This thread is meant for those of you who are interested in pursing a
1-yr course, and want to know more about XLRI GMP program. I and my
colleagues will do our best to answer your queries. Let me give a short background on this program. The GMP program was started more than 5 years back, as a requirement was felt to train managers from Tata Steel Ltd. Until 3 years back, this was a purely company sponsored program. 3 years ago, it was opened to self sponsored candidates via GMAT & XAT.

Features of the program:
1. 1-yr full time residential program.
2. Dual speciliazation offered. Electives are - Finance, Operations
Management, Marketing, Information Systems, HR, Economics/Strategic
Management
3. XLRI brand name!!
4. LATERAL PLACEMENT OFFERED FOR LAST 3 YEARS. LAST YEAR AVERAGE SALARY WAS INR 17.8 LAKHS
5. Amazing batch diversity - work exp from 5 yrs to 20 yrs. Excellent peer learning - levels above the normal courses
6. A very cost effective course. Total package for year 2008-09, including fees, hostel, international immersion program etc - 8 Lks.

The application criteria for our batch was a minimum work ex of 5 years.

Batch profile for GMP’08-09

Average GMAT score 690.77
1. Average Work Ex 7.37 years
2. Average age 29.63 years
3. Average International Exposure 18.56 months
So, feel free to shoot any questions.
Can u please tell how many international offers were made to GMP batch of 2008 ? is GMP worth gunning for after 7-8 years of hardcore (programming) IT work experience and especially if one is targeting to go overseas ?

Hi

I want clarifications on below mentined.

1. When does the application procedure for this 1 yr PGDBM start.

2. what is easier to score - GMAT or XAT ? ( ofcource GDPI later )

3. I want to apply for 2009-10 session,so by which month I should have my GMAT scores' ready. Do they ask for GMAT scores at the time of application or interview, if I take GMAT.

I am currently preraring for CAT'08 & have 8.5 years of work exp in retail & BPO.

Thanks
Alok

@maverick_ravi
I would think sometimes around December 2008 when the next year' admission starts.

@vikramnms
What information are you looking for?
If you joined ur first company in jan 2006, you would be eligible for GMP earliest by 2011 batch, going by 5 yrs exp criterian.

@aloksaha01
1. The admission typically starts Nov onwards with applications being received till mid Jan. Interview follow next and typically are conducted in February at four different locations.
2. Can't comment on that as I took GMAT only. My reason for GMAT was that it offers me more options even if I didnt get through XLRI. But if you are preparing for CAT, the XAT would be on similar lines.
And please note, GMAT or XAT is just one of the criterian for selection. Your work experience and quality of it has more weightage.
3. GMAT scores are asked at time of application. So you should complete that last by Nov 2008 for 09-10 session.

My two cents on GMAT preparation.
1. Focus on Official guide as much as you can.
2. take GMATPREP exams as many times as time permits( uninstall/reinstall)
3. Join some forum like test magic/gmatclub for motivation and peer learning.

I hope above tips will help you all.

So, feel free to shoot any questions.

First of all, it is really nice to have a student explaining us the realities of xlri gmp program…hats of to u Dayanand…in fact it is very much needed since these courses are not usually as popular as the 2 yr courses...
My profile : 7 yrs exp by march next yr ..3.5 yrs in aerospace(PSU) and 3.5 yrs in automobile industry (Auto OEM MNC)…throughout in sourcing..
Gmat score : 700 / 6
First query…likelihood of getting a call from xlri..what other factors do they consider...is there as essay that we have to write or something...
Second query…application process and deadlines…the website of xlri is not clear…they still have the 2007-08 admission brochure and not the later ones…so what would be the deadline for application and when does the course typically start…I am targetting to get in the year 2009…
Third query…with regard to placements…how good is the institute for getting into consulting firms..i am targetting to get there…and how is the course rated in comparison with its 2 yr course…
Will be very glad to see a response from u on the above...hope i am not taking too much of ur time...
