RSM Erasmus, Netherlands Jan2010 Applications, interviews and beyond -
30-01-2009, 10:37 AM
Hi Guys,
There is no thread for discussions related to RSM Erasmus Jan2010 intake.
The existing thread "RSM Erasmus( Netherlands) 2007 Interviews N Beyond" was very old and misleading (year 2007).
Please use this thread to continue the discussions on RSM Erasmus.

Well guys, this was my second round of interview with RSM. I had my first round of telephonic interview with Miss Maryke Steenkamp over phone. This interview lasted for 1 hour and was a gud one with many questions abt my app, why mba, why now, why RSM and so on..
Then I was advised thru email to come down to campus or to Frankfurt for a face to face (second round) interview. I opted for Frankfurt and had it yesterday with Mr. Kirt Wood, Assistant Director of Admissions and Recruiting from RSM.
It started with Mr. Wood giving me his background, his work ex and so on.. He briefed me through RSM and then explained me that he would be judging me from all angles. He told me that I might sound harsh and the other way during the interview and u have to bear with me..
It started with a very typical problem that we as indian IT males face .. Why should I take you when I have so many applicants with similar profiles from India. Here he told me that last year they had 175 applicants from India. And as my knowledge says, I think they took only 15 out of them (website info). So, he asked me why r u different and what r u gonna bring to the class.. I gave him the justifications . There was a lot of cross questioning tht took place here since he was very curious to know everything that I was talking about. He also touched upon my family background and so on.
The next question was regarding my managerial style which was not a direct one though.. I gave my personal opinion here and the ery next minute I was told that team work and all these concepts are just nonsense.. He told me do u think Bill Gates gels with all his team members..? However, I feel, I had some gud points to put across here..
He then asked me why I chose to be an IT Engineer and why not in literature or history and so on.. I gave my opinions again.. then don't u think tht 10 years down the line, China may overtake u guys and u all will be in trouble who are proud to be IT engineers from India..? I think I clarified certain things about myself but he was not convinced completely..
Then, he asked me where do i see 2 yrs after graduating from MBA pgm..? As usual, the discussion went on this as well since there was a lot of cross questioning tht took place.
Then, he asked me if I have the knowledge of history of India, Yoga and all...? We spoke on these topics for a couple of minutes.. Then, my strengths, weaknesses and he gave me some real good tips about myself ( not from RSM point of view ). He also, talked abt my views about facebook and we had a gud discussion on this as well. We also had a discussion abt the alumni and the current students and so on.. He also asked me if I would like to touch upon something additional which he had not covered. Moreover, he also told that Indians are really gud but since most of the profiles r the same, that leads to problems at times.
Overall, it ended with him again explaining me what RSM offers and how have they gone up in the rankings due to their real hard work and efforts they have put in.
In all, I would say, leave apart my admission or rejection, I personally enjoyed this talk with him. It was really informative and good. It went on for 1.5 hours in total. He has a real good knowledge about India and I enjoyed this discussion since I got valuable advice and also face to face interview with the admissions officer from a top European school. And I wish I cud attend all the face to face interviews with the other schools as well.
Now, I have to wait for a week or so for the results.. Not sure, how the things will turn out to be. Hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.

Thanks for the info Gupta, I have got an i/v call from RSM for the second week of Feb. I already have an admit from SDA Bocconi, Italy and have to soon make a decision. From what you said, RSM i/v looks pretty scary and I have doubts If I will last thru the entire i/v !

Hi Meetugupta,
Thanks for sharing your interview experience.
I have sent my application for MBA RSM and now waiting to take the GMAT to round it all up.
How well did you do in your GMAT? From interview, did you get impression that it is decisive in getting into MBA?
Many thanks.
Best regards,
Alan

No idea. They mentioned that someone from RSM will come here to conduct personal i/v in Delhi, Mumbai & Bangalore.
I got the i/v invite on Jan 20 and the i/v is scheduled for Feb 2nd week, a month later. All that effort put in to submit an early application are really wasted...
Do you think it would be better if I opted for a phone i/v at a earlier date?

Dude,
Can't say whether telephonic is better or not... because in my case, they first conducted the telephonic interview of 1 hour and then the face to face for 1.5 hrs.. So, cant say much on this.
