Re: NRI Admission to IIM - 12-11-2007, 09:25 AM

Hi All,

I am applying under the NRI quota too.
2 years in US and 700 in GMAT.
As far as the admissions go,I hear that experience and a high GMAT is what is needed for IIMs(750+).

Check this link -- IIMs go slow on foreign student admissions

However,I have talked to one of my friend at IIMC who went thru this route,to find that 700 might be ok for IIMC.
IIMA and B insist on 750+s ..
Any inputs on this?

Ideally, a combination of a high GMAT score (750+) and 2+ years of work ex is good to have. But since each of the IIMs take only 2-3 students every year, its really hard to quantify exactly what it takes to get in. At the end of the day, its no easier than sitting in India and giving the CAT. I've heard someone getting in to IIM-C with 700 or so GMAT score, but I suppose your SOP and Reco's must count for quite a bit as well.

I'm a long shot myself, since I'll only have 1 year upon matriculation. I'm just hoping that work ex is not the be all and end all of the admission process.

I never heard of any IIM taking more than 3 NRI/Overseas applicants. I'm surprised and a little more hopeful now, if IIM - C takes more than just 2 or 3.

I sent them an email.
  • SOP : They said I could send one if I should so choose. Not required and not even sure if they will actually consider or place any weight on it.
  • Copies of all relevant marksheets/transcripts should be sent
  • All relevant courses taken in college
Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is the selection process for IIM B

http://www.iimb.ernet.in/iimb/docs/PGPSelection2008.pdf

Minimum of 85 percentile in all sections and the same applies to candidates through GMAT route as well.

For IIMK,

The candidates seeking admission under NRI quota should produce with the application a certificate from the Indian Embassy/High Commission/Consulate of the country where the candidate is currently based, stating that the candidate has been resident in that country continuously for a period of not less than 18 months as on December 31, 2007.

How do we go about getting this certificate ?

The whole restriction with residing outside of India and getting that form etc.. is only for NRIs right? Or does it apply to Overseas Citizens as well?
