I am looking for a career in IT/General Management but not in finance as of now. Since HK is financial hub, could you throw some light on the IT/General management jobs in HK, China. yes, i know it depends alot on the current scenario, companies, my profile and so many other things, but could you give some input on IT/Gen management jobs.
Just want to know if it is really difficult to land in a good non financial job?
my profile:
work ex: 2.5 yrs IT, good companies
GMAT: 700/5.0
BE- 74%
XII - 85.6%
X - 82.4%
ECs- decent
am a bit inclined towards jobs in asia only.. hk, china.. no probs
Thanks

Hong Kong have a current drive towards IT and Technology. As such there will be a surge in opportunity. www. cyberport.hk and the Hong Kong science and Technology parks are up and running and are incubating many technology companies. In terms of General management, there are consumer goods companies who recruit in Hong Kong such as LVMH, Hong Kong is a shopper paradise so many consumer companies have offices in Hong Kong. Most jobs are focused around HK/China including the tech companies like google, microsoft, skype etc. Although not traditionally an IT Hub, the finance sector always needs IT managers, and with the initiatives of the government in trying to bring in more technology companies, its set to improve. In terms of China, there are plenty of technology companies with regional head offices setting upi and establishing there. The prerequisite for most mainland jobs is the requirement to speak Mandarin.

Well HKUST applications go on till the end of Dec... Please check the website for details... however, given the surge in applicants, i suggest you send your application as soon as possible.

Re: HKUST 2009 application process & admits - 23-11-2008, 04:50 PM

Hello everyone,

Thanks a ton for all your inputs on this thread . It surely helps everyone a ton. I have a couple of queries and I am hoping that you can clear those up for me.

I have 8 years work experience in an IT major and I work as a business development manager and I have good international experience as well in areas of application consulting , ERP and business development.

1)

I have a GMAT score of 670 .

Do I stand a competitive chance given my score and work experience.

Pls let me know if you think my profile is good compared to the peers at HKUST vis-a-vis the GMAT score and work experience.

2) Is there any facility for married couples on campus ? Can a spouse work in HongKong after getting into the country ?

3.) I do not wan to change my career track. I am looking for a senior profile in an IT major in areas of marketing , sales or strategy . How are the placements for people with my background in IT ?

4.) DO you think HKUST is a has ROI for a married couple, given that we would like to get back to India. I know this is difficult to answer. But please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks in advance

- Amol

I guess there are more than active threads of HKUST..
anyone, please post the link to the most active thread..

And how are things goin on with you guys.. 17th is the first deadline

Preeti/Togafoot
Could you please give us some tips on essays. I am really strugglin to put things in 200 words.. HKUST people are not generous with word limits..

What qualities are they lookin for in a candidate.. for example Queens and emory look for teamwork ..

any tips from you guys will be really valuable

TIA
McCoy

Hey guys..
I am applying for the 2009 intake too..
My GMAT score is rly low though..its 630
Although my extra curriculars and acads are strong..
I'll be a CA by april 09..
Got 3 yrs of articleship as work experience..1 yr in Deloitte and the other 2 in med size firms..
I wanted to know if everyone is answering the additionl info question after the essays..
Does it work against you if you don't?..I don't have any additional info that I already haven't mentioned in the earlier essays..
All the best to everyone..
Cheers,
Indrani
