I am a prospective applicant and had submitted my application to Ivey a month back. I have recieved a call for interview.

Surprisingly, my first interview is with the Career management committee member (I reasd somewhere that the 1st interview is uaully with a adcom member).
In case anyone can post the interview experience or can shed some light as to how I can prepare for the interview it would be really great. My interview is scheduled day after tommorrow over the phone.

BTW, any idea how many people who are interviewed make it to the program..??

Regards,
Anubhav
Congratulations on your interview call Anubav.

It’s not unusual to get a call from the career management team first. Nothing to worry about this.

The theme of the CM interview would be to identify whether the candidate is place’able post-MBA. Research thoroughly on what you stated as career goals in essays and ensure consistency. Do make sure to connect your past/current experiences and post-MBA goals (immediate/long term), using Ivey specific experiences as bridges building the gaps.

I’ve not much idea about the number of candidates selected from those interviewed. But I do understand that good Bschools don’t have defined percentages to select/reject candidates after interview rounds. Simply, if one could prove to the school that he is of “the best fit” kind and "diverse", he should survive.

Hope this helps.
Good luck on your interviews.

Arul,
I understand that approximately 50% of the class gets some sort of aid(averaging around CAD$10,000). I don't have a waiver/scholarship aid until now. I'm planning to take a Rs.20 Lakh loan from India(this is the maximum amount) and have my Parents sponsor me for the rest.

A note of caution: It's nearly impossible for an international student to obtain a loan from Canada, unless he holds a permanent residentship status. Ivey recommends international students to arange for the required funds, from their own countries.

Arun,

How much amount are you showing on your account except the loan amount? DO you have any idea of how much more should some one show if he is accompanied by a partner ?

Can you tell me whether the Costs shown by ivey in their offer letter includes the cost of academic study tours or project related out of country visits ? Otherwise we will also have to make the provisions for the travel costs to be incurred during study ?

The activity in the forum has dropped now.. it seems the interviews for the first round are over now.. hope 2 see some more poeple in the final ivey group...
meanwhile, do you know any current ivey student who can just supplement his views here in this forum.. i think that would be really great for us//

Hi Jainesh and other friends

Good morning to all!!

Jainesh: it really depends. I submitted my application on the last day of R1 and got a call within 7 days, however, my interview took around more than a month to be scheduled. So there is no fixed time for getting calls. Guess they are just concluding the R1 applicants right now after which they would shrotlist R2.

Guys, I had my first interview with Career Services manager, Karen Conway yesterday. This was my second scheduled date since on the first occassion, the telephone networks, kept the connection from getting through. Yesterday too, the same thing happened even though I had given a different number this time. Eventually, I had to call the office on my own just to ensure that the inetrview takes place this time. The interview lasted around 30 minutes and went good.

She was very friendly and asked me questions about my goals, preferred area of work post MBA. Then there was a lengthy discusion about my career progression till date and focussed on how I could trafer skills from my prior experience into my proposed career. There wer 1-2 situation specific questions as well.

Overall it was good. She said they would get back to me for the admission round. Let's wait and watch and ofcorse pray.

Cheers to all

)

JD

Re: Ivey Mba - 19-10-2008, 08:08 PM

Hi All,
Few queries about Ivey.

  • Is there a difference in the number of students admitted in May and September?
  • If I submit my application before next deadline (i.e. Nov6), will I be considered for May intake?
  • I am starting to pen down Ivey essays. I am unable to understand the motive of the third essay (field reporter). What is expected and what is it that the adcom wants to know about me through this essay? (people who got an Ivey admit, please help me on this one)
Would highly appreciate responses.

Thanks
na

Hi Satya,

Whilst am unable to comment on the proof of funds requirement yet, I do understand that one has to show an additional $12000(per person), to be able to cover the cost of living expenses, travel etc. I would probably start researching on the VISA more actively, as soon as I get my loan sanctioned (most banks recommended loan applicants to submit their papers no earlier than 4 months before the programme commences).

http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/MBA/finances/expenses.htm does not include the cost of optional trips (study trips, career networking trips, etc). For example, the China Study Trip would need an additional CAD 3000.

I could not find a current Ivey student in PG, yet. Perhaps, Ivey facebook page is the right forum we could post in additional quesitons. There has been a lot of activity out there.
