Re: NRI Admission to IIM - 28-02-2008, 08:22 AM

Does anyone know what a "GMAT Score Card" is ?
Is it the same pdf or should we be requesting something different ?

My application form for IIM Lucknow is stuck at customs ..
2 more days for the deadline... any ideas what to do ????

On a brighter side, I got an interview call from SP Jain..

Cheers,
skoogle

Skoogle, your GMAT score card is the pdf that GMAC (or Persons or whoever runs the exam) sent you. They also probably mailed you a printed copy of your GMAT score. I just made a copy of that letter, that had my score on it, and sent it.

Sorry that your application is stuck at Customs. I'm surprised it's there though. Keep checking the tracking number, if its just a bunch of documents, there is no reason for them to hold it up. Hopefully it will get to AdCom in time and Congrats on IIM-L.

Also I called up IIM Calcutta and found out that Overseas Applicants are not sent a form. That's only for the CAT applicants. So that's one less thing to expect in the mail.

I have faced that custom thing before. I will suggest that first you send another application by courier immediately and let IIML know about it.

Secondly, contact your bank and tell them to stop payment for the cashier check that you sent in earlier application. They will refund you most of the amount.

Also, if you have tracking number then call your courier company or USPS and claim the amount that you have lost because of all this.

Thanks a lot for all the support.
I had sent the USPS on Feb 14th and it is still stuck with customs.
Considering the effectiveness of our customs (it is stuck from February 21st and they are documents only), I made a wise decision to FEDEX the documents on February 25th and they reached Lucknow today. I need to now cancel my old DD and shall inform Lucknow not to consider
my old DD, if it makes through the customs.

The thing that was however mind boggling was that when I called up customs in India, each of them started accusing the other and asked me to contact another number. I ended making 5 calls but of no use.

I am putting the number for customs in Delhi for any future "customs stuck aspirants" reference - 011911123233325. Also, advise not to send the documents through USPS but always FEDEX.

The IIMI spoil sport of moving the interview date to March 20th from March 18th has made me pay 5000 rupees more already.

Re: NRI Admission to IIM - 29-02-2008, 05:17 PM

Hi..
Just wanted to share my IIM A experience..Hope it helps others as well..

I dont remember the exact sequence of questions.. but some of the questions were like
a) Do you get angry ? what makes you angry ? what do you do when you angry ? and lastly,do you think being angry helps in any way ? (The last question was asked after I have answered all the prev. questions.. it was more like a trick question cos for all the prev. questions, i was answering as if I dont really like getting angry and suddenly i had to change tracks as well as not deviate too much from earlier answers .. This is a hindsight!!)
b) Since, I am a jain, I was asked a few questions on jainism as well..
c) Was asked about Demand elasticity.. i changed the focus of the question to Price Sensitivity and how this elasticity affects my products demand..

The panel was pretty much meandering.. probing a bit.. relaxed at the same time.. it was not a stress interview.. (At least I didnt feel any stress)..
However.. The one thing that did irritate me a bit was that I was sitting with 4 IITians, 1 guy from Lehmann Bros, another had 5 yrs of work ex, and two were REC Toppers.. so it did feel a bit intimidating to be in such "August" company.. however ..chatting up , joking abt kinda helped me..
I was more bothered abt my competition than my own plan.. dont let that happen to you ... focus and enjoy the pressure..

Cheers
Rascal..
Next stop IIMC interview..

Thanks for the post and I wish you all the best. I'm sure it must be a relief to have one interview done with. Do you know if the Overseas candidates are also informed along with the CAT applicants about the status of their candidacy on April 11th?

BTW, I'm surprised they didn't ask you any questions relating to the fact that you were an Overseas applicant. Do you think your interview was similar to what the others in your group had? I've heard otherwise about the IIM C interviews.

Anyway, when do you interview with IIM-C and in which location? Best of luck with that as well!

Re: NRI Admission to IIM - 01-03-2008, 12:48 AM

@ Sandipan..
honestly, i really didnt care if they treated me differently or not.. i was pretty prepared to be treated "differently".. but I am glad that i was not.. i have always maintained that at IIMA, there is no distinction between merits..
some people say that GMAT is a backdoor entry.. i am fine with the being in the top 1% percentile of 6 lakh kids across the entire globe as against being in the top 0.1% of 2 lakh kids across India.. it works out the same..and i think IIM A understands this...so post-GMAT/CAT , kids are treated just the same...
As for IIMC interview, I have no idea.. I am sure that they would have certain parameters..
I was told by my IIMC mentor, that the interview is chilled out..rest after that is panel-dependant and panelist-dependant..

No, I dont know about when/how the results are out..will keep all of us posted when I do..

btw.. no one has posted their interview experiences so far.. was i the first one ?...

Sandipan..just be yourself.. that is one singular advise that almost everyone who has gotten in has dished out.,.. cos if you are not, they will catch you...
relax..

Cheers
Rascal

Thanks Sandipan. I am still confused though.
IIMI asks me to bring GMAT Score Card (original)
Should I carry a printout of the Official Score Card - Test Taker copy (the pdf)?
I opted for viewing my score online and hence didn't get any postal mail from GMAC with my score. Is there something that I should do ???

Yes, I believe a print out of the pdf you received by e-mail should suffice. If I'm not mistaken, the letter in the mail was actually identical to the email sent to me. So don't worry about it.
