NRI Admission to IIM

Okay... so after mailing about admissions, I received a reply from IIMB "pgpadmissions" saying that results will be out by mid March. Also, I received another email personally from the admissions incharge of IIMB who said that the results will be intimated to me by the first or second week of April.

IIM B has said they will not be running an interview process and will be directly admitting students into their program. This means they will be taking in between 5 - 10 students (since not everyone getting an offer will join) out of 60-80 (subject to change) who apply each year.

I wish you good luck with IIMC . I am in the process of absorbing the fact that its over this year for me. Over confidence perhaps ruined my chances this year. Hope to perform better next year . Now I am only looking at +ve aspect that i got calls from glakes and ISB

I finished my IIM A interview on the 8th of March at the IIFT campus in Delhi. There were three panels, with 10 students in each. There was one overseas applicant for each panel, and we were all the last to be interviewed. It was quite a long wait.

The interview itself was very relaxed. It was a pleasant and relaxed conversation. One of the interviewers asked me a lot about my firm and its structure, while the second was flipping through my certificates and the third was listening. I was asked briefly why I wanted to come back to India. They asked me my favorite subjects (luckily programming and basic engineering courses were not listed) otherwise I probably would have been grilled on them. I was asked a fairly simple calculus question, about maxima/minima. We then discussed domestic politics briefly and the US primaries and that was all.

It probably lasted 15 mins. Most interviews that day were between 15 and 20 minutes. The interviewers did not seem keen on asking a lot of questions or grilling me as such. No point reading much into it as I guess we'll find out on the 11th of April how well it really went.

I have IIM C this Thursday, on the 13th here in Mumbai.

Sandipan, thanks for posting your interview experience. It seems like a tough one to read too much into given they spent very little time in the interview. Past experiences described in the pagalguy forums led me to believe that the interview would be far more intense and challenging. Perhaps they are softening their stance and moving towards a more personality/behavioral type interview.

I wish you all the best for IIM A. (There is a little self interest here - your admission there would hopefully create a space in IIM B or C for the rest of us!) Do post your interview experience for the next big one - Calcutta. You're Bengali I'm assuming so this should hold special significance for you!

I do not blame you one bit. Sending out mixed messages like this does not befit an institution such as IIM B. Perhaps what is needed here is for all of us to ask the same question and then collate the responses. I suspect this would take the form of a normal distribution and we could guess at the most likely date. Views?

I called IIMB. They said that they'll let us know by end of March to first week of April. They are just all over the place! So... the gist is... hopefully, we should know something by mid-April.

Same here. Phoned IIMB and they said results expected by the end of March to beginning of April. I have heard that CAT candidate results will be announced on April 11th so that seems to be about the maximum we will have to wait.

IIMK - Result will be out mid to late March. No decision has been made on interview schedule yet.

IIML - Will update the website with the result around late March. Interviews (if any - yes they havnt decided yet!) to be scheduled around 2nd week of April.

Hi All,

I may perhaps be one of those most lazy ones who got up from a long sleep to apply to IIMs now. By the time I got to know, I had missed the deadlines of most of the IIMs. So I managed to apply to IIM B only in the NRI quota. Well to introduce you all, here is my portfolio:

GMAT: 680
Total Exp (IT): 5.5 years
International (USA):3 years
Class XII: 88.6% (CBSE)
Class X: 89% (CBSE)
BE: 7.8/10 (CPI)
Current Job Organization: Nike Inc (The "Just Do IT" company)

When I saw the profiles of most of you here, I found that my chances of getting into IIMs are bleak, as you guys have a superb GMAT score (ahh!! Verbal dumped me man). Anyways I am also planning to apply to INSEAD and NUS so lets see which one do I get this year.

What do you guys have to say about my chances in these colleges including IIM?

PS: I am an optimist anyways, so I dont mind if someone gives a frank opinion. (May be negative??)
