Hello!
Well, this may be a typical and highly ingenuous question; but it is a mighty effective one.
Had my Interview on the Karnataka (and more) Formation day @ Noon. Started some 20 mins later than scheduled. Went on for about 35 mins.
Highlights:
a. Everyone forgot about the essay - Had to go to back to submit it; fortunately the next person wasn't in until then. Topic: Banking Industry.
b. Questions -
1. Beyond whats in the applications
2. Current work profile - SAP; posed many questions
3. Why transition from the 1st to 2nd firm
4. Why MBA and allied questions including why NOT a 2 year MBA?
5. Difference between Manager and Leader?????
6. What after MBA - Short and Long term?
7. Wish to ask anything?
Two '03 and '04 Alumni and one Admissions council person. They weren't exactly nasty, but definitely with an intent to grill! All my attempts at being friendly (and even a bit humorous) were thwarted. Even wanted to ask something interesting about the campus, but decided not to considering their relatively grave faces! Instead ended up asking by when do they declare the results - 25th Nov it seems.
Frankly, I found them asking too many questions, all over the place. I matched them by answering Long, all over the place answers!!!
Nonetheless, it was an experience worth cherishing. I mean the campus was nice; pity couldn't spot any Peacocks.
I am sorry if I am a little late with these inputs. Hope it helps folks who have the rounds in the coming weekend. And not to forget, the 2nd round folks too.
Regards & G'Day!
-Anand

Hi All,
Have all the calls for R1 been sent out?
I was actually expecting a call, but dont know what to do now?
Can anybody share with me as to when do they notify the rejected candidates?
Do they give a feedback as to why did they reject an applicant?
If I apply next year will I now be considered a re-applicant?
Thanks in advance to those who reply.

==> Most of it shud have been out already as 15th is the last date for i/v
I was actually expecting a call, but dont know what to do now?
==> Don't lose heart and focus on your other apps
Can anybody share with me as to when do they notify the rejected candidates?
==> Latest by 25th Nov (when the results come out)
Do they give a feedback as to why did they reject an applicant?
==> Yes, but that shud be available only after Feb - Mar 2010
If I apply next year will I now be considered a re-applicant?

This may not be completely true...in my case there were few cross questions on the topic...so I assume they do care about the content on the topic as well....
Is there any official stand from ISB on what the purpose of this 100 word stuff is ?
mine was telephonic + Skype

Yes, you have to write a 100 word essay on topics as random as Banking Industry or Reality TV. Just write what comes to your mind...they are not testing your knowledge of the topic, they just want to cross-check your writing style.

2 ppl on Panel. Alum with a CA degree and a Lady who just kept silent, so the Q. is Alum 1. PM is "Poor Me (And you'll get to know why)" -
Q - So what do you think happened to the person earlier to you as his interview got over soon
PM - How'd I know? Maybe in maybe not
Q - Is it a good thing to come in earlier?
PM - Pleasant buddy
Q - What do you do in your job?
PM - Blah blah and more blah
Q - Keeps interjecting - "Pls explain this and that"
Now, comes the poor me part
Q - So you're doing brilliantly for yourself, why do you need an MBA
PM - Reason 1
Q - I'm sorry, I'm also a CA, you can do this with your present qualification. There is another brilliant certification that will help you. MBA wont help you
PM - Reason 1 - Rehashed again ***Wanted to scream, let it go man!!!!***
Q - Caught onto it from the first sentence, you're saying the same thing. MBA wont help you man!!!!
PM - Reason 1 - Rehashed again ***Can you believe a more dumb##s?***
Q - ***Rolls his eyes like he just wants me out of here***
Q - Gets onto Diversification and why its important in investing
PM - Blah Blah Blah
Q - Its funny that the world's most successful investor believes just the opp. You must know who I'm talking about
PM - Yes
Q - Who?
PM - (2nd reason why I'm POOR ME) ***Forgets Guru Buffet's Name (Can you believe that?)*** "The Hathaway Guy", I croak.
Q - Yes, Warren Buffet. Have you read him? He believes in Non diversity
PM - Well, that's his opinion. If I would have followed his philo. ......blabber blabber blabber
Q - "Looked convinced, but still - "If I dont want to risk why would I get into equity?"
PM - Well, blah blah blah
Q - Ok, you know whats your team size?
PM - No.
Q - Not many ppl have that kind of a team size.
PM - I dont mind having nobody reporting into me - ***Again trying to show I'm fixated with Reason 1***
Q - ***Let it go man, you are ####wed*** Any questions for me?
PM - ***Started asking a question and stopped mid sentence abruptly, finished the Question, but never heard the reply***
Q - ***Looked a lil concerned thinking I was abt to have fits***, but answered the Question, he knew I wasnt listening to
PM - Can I go back to our previous discussion?
Q - ***Let it go, man*** Yeah, sure man, do whatever!!!
PM - Reason 2 and 2a, ***looks at the lady only as I thought she can only save me***
Q - That's the reason I wanted to hear man!!
PM - *** Q, buddy, Say something, man, show something man. You are happy, sad, you're too late, better luck next time anything*** I'm sorry, always had that in mind, just didnt say it earlier.
Q - Ok, complete the essay and give it back and get out of here
PM - I hesitate, does he mean complete it now? Here?
Q2 - Dont worry, you've written enough for now, just give it ***It wont help you any, will it?***
PM - Bye, boss take care and happy life!!
My take -
I'm in if my 3rd or 4th intervention proved effective. I'm out if he thought I lacked clarity and was just too nervous!
My advice -
Just remember not to get worried if things are not going your way. He was always civil, blunt and straight with me and I appreciate that. If he would have been like Ok boss in my 1st intervention, I wouldnt ever have reached 2 and 2a reasons.
My Frank Take - Its a Ding a second time!!!!
Total interview time was 20 mins. It was like he was in FF. Looked like he had made up his mind already. DAMN!!
