Hi Dinesh,
Indeed i salute your motivation to study at 42+, needs efforts to prepare for Gmat, write SOPS, ask for Recos....and that too when u r fully engrossed in family chores and responsibilities...This attitude surely is taken in the right spirit, but u need to come out with stronger reason why u wanna do an MBA,..also remember the college needs to place you with a good salary so ur employability also plays an imp factor.. For instance i am a Retail person with 6 yrs work ex implies i have certain notions, ideas etc etc built during my job, so my chances in Retail/Marketing are much hoigher after the MBA viz a viz I trying to venture into Finance..Just some food for thought...Do share abt your work and keep writing..When is ur Gmat..?

This is the reason that being a part of such courses is an enriching experience. Guys like you bring loads of experience and if we are part of the same batch then it gives us an opportunity to learn from your experiences. As you said this would be a symbiotic relationship and would give parties on both end to exchange information and ideas of value. I am sure with your kinda exp if you manage to get even 660-670, and be able to convince the adcom about your motivation and future plans after MBA, you would be part of class of 2010. Good Luck.. and I hope to be part of the same class too.

Well, let us take my example, I am already (managing) leading a unit of 880+ ppl and have a pakage of approx 18 lac from my company. I have no issues with my company. However, I feel a need to grow out....
Thus, a reqmt of add on qualification. Yes, I agree life is the best teacher; however, some standradisation is reqd. At the same time qualification is just a "Strandadisation" and import of interview and SOP can't be over emphasised.
As far as payback period is concerned, 23+ experince(pay) has given adequate to weather that out.
With respect to 40+ age profile; it is an advantage. Since, in that bracket you have techos but ltd managerial skills. My tgt is middle-higher echelon of mgmt. Well, sharing views with 28+ ppl during PGPX will enrich me to understand them better.
Last, but not the least now my commitments to my family are plateuing and this is the time I can once again concentrate my energies to conqure one more frontier...peak...milestone.

Oh..I thought that people must have seen my profile on other threads. I am moderately active on all good one year MBA programs. Well..here is my profile again:
GMAT: 710
Work Ex: 6+ years by March 2009 (all in US)
Education: B.Tech + M.S (from US)
Industry: Telecom (working as a Team Lead in a product development company)
I have already applied to IIMC-PGPEX (interview done),IIMA-PGPX ( interview schd for Oct 12th), ISB - R1 (waiting for the shortlist), IIML - IPMX (app sent). I would probably apply to IIM Indore too once they come out with their app form. I am not applying to any US school as I hav had enough of the US..want to stick with Indian school as I want to work in India in future.
I unsuccessfully tried last year too at IIMC and IIMA..didn'tmakepast interviews. Lets see what happens this year.

Sounds intersting Crab, after MS-you want to get in a Business domain, guess that would have been the question in your interviews also..Why MBA if you have done MS..
Anyways your 6 yr exp in US is really a plus point at least for IIMA & IIMC, ISB is pretty neutral about these things...
Well our choice of colls is similar, the only fact is i dint apply to IIMA & IIMC, cos have not written my GMat yet, was on Vacation with Wifey in Jun/JUL in US, and hence missed deadlines for A& C, tried for ISB r1, but was underprepared cos of work, and after postponing the date only managed a date on 13th OCT..Lets see how do i fare. AM looking fwd to a 700, with my work ex, i should be able to get a call at 670-700.Retail professional, working as Marketing manager in a Retail Start up..

well..there have not been any questions about why MBA after MS. I guess there are quite a few applicants with US MS atleast in IT domain..so nothing special infact its a negative point in a sense that I was not eligible to apply in IIMB . But, yeah my US exp is a positive point for IIMA and may be little bit for IIMC. But, I think its just good enough to get you interview call not take you any further.. for that I have to struggle like everyone else to prove my worth.
You industry is the most positive point about your profile. Good future for retail in India and I guess management practices could be best applied in retail than anyother domain.
Good Luck for your GMAT. Anything in the vicinity of 700 would be good for you.

I would have applied to IIMB if they would let me. They are very strict about 7 years of exp requirement by Dec 31, 2008. I will have 6.5 and you would expect from institute like IIMB that they would relax these requirements for a candidate who has spent years doing higher studies, but they did not. In this respect I like IIMA, as they realize these things and work ex requirements vary for guys with bachelors, masters and Ph.d's and thats the way it shud be. Otherwise you are saying to the guy that he wasted the time spent doing his Masters or Ph.d.
To be truthful, a guy can do little to enhance his Verbal in 2-3 months. You can brush up your quants, but verbal needs lot of time. All I can say is concentrate on techniques mentioned in Princeton to identify and tackle verbal questions. And, try to cover as many practice questions as you can. Good Luck.

thecrab2000,
why not consider XLRI? I know it is not an IIM and doesn't have the advantage of IIM brand. But in the Indian industry XLRI is highly regarded and the XLRI GMP grads seem to be getting nearly as good jobs as IIMC PGPEX grads.
I am puzzled that XLRI GMP is not even in your mental map!.
Regards.

Hi Nothing,
People like Crab2000 and me who have already spent 2 years in the past doing studies after undergrad, typically strive for better Brand Names. In Indian context itself..IIM is a bigger brand than XLRI and with nearly all the IIMS,ISB in fray, one can wait and try a year or 2 later to get in a better college than make a compromise. I was thinking of XLRI( with 8 lacs as fee) for last year students, but even XLRI has riased its fee to 9.65 lacks, compared to 12 lacs at IIML, so not a great adv on Cost...anyways I am very keen on ISB and hopefully should make it,lets see what god has instore for all of us..
ATB..
