IIMC-PGPEX-III: Interview Shortlist and beyond -
04-09-2008, 12:37 AM
Hi Guys,
This new thread is for shortlisted candidates of PGPEX-III to post their profiles, interview dates, location etc... and also discussion regarding interview preparations. This thread would then be a source of shortlisted batch profiles which would be helpful for next year's aspirants.
Thanks.

The very best wishes to all of you who have hurdled the first barrier. I am from the second batch of PGPEX, and after the final term exam on the 4th, would have sufficient breather. Shoot your queries, should you have any . Cheers

Hi ash34,
thanks for offering your help.
could you please provide few interview tips as to what to focus on, do's & don'ts.
Any interesting takeaway from last years interview or your very own experience?
Whether essays have already been taken into consideration while arriving at the short-list or they will be reviewed along with personal interviews?
What weightage do essays carry vis-a-vis interview and recommendation?

Hello guys,
Admittedly, you have lots of questions and I'd attempt to give synoptic answers to those I meaningfully can. There's one rider, though. The line of quizzing largely depends on your background and it is, therefore, difficult to drill down black-and-white answers. One of you asked whether my own experience could be a broad indicator of the process. I should imagine not - I am a journalist by training and since there are very few with an arts degree at Indian MBA schools, my experience was, as I learnt later, very different from those my peers had.
Now, to the specifics. If you are from a technology or engineering discipline, please try and read up on some of the relevant contemporary issues. The crux here is to display a coherent way of thinking, the stress being on argument construction rather than on the political correctness of your position. Which means, you could take any position - and profs would typically direct you decide and not allow you the liberty of fence-sitting - but you must be able to defend your stand, logically.
Essays are starting points for a scrutiny of your personality, motivation and the sundry qualitative aspects of your abilities that the GMAT may not have been able to spotlight. Therefore, on matters that have even peripheral relevance to your essay comments must be underpinned by consistent interview responses. Presumably, profs would have read your essays when they sit down for a chat with you.
On matters that have black-and-white answers, refrain from guesses. If you do not know something, acknowledge it and try and steer the conversation to a zone of comfort. If you arrange topics syllogistically before you enter the gas chamber, you would not be caught short of breath. The strategy, therefore, is to try and steer the interview from the start, focusing on topics that you are most comfortable with.
Be prepared for abrupt topic-switching. And above all, rehearse your stock anwers to the Why MBA and Career Goals questions. The answers should be convincing, anchored in reality. And, if your schedule permits, you'd be weel-served spending some time with your math literature. IIMC is particularly quant focused, and our core courses have significant quantitative applications.
I'm sure you'd do well. Those interviewing in Calcutta could meet up with us; our classroom is housed in the main library building, and if time permits, you could take a look at the lodgings that would be home to some of you next year.
Best wishes
Ashok Bhattacharjee

Friends,
I have a list of question asked last year to PGPEX. I have copied the questions for the last year's interview thread in PGPEX. I am attaching the same for your reference. If you find some more material please add them. In fact it might be a good idea if someone can accumulate IIMA PGPX and ISB questions too. That way we will have a fair idea of what can be asked. Note that I have included the experience as well as the questions.
