Re: IIM Lucknow-Noida Campus IPMX-II : Admission process and beyond-2009-2010 -

guys
I observed 3-4 guys (almost 40%) have admit in other business school and came for IPMX interview knowing they would not join even if they will be selected.
1 guy told interesting reason - want experience because I spent 2000 rs.
so jj_cale is not alone. These people are not doing anything unethical or illegal. It might appear to us nonsensual but they have come through same competition and have full right to attend interview and reject offer even if it cost someone 1 month wait. If I will be one who had to wait, I shall blame myself for not getting selected in IIM-A.

well..let me share my interview experience too... I had mine this morning through Yahoo. The webcam thing worked only for few minutes and after that it was just voice chat. The interview started with few lines on my current job and role. Little bit about industry and specifically about Cisco's business model as I an from Telecom industry and had a recommendation from a guy at Cisco. Then question about my future goals after IPMX and why IPMX and why not schools in the US. The last question was about Mumbai terror attacks and the topic I was given to write on was also on Mumbai terror attcks.
The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes. So, now the chill out and wait until first week of January. This wiating thing is nothing new as I have waited and got dinged in the final lists of IIMA, IIMC and ISB. Hopefully this wait will turn into something good. Good Luck to all.

Re: IIM Lucknow-Noida Campus IPMX-II : Admission process and beyond-2009-2010 -

My interview debrief (not sure if anybody is left to be interviewed):
Date / Time = 16/Dec 10 am Mumbai
Summary - No challenging Q asked; i/v was ok; not really expecting anything. I repeat - iimL is still my first choice and I now know that I do not figure in their choice-list :(
[1] Essay topic = With the Indian Economy already slowing down, the terror attacks will further slow it down (or something with same meaning). 20 minutes EXACTly - I was the last one to finish the essay / case study at dot 20th minute.
[2] Interview: 3 out of 10 did not turn up. I was 6th of the 7 to be interviewed. Adcom = A; self = s; Q1= A1, Q2 = A2...
A1 = What would you like us to know about you?
s1 = You know me as <real name>, friends from college know me as <nick name>, family calls me <ghar-ka naam>
{INTERRUPTED...INTERRUPTED...INTERRUPTED}
A2 = Why "<nick name>"?
s2 = Explained. Related to my hostel life since I was 5.5 yrs young.
Moved the topic back to myself. Spoke about Family and MANCHESTER UNITED (not football).
{INTERRUPTED...INTERRUPTED...INTERRUPTED}
A3 = Why Man U? Who is at the center of Man U
s3 = Man U fan; the only football club stadium I have visited. About Man U philosophy. Alex Fergusson.
A4 = Leave out AF; wh ois at the center of Man U game?
s4 = Spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo, abt his injuries this season. Talked about Paul Scholes & his injuries. And how Man U have been impacted in the basence of these two.
Brought back topic to myself ==> Superb Career and why mgmt.
A5 = What's your idea of 'strategy', how do you fit in?
s5 = Talked abt definition of strategy and Mgmt Consulting, mentioned what I think of it, spoke of my aim and DREAM.
A6 = Example where you imparted some kind of IT Consultancy.
s6 = An example from prev company.
A7 = Abt my low grade points.
s7 = Explained decently.
A8 = get lost now.
s8 = If I may, can I ask 1 short Q. Asked a Q.
A9 = Answer to first past of my question. "Second part is not supposed to be answered in this forum".
{Second part was very relevant - something like 'Why iimL'}
s9 = Another Q.
A9 = Quick response and Thank you (for the third time).

jj_cale, other selects- pretty fine! -
16-12-2008, 10:34 PM
b/ground= Read all posts abt jj_cale and have previously requested selects to please not attend IPMX i/v.
Summary View: All SELECTS have a right to turn down (humble) requests from other aspirants. There is no doubt that NO-SELECTS are now desperate and perfectly justified in requesting (albeit asking) SELECTs to not attend i/v.
{I am not known to voice politically correct views}
Discussion:
I requested ppl not to attend IPMX i/v because a previous selection would genrally mean a strong profile PLUS i/v-controlling-ability. Some guys were over-the-board in requesting (or asking) SELECTs not to attend.
If the SELECTs turned down this plea, I'm disappointed but cannot do anything about it.
For other candidates (including self)- have no rights to call names now.
For SELECTs who attended i/v- You did nothing wrong- your prerogative after having paid the app fee.
I just hope that you will be large hearted enough to DONATE some space to other countrymen when Icome knocking on your door for issues in Social / NGO space {not ou-of-context, read on...}. Irrespective of my i/v results at B & L, I'll pursue my interest of contributing towards the social causes as Env / Poverty / Children Education etc. And more than monetory considerations, I ask people for emotional consideration PLUS allowing space to underprivileged PLUS a lot of empathy (not sympathy) -- requires large heart; giving even if your neighbour does not give; foregoing something even when you need it etc...
It's over guys, so forget it.
I'm interested in another topic- we all faced i.v across colleges, what are your opinion . impressions of college & their adcom?
{I do not like ISB - I'll tell you later why so}

I have had two interviews, A and C. I applied to B in round 2 and will be interviewed in the first week of January.
The first one was C. No problem whatsoever. We discussed my industry in great depth. Then one of the prof asked me why my gmat score is low (a little less than 700) even though I come from an IIT? Then the other one suddenly told me that he thinks I want to move to IB. I reminded them that I had not mentioned anything like this in my application. He said he firmly believes that I want to go to IB. Also, they reminded me that my salary being much higher than $100K, there is no reason for me to go for an MBA other than that I want more and so, they firmly believe that I want to move to finance. So, this is how my interview ended.. $500 that I spent on my travel went down the drain.
The other one was A. No problem again. The inerview focussed on my industry and the impact of recession on it globally and particularly in India. I explained and answered all the cross questions. Then we discussed US politics and that is it. No problem again untill I was asked if I had a question. And I asked a very direct question that might have hurt one of the interviewer. I asked them the reason for steep rise in the fee amid the slowdown. I told them that ~20L is way too much by indian standards. They started giving their reasons about brand value and salary increase and all that, but it still doesn't explain a close to $45K for a one year program in India. The two year programs in US cost in the vicinity of $100K. The schools have found a Kamdhenu and they are milking it.
My interview with L is scheduled for tomorrow. I had admission last year but couldn't go because of some family reasons. I hope they remember that
Now coming back to guys who have other admits but are still attending L interviews.. I don't know why I would like to spend my time on something that I don't want to pursue even though I spent 2000 rupees. Sounds very absurd.. It's so easy to define someone's rights. yes they had the right to attend the interviews but does it make any sense that these would be middle managers of India have so much time to kill. Even if 5 out of these 10 guys get in, 5 waitlisted candidates will have to wait untill almost end of February. This will leave only a month to arrange for finances and to move, in case someone is overseas. a difficult proposition if one also has a family to move.

^^^ Exactly for the same reason that Gabbar picked up Basanti although he was perfectly happy with the dance performance of Helen.

From the history of your comments, this one sounds as disconnected as others .. keeping your recent conduct in mind, here is my explanation..
Helen was done networking with Gabbar, Sambha and Kalia; she probably told Gabbar not to put her in the final list of the dancers

Good poetry bro but what else can one do if the other person decides to continue with an emotional rhetoric in a public forum rather than replying to a PM. Sarcasm was my last resort. Well second last in fact ...

Are you for real man ? You found that comment disconnected ?? I hate to respond in such callous language but you just stunned me with your intellectual inferiority !! It is called 'Open Competition'. Lets try and learn to pay attention to the language that all of us have agreed upon. Don't knock at me but I have got no other way left to tackle with people like you who choose to live in a bubble. Whenever a single bump or ruffle comes into the little fantasy world that you have created around your head, you imagine holding a fabricated weighing scale of morality in your hand and come screaming like a pansy chief justice.... Crab acknowledged the PM and understood where I was coming from. Respond to the PM if my reasoning hasn't penetrated into your thick brain-membrane or continue working on this tasteless advertisement of your helplessness on a public forum, but don't involve me- Choice is yours.
