April2007@ISB, All the best for the alum interview. Mine was an on-campus interview. But my friend, who got into Fuqua this year had an alum intw last year in India. And comparing his experiences with my own, i can say, there is little difference between the two.
I had visited Fuqua on Oct 2nd and participated in the school tour, a class in Accounting, and also attended my interview. I was interviewed by a second year student.
My experiences and opinions:
The interview is about YOU. They want to know you better, other than your essays. The interviewer only has your resume - so make a good job of that and prepare well what you want to say about each of the points you you have put in there. I had an interview that lasted 30 minutes.
The regular questions I was asked:
- Why MBA, why Duke? Career goals - substantiate all of these with anecdotes if possible. Needless to say, the greater the clarity, the more articulate you are, the more impressive you will be!
- Job responsibilities, achievements at work and EC activities - (sometimes a single line on a resume might have a big story behind it - the circumstances surrounding an achievement - if it is impressive, tell it to them.)
- Bouncers - irrespective of what you prepared for, there might be 1-2 questions (at max) that you will need to think on your feet and answer right there (ethical dilemma situations, ambiguous situations you have faced, opinions on some pertinet current affairs etc.) Prepare a bit for it, but rely largely on your instincts and be honest and forthright - it shows! (The interview questions list on accepted.com is a good starting point)
Other details: EA round, submitted app on Oct 15 (Reapplicant), GMAT 720 (50,36) BE, NIT Surathkal, 4 years experience till 2009. Strong acads, very strong EC throughout - including at workplace.
Cheers,
