The waitlist candidates are generally confirmed around 2-3 days after the last date of paying first installment for confirmed candidates. So, based on this date, you can guess when waitlist will move.

Re: XLRI GMP - Admissions and Beyond -

Hi All,
I am planning to apply to XLRI GMP next year. I would need some help from all you people out there. Have the following questions on my mind..
1) What's the general procedure for selection in the XLRI GMP? Is it similar to MBA application process abroad? Essays, Recommendations, Interviews etc?
2) What's the rough GMAT average of the batch?
3) What are the various dates of the program? When does the course actually start?
Thanks in Advance
Gaurav

As some person who left my company 4 this course are now trying to come back on the earlier position. So is it be good tht we should wait for couple of more years (as i have just completed 5 yrs of job) and then go for this course.
so I want to know the other persons point of view tht why r they going to join this course ??..... and whether they would leave their comp or would come at study leave.
Also with study leave we can't enjoy the benefit of campus placement so ....... its difficult to decide at this juncture.

well er_jaspal i have joined SP Jain's 1 yr MBA course leaving my comfortable and assured job behind even though i had the option of availing study leave. See the situation is tough today but that does not mean that it will never improve. Moreover investment in education never goes in vain. As far as placements are concerned, people are getting placed even in these times. May be the sky high packages are not there in the market now. MBA will certainly add value to your overall profile and your understanding of the business. So i think it wont be a bad idea to do your MBA next year. By the time your placements will start (in 2011), economy would certainly have improved. At least hope so...

Here are the views on some of the most frequently asked concerns on this forum regarding GMP Program
FAQ
1. Accomodation Facilities
Ans : XLRI has provided better than expected accomodation facilities to its GMP students. Following are the features :
a. There are 4 blocks earmarked for GMP (The GMP hostel is separate and far away from BM and PMIR hotels and is within campus)
b. Blocks A and B are for family accomodation while blocks C and D are for folks who do not wish to bring their families.
c. Details of family flats :
1. There are around 48 family flats
2. Each flat is a 1 BHK flat with a single attached bathroom and a small
washing area.
3. 1 Airconditioner, 2 Cots, 2 mattresses,1 almirah (enuf space), curta-
ins, 1 study table, 1 chair, big dressing mirror (dressing table not
available), Internet connection, Intercom facility (STD can be taken
on the phone) and rack for keeping books.
4. Each floor has 6 such flats with 4 floors in each block.
5. Kitchen is bit small but manageable.
6. Hot water 24-hrs available free of cost.
7. In the current batch, family folks are paying electricity and
telephone charges( in case of local/STd calls) extra on top of the
fees.
d. Details of individual rooms :
1. Single room with attached bathroom .
2. AC, 1 Cot, Mattress, bedsheet, pillows, study table, chair, internet
connection, Intercom,Books rack , intercom etc.
3. Current batch , students in individual rooms are not supposed to
pay electricity charges (only phone charges to be paid)
4. However, they have to pay mss charges every quarter.
5. Nice newly built GMP mess between A and B block.
2. Loan Facilities
a. Loan facility is given by SBI , XLRI branch. Very convenient process
,without any collateral, loan is provided. However, not sure what SBI
will offer this year in the wake of slowdown.
b. Lot of folks have taken loans from banks in their own cities. There
are no issues as long as you are convenient. Just that the lead time
to get the draft from outside Jamshedpur banks become more.
3. Laptop
a. If it is convenient to you, you can get the laptop from your own
cities. Any latest configuration will work for you. College do not ave
any issues with the model. Dell laptops are also available in the
campus to buy, but there will be less models to chose from.Afer
sales service is given within campus who purchase from XLRI.
b. Make sure that you have enough big hard disk as we have access
to lot of movies , music and study material shared within XLRI
which you guys would like to pick up.Hence, get your hard disk
ready .
We are in the process of documenting other information for the coming batch so that standardized information is passed on across batches. Let us know any groups you guys have formed and we can join the groups tp resolve your queries.
All the best
Regards
Sunil

Sunil,
I personally visited both IIMIndore & Lucknow and I found the facilities inadequate for married students.
Thanks for your post. It is very reassuring and has saved me a trip to J'pur
Arthur: You know,it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxication in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young.
Ford Prefect: Why, what did she tell you?
Arthur: I don't know, I didn't listen

Did it come by courier or general post?
Was it same 'Blue Dart' as last time (for interview letter)?
Please confirm.

Just sharing my thoughts here, you mentioned people who quit 4 years ago and were trying to rejoin now.. im not sure what they did but if they'd done an mba 4 years ago, they would have passed out bang in the middle of boom time and landed in high flyer jobs right away. The fact that they wanted to come back, by itself doesnt really mean much.. What exactly did they do after they quit ? Where did they do it ? Are they coming back because they didnt get anything better or are they being welcomed back to the home ground, with obscenely high salaries ? Unless we know the background, its hard to let this simple fact influence a decision.
This is just like any other opportunity or call it a gamble if you want. You can choose to grab the opportunity, when it presents itself or decide to pass saying thats its risks far outweigh its rewards. So if your risk appetite doesnt allow you to quit and do an mba, well, thats what you should do - bye bye mba.

Hello Sunil,
Your posts have been very informative. I have few more queries on
# The size of the class of 2009-2010 for GMP program
# How did the placement go for your batch? It was heartening to read about the PMIR/BM folks could get placed 100% this year as well.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers

Hi,
Can any one tell me the details of the accommodation charges for GMP students who want to avail the same.
I guess these details will be mentioned in snail mail.
Need info about the flat rent, refundable amount if any and mess charges. Also, is cooking allowed in the flats or not.
Thanks in advance,
Sharad
