Hey All,

Any reapplicants here for R2 (or even R1 for that matter) who were a little confused on what the expectations are for Essay 1? It's literally the same as last year.. and since they go through both of one's apps when reviewing.. might be worth a thought as to whether to focus on the same reasons with new information or give three new reasons..

Last year was dinged without an I/V... so I understand the dissapointment some folks in R1 maybe going through - buck up folks - I set my status last year when I got the "ding" email.. it's been there since.. you just got to roll with the punches.

Oops... a 760 did not even get an IV call? I am surprised, but did you write sincere essays last year, I know of a few people who just applied to ISB without much seriousness in essays and did not get a call but if you are here and were concerned, I dont see a reason why ISB did not bother to talk to you, given the almost 1:5 ratio in which they call people for interview... btw... did you get a feedback on why you were not considered?

Coming to the guesstimates, some puys posted some time back an interview case book from AT Kearny consulting and also columbia sample cases. Going thru that would be of great help. Search the thread.

In addition, lot of guesstimate questions have been discusses here in this thread. Just go thru them.
Thanks a lot Bharath

Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention - I applied with a lowly 650/5.5 last year.. will admit I didnt get to prep properly (1 week!).. Have strong EC, decent acads, strong recos and good essays.. got the feedback that my GMAT score just wasnt up to pool's level and that the rest of my app was good.. gave the GMAT again last month - so here we go I guess... am in that all popular IT pool..

Ok... done with my interview just an hour and half back. It was smooth and there were three members on the panel. Two alums and one from the adcom. It was very smooth.
Lady : So what is this Shishu Mandir thing that you are talking about . How are you contributing to it ?.
me : spoke about stuff on how i got in touch with them and how over the last 8 months i have been helping kids etc .....how the kids cant read proper english and how i am helping them gain that skill.
Lady : ok . So you want to be in Retail sector. Can you give an overview of why you want to what you want to do.
me : blah blah blah .... the industry ,potential and how it would be sustainable through efficient supply chains etc ...
Lady : which models work and which would not ? . What brands do you want to get associated with.
me :foreign models might not work here. Best way is to eliminate middle men , reduce costs and give to the consumers at a lesser price ....took an example of how walmarts stores operate in us and why that model might not be good here.
Alum 1 : So if having a store outside wont work , having it inside a packed city where retail costs are high makes it a lower margin business
me : took a quote from a report which says indians are individually poor but together they are rich and said if people can leverage on the scale it would be a really good business. Said back end costs need to be decreased.
Alum 1 : What are your biggest success and failures
me : spoke about some blah blah .... i thought it sounded convincing.
Adcom : how wuld u attract some one from an unorganized retail store to an organized retail store
me : product availability (choice) and quality are the differentiators.. spoke for some time and said if organized retailers can make good use of this it can be a good business
Adcom : key takeaways from ISB
me : knowledge of retail industry and a good professional network. They only asked for two and i said can i add a third one . dont remember it now.
Adcom : what are the key takeaways for your batchmate from XYZ college , who has a similar profile
me : spoke about my int experience and how it can enrich others . spoke about my collaborating style of leadership and how it can help him in various discussions etc....
adcom : do you have questions ....
me : about bidding process for electives , effects of recession.

finally , thank you and handshakes all around.

on the whole it was good .... but honestly dont know what to expect ... wait till 25th.

Sid, it was confirmed by Dr. Menon that last year's essays are not reviewed for making this year's decision and that is why Essay 5 is so important for all of us reapplicants.

Focus on what's changed in your profile. Focus on the feedback ISB gave you and what you did to better it. Basically what did you do in this one year to make yourself more attractive, or show ISB how focussed you are on an MBA from ISB.

Re: ISB class of 2011 aspirants!!! - 07-11-2009, 05:00 PM

Thanks Forbidden Apple... that's a small relief.. so we could literally just use the same essay as last year for the first one... with a few tweaks perhaps here and there..

I just got an email from ISB letting me know that we can repeat essay #1.. since the other two essays are not repeats..

Now, time to get cracking on them.. weekend's the only time I get to work on them.. and it's half gone already.. dang.
