Re: Oxford Said & Cambridge Judge MBA 2009-2010 - applicants & admits - 08-11-2009, 08:38 PM

Hi Guys,

I am a current student at Judge Business School.
Also was highly active on PG last year...

I have put my experiences in the past posts, but i see that there are a few
new queries coming up in the forum.
I shall try my best to answer you guys. and if there are more questions you can keep asking the questions and i shall try to reply all of them.

- GMAT - average GMAT score at JBS is around 680. When they say balanced GMAT score it means having a balance between work-ex and GMAT. It also means in terms of your individual split scores. For instance Indians tend to be high on Math and less on Verbal, whereas abroad its the other way round. (do not take this as a rule)

- Response to applications - Varies from person to person. The Adcom is extremely busy with the loads of applications that have come in. Even if you are rejected, you will get a reply for it. So if you havent received a reject, be patient. ASking James/Luisa will not help in speeding the process as they need to scrutinize the apps throughly.

- interviews - if possible come to cambridge (its an unforgettable experience) i couldnt make it and i regret that. You can have a telephonic interview (normally JBS does not like this, unless there are no options). I had a personal interview in Mumbai, incidentally the chair of admissions was travelling and he offered to interview me in Mumbai.

If there are more queries, please go ahead and put them forth.

I can understand the anxiety of all the applicants, i went thru the same last year.

Cheers and Wish you all the best of Luck
Abhi.

-Cheers...

Dear Abhilash,

An applicant cannot ask for more in terms of information - Inside or otherwise. I just hope that if I get through the levels which you've, then I too can help folks the way you're.
Will go through your Blog in detail soon. Meanwhile, I had a question on the TOEFL requirement. I had read somewhere that it can bypassed on writing an additional essay. Please mention if the truth is on the contrary! Secondly, if one applies in Round 3, are there any hopes of getting a decent Scholarship? Accepted that among the Intl ones, JBS actually is not too too expensive; yet, is there hope to receive Schols in Round 3 too?

Thanks in advance to your reply and a millions of those to your Blog.
Regards & G'Day!
-Anand

Hi Anand,

I am only doing my bit by helping you guys find your goals.

TOEFL - If yo have had your schooling in English and you have worked in and english speaking country (i.e. India) then you do not require a TOEFL report. Having said that it is better to see what it says on the form as i believe that JBS has changed its app form. But as untill last year TOEFL was not required if you had good english skills.

Scholarship - Majority of the scholarship deadlines are in December-January. I would recommend even if you are applying in R3, to go thru the scholarships because many scholarship applications do not require you to hold a confirmed admit. You have to substantiate it later.
You will be eligible for the Directors Bursary irrespective of when you apply. Generally these bursaries are from GBP 1000-GBP 5000.

Its nice that you find the program not that expensive considering its a one year program. But the clear advantage that i can share with all is that JBS still has loan arrangements here in UK, where as others do not.

-Cheers...

Thanks a lot Abhilash. I will work on the details, right away!
The way I see it, if TOEFL ain't mandatory for Indians, then I may as well apply for it in Round 2; which closes in about 15 days time.
And I will keep track of the Scholarships too.

If TOEFL is an issue, You can contact the adcom and get it clarified.
Last year we had a section stating reasons why we are not giving our TOEFL reports.

I could state there that i have had my education in English and also i work in an english speaking
organisation.

But since this year there is an online app rather than a doc app... i am unable to see what the exact format
is. and i dont want to create an id to enter the site and check.
