Thanks for providing those links to placement record. Just to summarise

at both JBS & SBS

- more than 25% students relied on thier network for placements
- more than 5% relied on external placement agents
- more than 5% relied on their previous employers

Somehow these facts are discomforting to me...because it adds uncertainity. Being in foreign land if you have to struggle for 3-4-5 months for job considering the fact that you have already taken good amount of loan !!

Perhaps one can use the network of others for example if i get through I intend to take help of peruvian guru and other fellow boarders for finding job for me

thnks

As long as you are able to articulate those options with your previous background then I dont see how the adcom would consider this a weakness. However, as an application strategy try to narrow those options so you can clearly present them in your essays within the word limits.

JBS-SBS' GMAT average is 690 Your advantage is that you have a Bachelors degree in Mech. Eng. and not in IT. However being Indian (you guys usually score over 700 for top schools), considering your relatively low GPA and your confidence on raising your scores I would give the GMAT another shot. Whatever the outcome your current score is quite competitive and schools will always consider your highest score.

Cheers

1. Insead
2. HEC - Paris
3. JBS
4. IMD
5. SBS
6. IESE/ESADE - not done enough research frankly....
Rankings are very subjective and should never be taken as the main/sole criteria when choosing a b-school (and investing your hard earned-loaned $$$). Your personal ranking is fine because it is a reflection of your own views and preferences regarding program length, size and composition of class, location, curriculum structure, teaching methods, electives, post MBA opportunities ans placements et al. Based on your views I can infer that you are aiming for 1YP´s; HEC Paris is a 16mp so it would still be fine but what about IESE?

I would also recommend narrowing your applications up to five schools. Once you start writing essays for each school (try to avoid full copy-paste), asking for LORs, certifying/translating transcripts and paying app. fees you will find that it is a very demanding, expensive and time consuming task.

HEC Paris and HEC Montreal (HEC Geneve and HEC Lausanne too) are independent institutions while INSEAD´s campuses in France and Singapore belong to the same school. As you stated before they only have the HEC tag in common.

I would say that HEC Paris is better known abroad than HEC Montreal so - unless clearly stated - most b-school forums will be referring to the former. Regarding FT 2008 rankings, HEC Paris is featured in the top 20 but HEC Montreal is not included in the list. I am not sure if HEC Montreal participates in the FT ranking but I know that it was ranked among the top 10 non-US b-schools in Businessweek´s 2006 rankings. I think that HEC Montreal is an excellent institution which will increase its global recognition in the near future.

Best regards

Peruvian Guru

Hi Folks,
Anyone applying in the first round for Judge/Saiid? What stage is your application in? I was targeting 1st Oct deadline for Judge....but i am no where near it. Just not been able to complete all the questions/essays in the application. So, i surely want to get the application in by Nov 19th (which is a second deadline for Round1).

I'm grinding the question dealing with "Describe yourself, strengths & weaknesses and how u utilize them, attributes you want to improve upon..."....Just stuck there, not been able to progress.....
I must have already spent abt 20 hrs (on weekends and some minutes i could grab here and then...).
How abt you ppl?? how much time have you invested so far in completing the Judge application?

Great to see a thread on JBS and SBS. Thank you all for participating.

I have researched Oxford to get a fairly good feel of what the school is like. Haven't really done the same for Judge and hope this network can address that. Apart from these, I am plan to apply to Haas and UCLA although my preference so far is Oxford.

One key question I have is the one-year time frame which is typical of Europe. I believe that the course content is on par with a 2-year programme although the latter is more suitable for career switchers. The concern is - I want to "finish" the bulk of studying in the MBA programme rather than spend time in the future filling gaps with books. From the information gathered so far, do you believe the content of Oxford's programme suffices such requirements.

Hi everybody,

Count me in as well... applying in Stage 1...
1 question to all Oxford applicants: How r u planning to finance ur education at Oxford.... I hope u all know Barclays does not easily provide a loan of more than INR 20 lacs.... and the total expense of a Oxford degree is INR 37 lacs...

Regards
