Re: Duke Fuqua - 2009 - 14-10-2008, 08:47 PM

Hi All,

I am also planning to apply to Fuqua in Round 1.
Profile
10th: 87%
12th: 88.7%
BE: 65.6%
WorkEx: 45 months in IT on matriculation
GMAT: 710/4.0
ExtraCurr: Negligible.

Any comments from anyone on my chances of getting in?

Is there any disadvantage of applying in Round 1 instead of Early Action?

Thanks
Amit

Guys,

I am gonna apply for R1, but i am having trouble for a particular information:

1. I am looking at taking my educational iniiative international post MBA.
- Now i want to know if Duke has club in this direction?

- I know Melinda Gates is a past Duke student , but is there any alumnus here who works for a NGO or a Social cause or an alumnus who has since started a organisation or works for one along the lines i am thinking about?

- Does consulting come under such a idea? Meaning if i am a consultant for McKinsey, BAH or Goldman Sachs does any consulting work involve policy making or aid in consulting policy making?

Basically i am having trouble linking Duke with my idea, any feedback towards this is appreciated.

Thanks,
Deepak

A query about Duke Apps.

They have a section in the educational information section:

Duke requires completion of at least one college-level calculus course with a 'C' or better prior to enrollment. Have you met this requirement?

Well I am a 2003 passout and my Engg. College is VTU Belgaum affiliated. So what calculus course are these guys talking about? Anybody out there can help me?

Dude,

1. What are you giving for the degree end date? is it 8th Sem marksheet date?

2. What are you giving for the degree earned date? The one mentioned in degree certificate? Its almost 8 months dated after degree completion.

3. Could you find the university code?

4. What are you writing for future Economics course?

I am a DUKE EA applicant. Submitted my app on 15th and have got invite for Alumni intv in my town ( Minneapolis). I will be interviewing with him sometime next week.

Any tips and pointers towards Duke Alumni INtv prep. will be helpful.

Gud luck all.

Hi guys. Here comes another IT guy (3 yrs exp by the time I join, if I do ), who applied in the early round! So, did anyone, who requested for the alumni interview, was called for one? I thought Nov 1st was the deadline for the alumni interviews too!

GMAT - 700 (51, 32)/ 5.0
B.tech in Biotechnology Engineering, IIT Madras, 2006
Not so strong acads; but real strong extra-curriculars
A very steep curve in career; presently working as an IT Business Analyst with IBM.
Applying for Health Sector MBA.

April2007@ISB, All the best for the alum interview. Mine was an on-campus interview. But my friend, who got into Fuqua this year had an alum intw last year in India. And comparing his experiences with my own, i can say, there is little difference between the two.

I had visited Fuqua on Oct 2nd and participated in the school tour, a class in Accounting, and also attended my interview. I was interviewed by a second year student.

My experiences and opinions:
The interview is about YOU. They want to know you better, other than your essays. The interviewer only has your resume - so make a good job of that and prepare well what you want to say about each of the points you you have put in there. I had an interview that lasted 30 minutes.

The regular questions I was asked:
  • Why MBA, why Duke? Career goals - substantiate all of these with anecdotes if possible. Needless to say, the greater the clarity, the more articulate you are, the more impressive you will be!
  • Job responsibilities, achievements at work and EC activities - (sometimes a single line on a resume might have a big story behind it - the circumstances surrounding an achievement - if it is impressive, tell it to them.)
  • Bouncers - irrespective of what you prepared for, there might be 1-2 questions (at max) that you will need to think on your feet and answer right there (ethical dilemma situations, ambiguous situations you have faced, opinions on some pertinet current affairs etc.) Prepare a bit for it, but rely largely on your instincts and be honest and forthright - it shows! (The interview questions list on accepted.com is a good starting point)
Other details: EA round, submitted app on Oct 15 (Reapplicant), GMAT 720 (50,36) BE, NIT Surathkal, 4 years experience till 2009. Strong acads, very strong EC throughout - including at workplace.

Cheers,
dasi
