned from books as qualities are evolved within a human depending on the surroundings and consequent thought process. Hardly any of the successful bigwigs in banking industry or any other industry for that matter are not MBA s from ivy league schools, but subject matter experts that have niche on job qualifications ,burning desire to continuously learn, open mindedness and love challenges.
Hence the sheer brand value and reputation that an IIM degree carries matters a lot to me personally and professionally.
But to experience and develop all these , spend 10-15 years till i turn into mid 30s (35-36) and then achieve a profile of my dreams is somewhat impractical to me. Experience is not just the years on paper. A team with Sachin Tendulkar ,Brian Lara,Mathew Hayden , Denis Lillee, Harold Larwood may be a dream team. But it will remain to be a dream team practically as none of the working / playing styles match with each other and can prove to be futile. Similarly 10-12 years of experience does not prove any point other than one thing - YOU HAVE WORKED FOR THAT LONG. Thats it. As Abraham Lincoln put it : "it is not the years in your life that count, but it is the life in your years that count".
Quality of experience in terms of learning outcomes, development - personally and professionally, how well the experience has served the purpose of evolving oneself into a more refined professional and as a person matters.
I am not bogged down by the fact that i am just 3 years experienced. If not 2011 it will be 2012 but i am for sure not gonna leave this.
